Baldur's Gate III | OT | Bear in Mind, Your Choices Have Consequences

I'm confused because Shadowhunter spells seem to be all over the place. I don't remember using spell A, spell is prepared and I can't seem to use it.

Am I missing something? Being at low health, for example, makes you unable to use spells?
Shadowhunter ? You mean ShadowHeart ?

Some character/class get some special spells that you don't need to prepare and have access all the time to them.
Some might be usable only 1 per short or long rest, or some might have special condition of activation or even special ressources associate to the class (Ki for Monk, Channel Divinity charges for Cleric etc...)

Also if you're wearing an armor class (light, medium, heavy) you're not proficient with, it will make you unable to cast spells. (But if you speak about Shadow HEart, it shouldn't be the case since, if I remember well, she's proficient with Heavy armor)

You could also just lack the spell slot required to cast it.

Yeah, I wanted to meant Shadowheart :messenger_tears_of_joy:.

I'm gonna screenshot it later today and post here what the game throws at me and unables me to cast the spell.

I'm pretty sure I must be missing something.

For example this one. Says always prepared and I can't cast it.

It's because you don't have the spell slot available. (You can see it at the bottom of the spell you highlighted. The level 1 spell slot is red with a warning triangle.)

Most of major spells needs a spell slot to be cast. A lvl 1 spell use a lvl1 spell slot. A lvl 2, a lvl 2 etc...

Now you have used all your spell slot (I can see it because they are all grey instead of blue, they are the little square above your spell box at the bottom of the screen)
Currently you have 4 Lvl1 spell slots and 3 lvl 2. But all are used (you casted 4 lvl 1 spells et 3 lvl 2 spells).

They refill on rest (but can't remember if it's on short rest or only on long rest).

You basically get charges to cast spell. You can't cast them again and again without rest..

Only cantrip or ritual can be cast without using a Spell slot.

See? Told you I was being dumb 🤣

Got it now. Thanks man!

I summoned the ogres during the Hag fight, killed the hag and then the ogres proceed to kill mayrina.

I'm not even mad, joke was on me.

Sorry Little One GIF

Having an issue with saving suddenly the past couple of days. Anyone run into this?

This is driving me crazy because it just happed, yesterday and hasn't stopped. Every time I try to save it says failed reason 804. I have tried everything suggested online, Things I have tried

  • Verifying Game Files
  • The Trade/Barter Trick
  • Installing and Reinstalling
  • Deleting Older Saves
Anyone have any ideas? Thank you

Are you using mods? Also, I know they are about to drop their latest update and are making some kind of community stress test.

But you may also have a corrupted save - did you try starting a new game?

Fucking finally. I've putting off starting my final playthrough until this patch landed because I use quite a few mods and didn't want to risk an in-progress save getting corrupted/unplayable.

I never got around to playing this from the backlog as it seemed quite a comitment time wise.

Are the new classes recommended for a first playthrough?

Oh, new patch already dropped? I was planning to do my 2nd full playthrough with it and an updated mod list.

I'm playing for nearly 60 hours and I'm on the verge of entering to Act 3. But man. This game's dice system is rigged to hell. Even with karmic dice on, and I rolled back difficulty to the easiest, the dice rolls are driving me crazy.

This not just about RNG. I believe it has to do with game design. In every fight, I mean EVERY, my characters constantly rolling 1-2-3-4-5. I stopped counting of critical failiure dice rolls. Often missing above %80 hit chances. %40-50 hit chances? 9 out of 10 times miss. On the other hand for example blind, lower ground etc. enemies hitting me all the time. It seems the disadvanteges don't apply to enemies. Yes by some miracle they can miss sometimes or disadvantages apply to them but these times are rare.

I actually very much like the overall story (besides some pushed woke elements, so unnecessary) and waiting what's gonna happen on Act 3. But I really hate when the game cheats. My actual play time is on 50 hours. That means nearly 10 hours spent save scumming. Mental :messenger_expressionless:

Karmic dice is a terrible mechanic and should be avoided as far as I'm concerned. Didn't really have any issues without it other than the occasional bout of bad luck. It felt pretty good actually.

I bought this just as it released and had to play it via nvidia streaming (as I got it while away). It has been my "play while I'm away" game as it now has a native Mac client (so I can use my work laptop).

It's 2 years since release - I've just started Act 3. Maybe this year will be the year I complete BG3 - who knows...

(I'm about 70-80 hours in, although a lot of that is re-doing fights etc)

Your first mistake.

EDIT - On top of karmic dice being a bad idea in general, you should also keep in mind that the system is not designed for a comfortable "RELIANCE on the RNG". You are not supposed to roll the dice, close your eyes and cross the fingers.
Like with XCOM, you are supposed to minimize the impact of randomness, not lean into it.
That means to pile up bonuses, proficiencies and items to make it so that your "chances to roll a failure" will get slimmer and slimmer over time (i.e. Having an advantage on top of a high proficiency means that your chances to fail go from 1 in 20 to 1 in 400).

Are you paying attention to what your characters are good at (read: "high proficiency bonus")? Are you building [and dressing] them up to stockpile the benefits and minimize the bad outcomes?

Normally I don't rely randomness on anything. So yeah, I'm trying to improve my chances with related bonuses not relying just on RNG. I'm also blind running so I don't look any guide or anything unless I'm really stuck in some situation. I have a huge charisma and I try to minimize fighting situations as much as possible. Also for example I use Asterion on chests so nearly all the time I open without problems. Similar to other situational requirements as well. My problem is combat.

When the fighting is inevitable, I face the dice rolls of 1-2-3-4-5 nearly %70-80 of the time. My team -with seemingly good gear- even missed shots with AC10 weak enemies . That is why I'm saying the game's dice rolls are somewhat rigged. Yes it can happen sometimes sure, but when it happens majority of the time it is not about RNG. I'm saying this because I'm checking the combat log and without the bonuses, majority of my dice rolls getting 1 to 5 values in d20 die. That is why with all of the bonuses to eliminate RNG I still can't even reach necessary thresholds.

I'll turn off karmic dice and play rest of the game like that. Let's see if my dice rolls are improving or getting to a level that my buffs will eliminate the RNG results in combat.
