Banjo-Threeie Debut Trailer!

Am I the only one who dislikes the vehicle idea?

Didn't like the art style to begin with. After watching this trailer I can finally say I won't be buying this game.

Yeah the art style doesn't seem to grab my attention. Looks sort of meh if you ask me. I'll still be getting the game though.

I'm pretty disappointed that the emphasis for this is in vehicles. Will it still have platforming elements of the previous Banjo Kazooie titles? If not, should I just stick to Kameo?

Nope. I don't like it at all. I just wanted a platforming game.

Hmm, when I see it in motion I'm actually a bit less exited than I was before. Gameplaywise it looks a little "wonky" + too much action. Graphically it doesn't look THAT hot either.

As the B3 haters are in this thread, can we keep the people happy with the trailer in the other thread, and the haters in this thread? :P

Sadly, no. Everyone seems to hate it. I think it looks fantastic, but I've never played any Banjo game before. Did everyone just want another platformer?

I didn't see this yet.

I don't like the art and where the fuck is my platforming game? Oh Rare....

I will be just fine with VP2 I guess.

Wow, so 90% driving/flying and 10% platforming?

My hype is now almost nonexistent. I want to give the game the benefit of the doubt, but it's RARE--they haven't exactly been lighting the world on fire in the last 5 years.

Hate the Banjo Kazooie designs, everything else looks great.

It's sorta cool how the vehicle building justifies the Rare collectathon BS...
But a collectathon is a collectathon is a collectathon!
THEY'RE BORING!

This looks like a whining convention.

EVERYBODY says the game looks fun, yet you all just want an HD Banjo 1 to jump around in. This is reason why games don't evolve. First, people complain that they change the game too little, but when they do a massive shift, they do too much. All previews are glowing. Banjo has returned in a great way and all you all are thinking is about how you can't spin jump to get notes. That's sad.

As someone who loved, adored and still plays Banjo Kazooie as well as eagerly awaited a triumphant next-gen return, I'm crying both internally and externally.

What have you done Rare....what have you done?!

RARE!!!!!!!!!!

I don't really like the idea of vehicles because it doesn't really remind me of Banjo Kazooie. Maybe it will turn out to be very good but right now I'll keep my judgment.

No, you're not. Take a look inside the Microsoft Gamer day thread.

There was zero platforming in that video, and if I didn't know any better, I'd think it was a spin-off game. The Yoshi-Story-inspired aesthetic in some of the environments are hideous but are also the only environments shown in the video which resemble the old BK. Oh well. What can we do?

Wow, that's very strange looking.

Visuals are both impressive yet disappointing. The textures are great (expected from Rare), but everything else feels jerky. It looks more impressive than Ratchet and Clank ToD in some aspects, but the overall impact of the game in motion is underwhelming.

It doesn't really seem like a platformer, though.

Okay, what the fuck did I just watch?

In some minor aspects, yeah. Overall ToD looks way better, especially with 60fps.

You guys are crazy. All of the elements that populated the past Banjo-Kazooie games are clearly there.

-Flying in plane instead of flying with Kazooie or transforming into a flying animal.
-Using a four-wheeled vehicle to bash instead of transforming into a four-legged animal to bash.
-Using a water vehicle instead of turning into an aquatic animal or swimming
-Carrying objects, shooting things, special sections involving racing or a sport, it's all there.

The vehicles are just the transformations from the old games evolved. Why do you think MUMBO'S HUT is the place where you customize the vehicles?

And whether the whole formula ultimately works or not, the game at least looks astounding. Absolutely popping with bright colors, interesting textures, and fanciful character and art design, it already stands as a jaw-dropping showpiece for HDTVs. Even Banjo's fuzzy fur impresses, and the environments never take the easy way out: Nutty Acres features a giant LCD screen as a sky-blue backdrop, with sheet-metal clouds hanging in front and what looks like a stitched grass quilt stretching over the landscape.

Well, it certainly is colorful.

"Just another platformer?" You act like the market is overrun with them when the reality is, the genre is damn near dead.

This is no excuse. There hasn't been a decent platformer this gen (with the exception of Ratchet and Mario), and I don't think there's a single one on 360 IIRC. I would have loved an HD Banjo game.

... ... ... I'm torn.

I like Banjo Kazooie. I think its awesome. But the whole part with all the vehicles and blowing up stuff, that look's pretty generic. I was more excited with the few seonds of platforming then the rest of the trailer. *sigh* I'll just wait then till the game comes out I guess...

And what the hell with the 8-bit Mario stuff :lol

Another platformer was going to get overlooked but this concept is a huge breath of fresh air. Day 1 for me. Loved legos as a kid, cant wait for this.

Seriously, would anyone have expected fans to react positively if say, Mario went 9 or 10 years without a sequel and then, finally, we see his awesome return in....Lego Mario Racing! Yay!

No.

Greg Mayles, father of Banjo series is in charge here, same goes for the rest of the team.

i for one thank them for moving on from a fucking tired 8 year old mechanic.

I think it looked pretty cool actually! I didn't really go crazy on the landvehicles, cars and such, but flying and waterstuff looked fun. And at least the trailer gives them a reason to label Banjo 3 a "real Mario killer".

Also, two more things:

What's up with the sexual intendo in this game? Words like "nuts" and "bolts" are repeated all the time.

And people must stop using the name "Banjo-Threeie". Not only does it SOUND stupid its also stupid and stupid.

The platforming is gone because they do not want to go head to head with Mario Galaxy. Oh and beheading mario just reeks of "hey look how cool we are".

The music was fucking horrid, had to turn the sound off on that in the first 10 seconds.

I'm not so sure about it. I think people want games to evolve, just as seen with Super Mario Galaxy, they just don't want a completely different game. But the vehicles make it look like kind of a racing or shooting game. In my opinion that idea can be compared the FLUDD in Super Mario Sunshine, it meant an immense change for the franchise.

Have my babies Rare.
Apparently the Freezeezy Peak snowman is in the trailer, but I can't find it.
EDIT- He's driving up it you idiot

What's been the reaction to the game outside of Rare so far?

Mayles: People have grasped it a lot quicker than we thought. We thought there might be some kind of, 'This isn't Banjo any more, what's going on?' But this hasn't proved to be the case. People can see what we've done and how we're trying to approach the platform genre in a slightly different way.

The traditional Banjo game was like, 'here's a character, we'll give you some moves but they're fixed abilities, and you use those fixed abilities to try and discover the solution to a designed problem.'

[In the new game] we're giving you a load of abilities, and you're able to combine those abilities however you feel will solve the problem. So rather than it being a case of trying to find the designer's way of doing it, maybe you can find your own way of doing it. I guess that, in a nutshell, is really what the game is, just having the freedom of trying to find your own way of doing things rather than what we tell you.

How do you think the Banjo hardcore will react to the changes?

Mayles: I think the generation of players that have played Banjo before are probably going to be shocked to start with. They're probably going to look at it and say, 'Hang on a sec, this isn't the Banjo I was expecting. What have you done? You've ruined it!'

But then hopefully, in a very short space of time, they'll be able to see what we've done and like it. You're never going to be able to change people's opinions of the old games and how they felt at the time. Obviously you're going to get a certain amount of rose-tinted glasses looking back on the old game being this wonderful masterpiece and nothing was ever wrong with it.

That's pretty much what I wanted to say to that comment. Besides Ratchet and Mario there are no decent platformers so I would love to see some quality.

Instead we get this vehicle game with Banjo slapped onto it.

That trailer was the definition of bad taste. Ironing out the framerate could help a ton.

Icebeezy working overtime. lol, calling the detractors "sad" is definitely a case of throwing stones in a glass house.

you say that as if we get more than one good platformer every two years.
