Banjo-Threeie Debut Trailer!

ah i get it now.

so the real complaint isn't that it doesn't look fun or interesting, it's that this shouldn't have used Banjo but some new character.

Hm. I wish it was just a straightforward platformer with some vehicle elements. I think the vehicles are too much of a focus personally, at least from what I've gathered while reading and watching the trailer.

Well the video didn't show it...saw lots of racing and vehicle construction.
There was racing in the original Banjo games.

Just because a vehicle is moving around does not mean it is "racing" anything.

It's not a matter of old mechanics being gone, it's about them playing second fiddle to a host of new mechanics that no one has any interest in. I mean imagine if this is what Mario Galaxy was. Mario builds a bunch of vehicles to drive all over a huge landscape and solve vaguely-platform-themed vehicle challenges. Oh and occasionally he'll do some jumping on his own I guess.

This really does look like Ratchet and Clank, or Jak II. The similarities, in this admittedly brief trailer, are undeniable. And regardless of whether or not there is still some traditional platforming, the clear FOCUS is on this new shit.

THIS "NEW SHIT" IS THE EXACT SAME THING AS THE OLD BANJO GAMES.

The "new mechanic" is the fact that you CUSTOMIZE the transformations now. That's it.

Ah, GAF--when did this become a board where any dissenting opinion is met with insults, namecalling, and criticism?

Why must every game trailer be universally admired and loved? If people are disappointed, let them be disappointed. Some of you people feel like you must defend every damn game company from negativity.

Go for it guys. Come November, I'm going to be posting the ifuckingcalledit.gif and all haters will be eating crow.

:lol

Who's going to be listening? Everyone will be playing GoW 2 and Resistance 2 by that time.

Oh dear, how awful.

I suppose that I shouldn't be overly disappointed, considering all the signs have been there to indicate Rare is simply not the same company from a decade ago... but, try as I might, I'm still pretty bummed.

Evilore made a really great group think thread about this last year I believe.

that was quite a bad trailer--the music was tedious and seemd to be totally out of place, there were tons of framerate issues, and the driving looked really slow-paced. this looks pretty early.

This vehicle gimmick is so disappointing.

And as for the beheading of Mario in the trailer... Like I said in the other thread..

It's a pretty ballsy thing to do coming from a studio that hasn't made anything relevant in over 8 years.

There is as much "platforming" in this game as in the old Banjo Kazooie games.

WTF are you saying. You understand by yourself that this isn't true at all. Vehicles were not in the various levels. They were not an essetnial part of the puzzle-notes-jonjos-research.

This.

If they come through, then great. If not...

How the hell do you know its a gimmick without having played the game to see how it fits in with the rest of whats there?

Fuck me... people are so quick to judge.

I'm not sure we watched the same trailer. Maybe you need to go watch it again.

Vehicles = flight pads, shoes, animal transformations. EXACT. SAME. THING.

I've watched it. Flying with Kazooie and shooting eggs at things is now helicopters and planes shooting at things. Detaching Kazooie from Banjo's backback is now smaller vehicles or getting out of the vehicles themselves.

*Conker: Live & Reloaded releases*
"WTF! Make a new game!!"

*BK: Nuts & Bolts releases*
"WTF! Remake old game!"

what? when Conker was coming out, I wanted them to remake the old games multiplayer and not replace it with the garbage they did.

looks like shit actually. sorry for being blunt. looks like they're going for this platforming kart racing, crazy all round thingy and failing in all of them. and visually doesnt look impressive either.

The thing about Conker is if they didn't fuck up multiplayer I don't think anyone would have really cared.

Except flight pads give you control over your character and you aren't some unwieldy massive plane.

Shoes um, just make your character run faster.

Shoes = car? Get out.

Microsoft can't do anything right it seems. You fuckers bitch your asses off about Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey being a classic gen experience in HD, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Halo 3 being more of the same, etc. and here comes Rare trying to evolve their franchise... and what happens? You guys bitch.

I think the new Banjo model is pretty ugly.

The new banjo model is awesome.

With the new found squareness you can land small planes on his nose. Think of the possibilities!

You should really be posting less and reading more, but then, that is what makes GAF what it is, isn't it? The one with the loudest, most dramatic opinion wins.

That Mario vehicle you saw "beheaded" was made by a game tester demonstrating the game. He made it from vehicle parts available in the game.

Did you even PLAY the old banjo games? The transformations were basically more severe Mario powerups. None of them actually involved DRIVING. You are vastly underestimating the difference between hopping around as a dishwasher and actually driving. A fast moving vehicle requires levels that are huge, open, and conducive to DRIVING. Levels like what we've seen in the trailer. Cars are not platforming devices. They are transportation. Nothing in this trailer indicates otherwise.

And EVEN IF THEY WERE IDENTICAL to the old transformations, those were never an EMPHASIS in the old games. You used them for maybe one or two jiggies per level. This new stuff, though, hardly looks as isolated.

Here's what I think: the fun part of the Banjo games was exploring the environment and having an incentive behind it. In the old game that required scurrying up every tree in a level scouring for notes. In this one, that involves driving a big truck you made over a cliff, jumping out, and hitting up the smaller areas on foot.

Now instead of what you collect allowing you to just progress to the next portion of the game you're able to build these ridiculous contraptions that help you explore the environment further.

Sounds good to me.

Those crying out for something identical to the previous games need to go back and play them, because the pure platforming aspects aren't enough to make a game like this phenomenal.

I would wager that most of the people bitching about the game hasn't read anything. They just looked at the poor quality video of gamevideos and started thinking of nostalgia.

This is a much better video to get a feel of the game.
