This is a curious case isn't it? Banjo moves like a cartoon bear with a bird in a backpack. Their moves and traversal make sense.

Did Miyamoto ever explain why his plumber is able to side somersault, triple jump flip and wall jump?

Same way Nathan Drake and a couple hundred of other dudes can get shot multiple times and completely recover in seconds by crouching behind a wall, I guess.
Also, bears don't wear backpacks, and breegulls can't hold bears while flying, nor carry one on their back and run without getting crushed to death.
