It's 9.99 on the ios app store, Should I bite? Thats kind of expensive for a card game.
I have 3 months of Apple Arcade from when I bought my new iPad. There is a Balatro+ apple arcade version. I assume it's the same game.

The game didn't click with me yet I love Poker and Roguelites. I feel like I'm missing out.
This game is Roguelite? I guess indie devs love to make Roguelites, because that’s all I see from majority of indie games these days.

Either is Roguelite or Souls-like or even both.

lol you're not wrong. I hate the Souls-like bukkake we've been getting the past few years. However, I crave more Roguelites. A well done Roguelite with a good gameplay loop means hours upon hours of playtime. Lotta bang for your buck. They're not for everyone, and I understand the fatigue and criticisms, but I can't get enough personally.

That's like $21M in 10 months including the 30% store cut...
That's like 2.1M a month
That's like 500K a week for 42 weeks

(before taxes)

EDIT : I wonder what is the Apple Arcade payout + what's his angle ? evergreen title or go for the Xbox/PSN sub money ?

I’m huge fan of FROM games but fucking hate of Souls-like games (I hate that fucking word) and I have no interest in Roguelites…..this my biggest reason why I don’t care for majority of indie games these days.

The game deserves these sales.

It’s a good game, but not a Goty contender for me.
Some indy games are better for me this year (Animal Well and Lorelei).

Perfect game for the phone.
I just downloaded it and it makes me play in landscape mode. Thats not good. I'll have to check and see if it has options to hold it 'normally'.
Landscape mode games might as well have to use a backbone to play.
edit-it doesn't look like it, It's landscape mode only. More chances to drop the phone during play. :(

Rogue-lite/likes's ability to retain players is one of the highest in the industry and that's important for game visibility in trending algorithms.
It's also easy to produce & popular viewing content for YTbers/Streamers which feeds the algo even further. Binding of Isaac is three years old by now, but it's still big enough to support an eco-system of YTbers like Sinvicta, who can score 30k+ views daily (that's like ~300$ in adsense money).

Want to make money, make a rogue-like and call it "Hentai Simulator Dragon Shooter with Cats and Dungeons". Maybe drop the H to reach a larger audience.

You mean holding the phone length ways? Why would that make the phone more dropable?

Try some of the indie Kings Field like games then. They’re way better than indie souls likes.

I'm not sure if he is going to. Me and Danjin44 Danjin44 have went back and forth about this discussion for ages on GAF. Sometimes I wonder if he feels only one developer should be allowed to make games for the subgenre they started, which would end up in an unsustainably small and stunted videogame industry.

His loss. Lunacid is fantastic and I doubt FromSoft ever goes back to making 1st person dungeon crawlers.

"To help balance weights you may use the middle stick at your advantage"

Maybe it's my old decrepit hands but I prefer to play one finger controlled games in portrait mode. Anything that requires multiple buttons, sticks, in landscape.
I think the game screen would be too small held normally. You need to rearrange you cards and jokers often.

Pro tip if you do get the game turn the game speed up to max.

Bought it and still haven't ever spelled it correctly. Can you develop dyslexia in your 40s?

Played it a bit, kind of fun. Will play it more over Christmas when I'm away from my 4090.

Theres a lot more to it than meets the eye. Some of the runs you can go on are insane and highly satisfying.

Think im about half way through the decks.

Anyone who's done the no joker run deserves a chufty badge

Not really that has more to do with the fact I personally don’t like real time combat in first person.

That's fair, my previous post's point was more in terms of you not accepting nor trusting other devs to handle the soulslike genre. You have told me before that you feel only From Software's efforts are worth playing.

It just none of them were as satisfying as FROM’s Souls games and for my taste as long as they continue make one I don’t need other devs “Souls-like”.

And this will remain a wild take to me, but it is what it is, we will continue to agree to disagree on it.

There are lot people say they getting sick of Souls games but I don’t feel the same way because I don’t play every Souls-like game that comes out, I mostly play FROM’s souls games and I’m more than satisfied with that.

If they ever stopped making one then I will look for alternative but for now I’m more than happy with FROM.
