Baten Kaitos 2

Hadn't seen this was announced. I know the news is on Gamefront, and the IGN Gamecube board is reporting it was mentioned in famitsu. Any images/scans?

Dude, use the damn search feature. Second thread like this from you in like 20 minutes.

Forgive me oh model of perfect posting. The first page hasn't changed much since last night, I figured it hadn't been posted. Apologies.

edit: Thank you Santacruzer!

This is good news for cube owners starving of RPGs.

I'm really surprised this game is getting a sequel. It sold terribly.....even in Japan, which I thought was astounding. I never picked up the original. The PAL version is still available in Australia. Is it worth it? Can you turn off the voice overs?

Ahh that reminds me, I still haven't completed the original version.

It's a decent game and the battle system is quite unique but in the end it also becomes the game's downfall with the randomness of it all.

Seems like it's a whole new cast of characters this time around. The main character still reminds me of Kalas though with his green hair. Looks like we'll be visiting some familiar locales though because in the pic that Santa posted, first picture at the top of the page is of Elnath Castle in Diadem. It'll be interesting to see how it ties into the first game.

I'm not crazy about the wacky character design of the first, but I'm currently enjoying the game. And what are the odds it will come out in the US? That would probably be no earlier than a spring '06 release. If they want to make it a long-running series, they should release it here near the release of the Revolution and/or Twilight Princess.

It's a prequel according to IGN.

Baten Kaitos 2 takes place 20 years prior to the start of the original. You play as Sagi, a member of the empire's "Elite" force of fighters. Sagi heads off on a quest to determine the nature of a mysterious change that's appearing in the world.

With Baten Kaitos 2 taking place in the same world as the original, you might expect to see the original's cast of characters return -- and you'd be right. Gibari returns as a 14-year-old. Savyna is just 5 in Baten Kaitos 2! Also known to return are Geldoblame (25) and Ladekahn (12).

The cast also has some newbies aside from Sagi. The game's heroine is Miri, a friend of Sagi who joins you from the start of your adventure. Also joining in on the fun is Giro, a strange doll who comes into the picture mid way through the adventure.

Gameplay will feature a return of the card-based Magnus battle system. Details have yet to be revealed, but with Baten Kaitos 2 due for Japanese release in December, we doubt we'll have to wait too long to see more. Stay tuned!

Heh, I wonder if Emperor Geldoblame will still be ugly and fat in his 20's.

I wonder if he'll be as gay as he was in the original. I still remember walking into his room and thinking aloud to myself, "WTF?!" :lol

A prequel sounds good though. It'll be interesting to see how everyone came to power and the whole deal with
Giacomo,Georg, and Geldoblame
came to happen. The magnus battle system worked well in the first but I wonder if they'll change at all for this prequel. Maybe some permanent health cards that don't rot away mid-battle or other such changes. Also, hire a new voice director please.

Direct feeds... thanks for the link...
I don't like the main character design (and some cards look uglier, but that's just nitpicking). The game looks beautiful, I just hope the battles are quicker...

I need to finish BK before my friend wants it back...

Battles better be quicker in the sequel. The original game moved at a snails pace, mostly because of the card-battle system. While unique and involved, the fighting system is slow.

I just watched the video... WOW! Looks great! The battle animations are incredible cool but I can't really tell if the battles are in fact faster (but I hoping for it).

Wow! Comparatively speaking to the first one, this one looks to be much improved. A lot of the gripes I had with the first seemed to be alleviated; the battle's DEFINITELY seem faster, and plus there's multiple enemy hits too. I like the individual damage counter too. The music sounds great (Sakuraba?) and it seems more cinematic in areas, using the in-game engine (near the end-wise.)

Good job Namco. Keep the improvements coming, and you got a kick-ass franchise on your hands.
