Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

Nintendo funded development of the game, published it and owns its code. There's a small chance they might reach an agreement at some point, but it's not particularly likely.
☹️

Now I'm less interested in this because if I ever want to play Bayonetta 2, I'll also get Bayonetta 1 with it (I've never played either but love Platinum's action games).

They're uploading to builds to a branch called 'Aspect Ratio Test Branch'

https://steamdb.info/app/460790/depots/

Might be an official 21:9 fix coming. At release that branch had the same build as the public build so I think they've been working on a fix that just didn't make it in time for release.

Also, it was apparently code named 'Papaya'.

Bayonetta sitting at 30k for day one.. on Steamspy. Of course that number will not be 100% accurate as we haven't passed the 3 day mark yet.

I hope word of mouth keeps this games sales chugging along for a while yet. It's an amazing game that deserves to do Nier: Automata levels of success.

the fuck is this. A 7 yr old action game needs to do as well on steam as a brand new never release action game by the same company? I mean i love bayonetta but this is a triple/double dip for most people.

To be fair, even if it sold as many copies as Nier:A does it would only make 1/3rd as much money.

What's remarkable about Nier are not just its sales, but the price point at which they happened.

Exactly. Good numbers at a high price point. On top of that, it keeps selling so it has good legs.
I'm amazed of how many potential sales they may have lost with their shenanigans about release date.

I'm about to start playing this on my GTX970 and wanted to ask if someone could summarize what settings I should toggle off/on and if I should use Nvidia Vsync etc. to get the best experience?

970 here and I got everything maxed except antialiasing that is off, it runs at smooth 60fps 99% of the time.
Edit: running at 1440p

The game isn't letting me change my resolution to bigger than 1080p? Am I missing something?

To render at resolutions greater than those supported by your display you have to enable DSR in the Nvidia Control Panel. Well, there are other ways but that's the quickest and easiest.

Had the same issue. Might be driver related. I got it to work but then when i turned off DSR, the DSR resolutions still appeared, which was weird. I can't remember what i did to get it to work. I downloaded new drivers from nvidia but i also went to nvidia control panel and went to the tab where you can choose individual programs, added bayonetta and the resolutions showed up.

Might be related to the Win10 creators update, as i postulated in the Steam thread.

Didn't see the resolutions after adding the game on Nvidia panel and enabling DSR. I'll try a new driver since my last one was from january.

Should probably mention resolutions. Digital Foundry's video had drops at 4K for a 970/i5 3570K, Their 1440p tests had no drops though.

Link to the 970 part of the video: https://youtu.be/BVbQF0Ubz48?t=6m20s

By turning SSAO off I managed to do that section basically 60 locked except for the part where that flaming rock hits, which dropped to 47 for a second but I disabled the in-game vsync and I used D3DO overrided for vsync triple buffering and with that it only dropped to 57.

I must be really used to the WiiU port, because I'm not liking the X1 controller for this game (despite loving the controller otherwise). I should figure out how to connect the Pro controller.

what kind of file format is the game stored in? could anyone screenshot the directory?

haven't bought it yet but would love to do some texture mods, clean up some of the older environmental textures + maybe add dualshock button prompts.

I think it's much more likely that they are working on fixing the cutscene bug that happens on resolutions that aren't exactly 16:9.

I need a way to swab A/B and X/Y ingame. You can't change button config for an XInput controller in Bayo1, can you?

I play on the WiiU Pro Controller and the buttons are set accordingly. No matter during regular gameplay, but with those instadeath QTE it's annoying.

I've toyed around with it yesterday

You can use this to unpack the files contained in the .cpk containers http://dbxvmods.freeforums.net/thread/3/cpk-unpack-repack

Haven't had much luck using what's inside there though. A lot of .dat files (generic container, so you don't know what kind of file it is and have to try to open it up with a bunch of different programs to find what it might be) and a bunch of outdated Adobe files.

Updated my drivers and my pc crashed at the end of the install. I then got some fuckery with uninstalling the drivers and my pc not letting me and then I finally somehow (dunno how) got it working again, the installer keeps saying that it fails to install new drivers. I don't even see geforce graphics drivers in control panels delete program anymore, yet my games are running fine as ever. I don't even know where to begin troubleshooting this -_-.

Edit:
Also, when I add bayonetta in Nvidia control panel it doesn't do it properly. I browse to the Bayonetta folder in steam's folders and select the Bayonetta.exe but the control panel won't list it as "bayonetta.exe" but instead it lists the whole folder path and it doesn't save it into the control panel either if I close the panel.

It could be that Windows is installing Microsoft's preferred driver invisibly to 'help'. My advice: get DDU. Use the Safe Mode option and the feature that stops Windows trying to install drivers for you.

Installed and played a little last night. Have an i7 and an Nvidia 750m DDR3 in my laptop.

Playable but choppy on low at 2560x1080 (letterboxed despite the 21:9 rez in the menu).

Switched to windowed 1440x1050 and it was still a bit choppy. But I hadn't optimized (lots of other windows open, etc).

Not bad though so far.

Use display driver uninstaller and reinstall the drivers if you are having issues with then. This makes sure everything is removed so nothing conflicts.

For the control panel i had to add it in mine but it shows correctly though.

E: too slow! :)

G-Sync worked fine for me. Can you describe the problem?
The issue is that it switches the refresh rate to 60Hz in fullscreen mode.
If you have V-Sync off, that causes it to tear - at least on my PG348Q.
Staying in fullscreen mode, I have to hit the turbo button to change the refresh rate back to 100Hz to eliminate the tearing, or run it in borderless/windowed mode since that prevents the game dropping the refresh rate to 60Hz.

Still can't unlock the higher resolutions :/
Bayonetta.exe, when added from Nvidia Control panel doesn't list it as "bayonetta.exe" but does the whole G://game software/steam/steamapps/common/bayonetta/bayonetta.exe. It's the only program in the list that has that going on.
