Battlefield 2's flaws.

Saw Ror's say that you can't get planes/Heli's on Single player, but you can Create a Local Server, that opens up the regular 32 player map, and though it'll say "waiting for 1 other person to join before starting game" in the middle, you can do anything you want, and there's no timer as "game hasn't started."

ASM is stupid about spawning, lolz
Hmmm, must have to manually pull up the spawn screen then because it does not pop up if a tank blasts you like when you are waiting for a medic. Guess I'll have to map the Enter key to my NFiddyTwo.

I press z as soon as I spawn so I don't get shot by random bullets. I don't spawn where no enemies are so I can get straight to the action.

I don't bother with planes or helicopters because it is no fun with keyboard and mouse, the ground combat is fun enough as is. The only time I will get in a helicopter or plane is if someone else is flying.

Tanks rock, the armored transport that fits five guys sucks. You never have the chance to shoot from the sides. There should be five top mounted machine guns. Plus, the side machine guns don't have infinite ammo, whats up with that?

Right...and if there are no blue dots, then fire away. No blue dots means no allies.

im agreeing with you. just making the distinction. the way you wrote it made it sound like enemies just appear on radar regularly. they dont.

If the server menu still sucks with the retail version just use the All Seeing Eye (google it). It should support BF2 soon enough.

My biggest complaint is they still havent done anything about nimrods using the aircraft as their own personal taxi's to go grief the enemy main base. Ive seen idiots take a whole Black Hawk, not pick anyone up and crash the sucker just so he can parachute on top of the MEC silo. I'd love Dice to implement a pilot class in a patch one of these days, where if you enter the driver seat of a jet or chopper your kit automatically gets switched to "Pilot" until you spawn again. You get equipped with a knife, a pistol, a smoke grenade and maybe a granola bar. Nothing else. That would put an end to this shit.

Other than that I think this is going to be the best multi-player shooter up to this point in videogame history. Cant wait to see what the modders come up with.

this was done on forgotten hope.the only class who got parachutes were the pilots, but they only got a little pistol

My computer can't even run the demo well enough to get to the first splash screen, but I did have a question...

Did they fix the god-awful hit detection from BF1942? You know, how you have to lead somebody by about five feet even at point blank range in order to hit them, or how you can appear to hit a tank (you see the shell hit the other model), but the game doesn't register it as a hit. That, along with the extreme stupidity of most players, is what really drove me nuts in BF1942, and I can't see myself bothering to upgrade if they STILL haven't fixed that.

Hit detection seems a lot better. I'm actually able to pick people off long range with regular rifles.

There's still a slight delay when the hit detection (especially when I nail someone with a launched grenade, it hits, then a second later they're airborne), but it's improved ten-fold over 1942.

Uhm...the uniforms, skin color, and faces are completely different. The only ones that look kinda the same are snipers and even then you should be able to tell the difference. Also, people gotta learn not to be too trigger happy. :P

They all look similiar to me. Same desert camo, just a slightly different shade. I don't have time to see their face if its a close encounter suddenly. That's where it's a problem, you turn the corner and you see someone and you have to pause to see if a blue or red name pops up, a blue or red dot, or anything and by then you're dead.

Last night I was on some server where I kept getting teamkill penalties when I shot enemy foes. I don't knwo what the hell that was about.

And what the hell is Punk Buster? I get randomly disconnected by PB authentication timeout errors.

Going with your little blue vs red debacle etoilate, sometimes your allies get marked as red.

Is that a glitch?

I dispatched an ally with a red name and got charged a teamkill. Has this happened to anyone else, or am I losing it?

Maybe it was the same thing I had. I was shooting red enemies and getting TK penalties. But I remember seeing someone I shot down on the other side's left after the round was over.

Here's the thing, everyone has the same problem. So its not like its a balance issue, its how good your team is at recognizing and reacting to the enemy. Either adjust to it and think quicker before you shoot or start racking up the TK's. It sucks being on the other end of it but I dont mind the game requiring a little bit of forethought in the middle of all the running and gunning.

Personally I got pretty good at picking up the opposing uni during ground combat in the demo, afterawhile its just second nature. The only time when Id pick up TK's (or team damage) was flying a chopper, its harder to tell whos driving what vehicle with all the jacking going on. I wish the red marker would pop up quicker.

That's not exactly supporting it. You can't use AA or aniso and you can't change any other settings.

Well you can use that shortcut command and force AA and AF in your control panel. But yeah it sucks that LCD native rez isn't considered an option.

I just think it would be a better experience with more defined differences. I just hate TKing somebody.

Don't know how BF2 does it, but in BF42, it wasn't allies=blue, enemies=red, but Allied=blue, Axis=red.

If BF2 is the same way, then a red-marked player will only be an enemy if you're on the blue side.

when you go to a space that is occupied by the enemy, how do you get your flag raised?

Once you're within the capture radius of a flag (again, I've only played BF42...), the flag will turn neutral (grey) after a short time. At this point, neither team can spawn there. If all of the players in that radius on a certain team are killed (or god forbid, just wander off instead of trying to cap the point), then the area will be captured after a few seconds. I've read that in BF2, more teammates in an area will speed up the capturing process, but I'm guessing you still have to eliminate the other team's players in the area.

On another note, what's the cheapest video card that could run this game at a reasonable framerate on a 1.5ghz machine with 512MB of RAM? I'm not looking to upgrade past playing BF2, as there's absolutely nothing else on the PC gaming horizon (except maybe Supreme Commander) that interests me, so money is definitely an object...

Yep, the 'red teammates' issue is a glitch as far as I know, and a lot of people have been getting hit by it. Your enemy should always be red, and your allies should always be blue or green (indicating a member of your squad).

I got retail version, but it seems this issue still remaining...
This is why I got banned for 3 times..... :lol
This issue should be fixed very soon....

YES! There was a sniper in my game last night on my team. I'd look at him one minute and the color would be blue. Later, it would change to red. I killed him once.

Must be a common bug.

I guess you didn't read my whole post as I said you can go into an empty server. :(

Yeah. Tanks are VERY fast at capturing a point.

As for graphics cards, I'm using a 6600GT, with athlon 64 3400 and 1GB, and running 1280x960, models etc on high, textures on medium and lighting/shadowing off or low. no AA. And it runs great.

I've also tried it at lower res with AA and it also looks good. 1.5GHz processor is slow, but its quite a scalable engine.

As long as you have more people at the flag, you can defend/capture. If you go there and try to cap it by yourself while 2 enemies are in the area, the flag won't budge. And yeah, more = faster.

I also think (and don't think it's been mentioned) that your proximity to the flag now seems to make a difference. If you're squatting down 10 yards away on the perimeter of the "capture zone" the flag moves very slowly. If you are in a prone position at the base of the flag, I think it goes much faster.

At least, I think I concretely observed this last night.

I love the little touches like the all radio messages are meaningful and affect the actual game in some way. Like when you spot an enemy it pops on the radar for everyone to see (actually VERY important, most people don't know about this), or when you call for medic it pops up on the medics radar etc.

Wow, that's something I wanted in BF42 for a while, too. Saying that you spotted a tank in the original game really wasn't all that helpful, as the best indication the rest of your team got was the grid coordinates of your current location, which didn't narrow things down enough.

Are there any artillery pieces in the demo? If so, have they improved the method for artillery spotting? I always felt that it was too "trial and error" before. If a scout goes to the trouble of actually giving you a target, you shouldn't have to fiddle around for twenty shots trying to get the range and such down.

No more mobile artillery anymore. Now it's just a building type structure, if it's up the commander can call it to rain down hell on an spot.
