Bakery in gay wedding cake case sends anti-gay movie to LGBTQ groups

Why is it hard to understand? The couple received constant harassment and death threats because the bakery decided to release their personal contact information online. I'd say the bakery got off easy.

I think Two Words meant that as $135k for refusing to bake the cake. For example I had only a brief knowledge of this story and didn't know about the bakery releasing their details and the subsequent harassment - which is where I'm assuming the real reason the $135k damages request has come from

Let it go, goofball bakery. Didn't you ever heard of "15 minutes of fame"? You had yours. Go back into obscurity now.

Some asshat on my Facebook feed linked the YouTube of this movie the other day. I actually watched the first 20 minutes or so out of curiosity. It was awful.

I demand a Lionel Mandrake review of this new christian flick!

Shame on you for jumping on this poor bakery.

Cakes. Gift Cards?! That sounds like a sweet deal. Worst case scenario, they can return Audacity to Wal-Mart and exchange it for a copy of Con Air.

Sounds like free cake, a funny movie to watch, and some gift cards. What's wrong here exactly? Probably swimming in cash from their crowdfunded bigotry, might as well spread the wealth around.

Hate the sin, love the sinner and all that, I geddit.

Tough sell telling people you love them but hate that they love other people in ways you don't believe they should love them though.

It's just bullshit they say to feel better about themselves anyway. Anyone can be an arsehole to others, but it takes a special kind of person to be sanctimonious about it.

The bakery owner didn't "dox" them in this case. They put up the DOJ complaint (public record) which contained the complainants' home address on Facebook (for around half a day) to a total of 17 Facebook friends. The media, unsurprisingly, took interest in the case after scouring court records for interesting stories. The DOJ emailed the complaint en masse to many media outlets as a result of growing interest.

Naturally, the media requested interviews from the owners of the bakery, and these requests were accepted. As a result, the judge concluded that the owner was liable for comments (death threats, emotional distress) made by outside individuals for keeping the story in the media, which I found to be a bit bizarre. I don't know how common it is to hold the defendants accountable for the actions of outside parties towards the plaintiffs by accepting media requests for interviews.

I was made to attend church all my childhood. Which is why I know the bible says hate the sin, not the sinner.

The more you know, and all that jazz...

And how exactly have I contradicted this? Furthermore, this sort of vicarious placement of hate is laughable. All the mental gymnastics in the world doesnt erase the fact that you admit scripture is promoting hate for something benign.

"I don't hate them for being gay. I hate the fact that they're allowed to be gay, and together and happy."

See, televator? It's totally different.

No it's not.

I worship the all-loving deity that's going to make you burn in hell.

Sincerely,

Christians

The bible says you should kill witches, and gays, and atheists. The more you know...

The funny thing is that as Christians, there is nothing in the new testament that says being gay is not only a sin, but a grave sin the God hates. Same goes for all the other bs that supposed devout Christians use to spit hate to other groups. When it's beneficial, always go to the technically superseded old testament to back up ones bigoted views.

No it doesn't man. And there's no need to be smart. Tele said the bible hates you, or something to that effect. I was merely saying it doesn't. If you want to consider me a bible thumper because I have some basic knowledge of it then fine.

Dude. You said the bible hates you. All I said is that's wrong.

I wasn't going to post this but since this thread is going in this direction I'll leave a quote from George Carlin.

You might want to inform all the Christian hate groups and free-range bigots about this.

Haha! They already know it. They just don't care.

The bible doesn't hate gay people? That's kind of news to me.

Separating gay 'actions' from gay people is the dumbest kind of mental gymnastic move.

No guy, the bible is a book. It can't feel emotions.
Y'all are hanging way too heavily on what I said. I agree the bakery people are shit human beings. But ffs the bible does not say to hate people! That's a fact! That is all I'm saying. Do we understand?

That would be news to all the conservative politicians and almost half of Americans.

News to radicals. Yes. All? No. People screw up the message of the bible. Just like they do with the quaran. That doesn't mean it actually says to hate people. Or to kill people.

I don't even know where people get this shit from. Its like they watch the news and see these radical groups and just assume that they are correctly following scripture. They aren't.

People can interpret the scriptures anyway they want. You don't have authority over what is the "correct" interpretation of the bible.

Dear The Gays,

God loves you. He loves you so much that if you do anything gay he will throw you into an eternal pit of fire to be tortured for all time.

No hate here at all. He loves you! It's just that he's going to torture you forever for no reason except that you're gay. So maybe try not to be so gay?

Love you!

Love,

The Bible

I have a lot of Christian friends who say the same thing. That basically Jesus wants you love your neighbor and not judge and turn the other cheek and assholes are warping it to fit their own bigotry. Christians are great...unless they are of that type that preaches hate that isn't supposed to exist in their religion.

Well, this is cringeworthy ¬_¬

They're probably getting it from the fact that the bible, or any religious text, can literally be interpreted in countless ways - and because there's no evidence to support the claims of ANY such interpretation, they're all equally as valid as the rest.

Love thy neighbor as thyself
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you
Judge not lest ye be judged

Seems clear cut. Also seems opposite to what extremists say and do.

The bible says all sins are equally yolked. People have decided homosexuality is somehow worse than other sins. I disagree. But no one cares. The fact that I argue someones knowledge of the bible is wrong means I'm a zealot apparently.
