Resident Evil 4 Remake has sold over 9 million units worldwide

How so? The remake of the first has worse level design (expands the worst parts of the original), obnoxious unkillable nuisance, flat presentation (sound design is especially phoned in), convoluted body burning mechanic (with punishment for not doing the extra inventory management), slower and less responsive controls. The only improvement is graphics fidelity and despite that animations look worse overall. Why would I want to trudge through that mess when I can have fun doing a run of the definitive version of the original?
Adding content = Bad
Removing content = Good

We've been through this before... Bro please. Get a mental check up.

Oh I know, but they have showed time and time again that they will drop the price even lower so what's the rush?🤷‍♂️ It's not like the backlog is empty for me.

I hear that. Wonder if they'll go as low as Village and do $15 for the base game, maybe in another couple years. Or maybe throw it in as part of those RE bundles.

I waited out Dead Space remake. Grabbed it on its first flash sale (on Xbox at the time) for under $10. Same as Immortals of Aveum, Wild Hearts, and NFS Unbound. All under $10. I think I grabbed RE2 remake and RE3 remake for somewhere around $10 (maybe a couple bucks higher) so that's what I'm waiting for.

Hard disagree. Worst remake after Resident Evil (2002). The mechanics suck, the structure is too linear, the requests feel like chores, the game greatly overstays its welcome, and its presentation is much worse than original. Not only is gun drawing slow and aiming unsteady but the knife parry mechanics are inconsistent and melee is weak with enemies that have absurd bullet tolerance at the better tuned difficulties (not to mention adaptive difficulty shenanigans).

It made some improvements in level design but in the grand scheme of things it either toed the line or screwed up everywhere else.
I'm not so vehement in about 4R's shortcomings, but I do agree. For me it's mostly about the gameplay mechanics, and I recently said the same things you said about aiming (the worst bit is how it zooms in), melee, and enemies. I also don't like how slow and out of control it feels to move around. The original was tight and responsive despite tank controls.

If you follow 4R's development back to 2R you can see where they kept that base but lost the balance thanks to the fast enemies.

Overall I think the original is the better game, and not just for the core gameplay mechanics.

I also agree that the original RE is better than REmake. Again, I don't think it's terrible, but I do have more fun in OG. I enjoy what it is, but OG is just better IMO. I love OG audio, that's always part of classic RE for me.

3 is the worst remake for me. Took a shit all over the original and didn't add nearly enough to justify it. A rushed disappointment. But I still had fun with it for what it was as a game.

I strongly disagree about RE3 and its remake as I consider the original RE3 the cuckoo (made of RE2 leftovers) that took the place of the legitimate successor in Code Veronica. As far as the remake is concerned, I am more than happy that it discards all the filler that made the original and creates a bonafide action game out of its premise. I understand that people who are fond of the original feel betrayed because it is an unfaithful recreation, but I do not subscribe to that line of thought.

The demo area was like you expect RE to be, letting you explore multiple paths like 3 did. I was very much looking forward to a full game of that. But it quickly and too frequently became a series of corridors after that. Then Nemesis became a dog - a clone of Birkin stage 4 doing zoomies like an excited puppy. Then we got RE4 cabin for some reason. Then we go to a copy paste of the lab from 2R because why have a unique area when you can not do that? Speaking of copy paste, that leads into dog Nemesis part 2. Don't get me started on replays of the intro and its 2-5 seconds of player control between its infinite cutscenes.

Yes, it's unfaithful, but a game can be unfaithful and still be a good game on its own merits as long as it doesn't disrespect the original. I don't prefer 2R to the original, but I think it's a fantastic game. 3R cut out what people wanted and replaced them with copy pastes from other games. 3 created one of the most unique and fearsome monsters of the franchise if not all of of gaming, but 3R made him pathetic. The lore also doesn't make sense, with dates and times being impossible. It reeks of a game that needed more time and care with more solid direction.

Carlos sections are great (cabin aside). Gameplay is fun. And as I said in the OT at the time, I got my money's worth from the game. But I really do think they messed up by rushing it and not giving it the full treatment and throwing away the potential. I also think that Capcom learned from that mistake going into 4R, although that made its own new mistakes (I brought it back around). Let's see how 5R does.

And please don't mention CV, it makes me sad that they're probably not going to remake it.

What was this thread about again?

Deserves even more. Amazing game.

Though I do hope Capcom tones down the remakes after the inevitable CV one, and focuses only on new stories for a while. Would gladly take a new Revelations game as well.

I warmed up to it overall but still don't get how they thought that lumbering sack of potatos game feel was a good change. The original may feel stiff but it also feels precise and accurate and much more enjoyable moment-to-moment because of it to me. Remake feels extremely loose and sluggish to me even after tweaking sens settings many times.

It's hard for me to wrap my head around why a special forces Gigachad moves and sounds like an asthmatic smoker with pneumonia. "Uhh ugh ahhh arrr.... ugh uuhh ugh". Shut the fuck up, jesus.

That being said, I'm a sucker for the juicy gore and also really like some of the changes in terms of art direction and aesthetics. There's a lot to like.

How is the game on PSVR2?
No regrets sums it up nicely!

It's a lot of fun to shooty bang bang the villagers, dogs and bosses. And even though I've seen a lot of the assets on PC through free camera or extracting and opening in Blender, it's not the same as looking at and inspecting them in VR. The only complaints I have are that it's only the main game (no Separate Ways) and that the environment isn't as interactable as the VR version of the OG RE4 on Quest.

If you already have a PSVR2 it's a no brainer.

Their REmakes have all been great. I hope they do a Code Veronica remake. Ive never played the original.
Not sure if I want one. Consider CVX & Z bottom of the barrel. Would much prefer an over the shoulder style ReRemake of the RE1 Remake.

Thanks! Say no more!

Well deserved and is the actual best game of 2023.

Although I had more fun with RE2 Remake and RE3 Remake but RE4 Remake is still extremely fun.

Bring on RECV Remake!
