Wasn't the Adentures of Batman for the Genesis made by Treasure? I vividly remember GameFan gushing in a few previews about the games quality, that Treasure was behind its development.

Ofcourse the difficulty was another matter. Jesus Christ was it ever hard. What was it...something like 3 lives with only one continue through out the godamn game? Something like that anyways.

The game had the Genny doing some pretty dramatic effects that were done in software. There was some sort of scaling technique where when you flew over Gotham in the Bat Jet the city below moved with some scaling engine built around it. It was pretty neat to see the Genny do that for its time. But anyone who beat the game deserves a pat on the back and a round on the house, that bastard was mega hard.

I remember there being a good Batman game for Game Gear (and maybe Master System too?). You had three different boomerangs to choose between (with different attack power depending on their range), and also a special attack where you called for the batmobile. I recall the music being kind of cool as well.

Rockstar needs to jump in and show how a REAL Batman game should be done. Them or Konami should start making them again.

That's funny, 'cause these screens made me think of Max Payne 2 for some reason. I think Remedy could do a great Batman game, they handled the rainy, dark city noir style in MP2 excellent and a Batman game made like that would be perfect.

All right, it's list time.

Trivia: the producer of Catwoman made Cauldron (C64)!
One of my favourite C64 games too :P

Spectrum48:
Batman
Batman the caped crusader
Batman the movie

Anyway, I rather liked Batman the Movie on Amiga, mostly for the driving sequences.
And the first Batman on Spectrum was also a good game (one of those isometric 3d adventures), never played the other two though.

Am i the only one who thinks Batman would make a great Spiderman 2 (the movie game) clone? Especially the 'begins' universe with the batmobile that can jump across rooftops.

It'd be perpetual darkness for the batman sections, then small day time sections where you play as bruce wayne, just to advance the story and maybe take part in a few billionaire playboy activites like street racing and fight clubs.

At night you patrol gotham, on foot, in the batmobile, or maybe the batplane (probably an unlockable extra) looking for random crime. When you find it you have options for (like the previews for this game suggests) intimidating foes to scare them off crime in the future and raise your profile (maybe even using classic batman tricks like making your shadow appear over the back of them so they turn around terrified just intime to see your fist hit their face), or pushing them for information (might reveal hidden extras, mob hideouts etc where you can go and clean house) or simply kicking ass. And then after a while (or checkpoints like spiderman) the bat signal would go up which would denote a story mission. Which would be pretty much what the actual game seems to be.

As batman your appearence would change durin the course of the game, you'd go from just a guy in a ballaclava who no criminal would be affraid of (so they wouldnt even bother trying to shoot you, they'd always try and go hand to hand) to the movie outfitted batman who'd strike fear into the heart of all but the toughest of outlaws (so they'd keep their distance and make it harder for you to get to them and take them out).

Yeah i think it'd kick ass. Theres so many gameplay features you could drag out of batmans array of technology (trackers, the grapling hook, the wings etc etc etc)

Come on, just add an orange lightning effect on Batman!

And who is developing this title? Warner Bros? I can't remember any Time Warner developed games this generation...

Despite Batman's weak record with videogames, there's always a chance that this will be good. I mean there wasn't really a great X-Men title until Legends, so perhaps this will be the change. At least, I hope so..

BTW, what platforms is this thing on?

No, you're not. I wasted a great deal of time (again, in the shower) thinking about this very same concept last night. Batman cruises Gotham City at night by foot, grapple, or vehicle, thwarting minor street crimes while investigating a mystery or stopping a major villain to fulfill the mission objectives. It'd work.

Skip the Bruce Wayne gameplay segments, though. Nobody buys a superhero game to play as the civilian alter-ego, they want to play AS THE HERO. See the lame "Banner" sneaking missions from HULK as proof.

It was made by a developer called Clockwork Tortoise, which based on Moby Games information seems to be the only game they ever made. Agreed with what you said though...the game was just amazing visually, save for the sprites being ultra small. Again if you want to see all the levels, there's an easy to use level skip code that I think works in game, thus acting as a "continue" of sorts.

Like I said, anyone interested in this game should read the Game Informer preview. You might be surprised. I know I was.
