Okay I need to get this out there..

Im getting sick and tired of everyone asking me why do you have a beard, as if I need to defend my choice.

There was this girl and shes in military police and she said that she'd like to have a drink with me if I'd lose the beard. So I jokingly said that Ill Veto the shaving but would do the drinking. She said "no, I don't do VETO's" to which I replied "I don't take military orders as well as you do apparently". Haven't heard from her since.

Another one : I asked this random woman in the supermarket where I could find the chili paste. She just looks at me and says nothing. So I ask her "excuse me, but why don't you answer? Don't you speak Dutch?" To which she replied " since the attacks at charlie hebdo in paris I dont talk to people with beards anymore".

What the fuck is wrong with people :(

What absurd..i have a beard but people do look at me weird these days i had it also before you need to shave it off..i refuse it's my face and deal with it. What happened to the store is really really weird...like why all of sudden is a beard offensive? It's plain dumb.

Personally I do not think I look like a terrorist hobo who's out for peoples money and lives (see my picture on the previous page). And I do not understand why people must make such a big fuss about it.

Something nice though.. I teach at a secondary school and I had parent night a couple of nights ago. One of my students is from India (He and his family are Sikh) and when I was done talking to his mother she said that she appreciated the beard very much! So it's not all doom and gloom I guess ;)

Oh wow that's some bullshit

I had to scroll up and have a look, and yours is the least hobo-esque beard in this thread. Maybe think of it this way: Would you really want to go out with someone who was that superficial and shallow that something as innocent as facial hair is an issue?

Not only is it a soup strainer, but a shitty person filter, too!

I'd love to wear a mustace/soul patch combo (+ goatee, maybe), something like this:

zap-monstrous-evolution-vampires-werewolves-wi-017

But apart from a lack of growth, my facial hair is quite light of color. After trimming, it's almost invisible, depending on the lighting conditions.

I trimmed it two days ago, so right now it looks seriously pathetic:

It's obviously better when I let it grow for a week or so, but still quite bad. The soul patch, for instance, hardly grows at all, so I gave up on it and started to shave it a long time ago.

I might need to get a new trimmer. The longest comb of my current one is just 6mm, so that's way to short. Well, you can see the result.
But I wonder whether it's even worth it. Maybe I should just shave it off. It looks just bad, doesn't it? Though I could keep the goatee, I guess.

I think I should have let it grow for a more days before taking pictures and posting in here.

I should check off topic more often - Love this thread, subbed!

Maybe you can help me, Beard GAF! I'm thinking about shortening my beard a bit.

My face is a bit long as it is and I think the long beard might be making that even more pronounced... But it just feels weird making the beard shorter since I have been allowing it to grow for some months now.

I have a barber appointment tomorrow for a trim but what do you guys think? Should I take some centimeters off the bottom as well?

Thanks in advance!

IMO I think it needs to be neatened (but not shortened) and if you can, grow it out along the sides. Your hair is like that, having a beard that's bushy on the bottom but has no side definition makes your face longer.

Have you been trimming the sides at all or is that just how it's grown? If you've been thinning the sides out, I'd stop.

It *is* a fine looking beard, though. And your moustache is kickarse.

Any tips for a few problem mustache hairs? I don't keep mine very long because there are a few hairs that appear to be really stiff and go straight out/upwards. It's also not as dense as I'd like but if I could grow it out without problem hairs I think it would look okay.

I tend to only grow out my beard for a semester then shave once finals are done.

Makes me feel refreshed and as if I'm starting over.

That said, I had to trim it because it started to hurt and was distracting from my studies. I'll be shaving it on the 25th and then growing it out throughout the summer semester.

Been taking to this smoking hot Red head for the past few weeks. Ive always shaved before she came over my place, but this time I instead kept my beard and lined up the neck/cheek area. Before she left the other night she told me that I "look fucking sexy" with my beard...Looks like I'm keeping it for awhile lol

Do it for you, not for her. Women are temporary, beards are forever.

Holy shit. I wasn't thinking of growing my moustache out but you've convinced me otherwise. I can only hope mine comes out as half as good as yours.

People love staches, let it grow

Now that's a fucking awesome beard

Any combing of styling tips ?

Well I shampoo and conditioner it about twice a week. I usually put a little beard oil in it or sometimes I use wax to try and flatten the sides or for the mustache. I also comb it after I shower

Jesus Christ man, that beard is amazing. I'm lovin that shirt too. Im thinkin I might grab one.

You definitely should!

Any tips? Wish I could grow hair under the sides of my bottom lip. Also wish I had a fuller / longer moustache, but if I grow it any longer it just curls under my upper lip, and also starts to look really loose and wirey.

Would really like to look like this

but every time I grow it longer, my beard just starts to look like a long bush stick off my chin, rather than a full, all around beard.

Any way to grow the sides better / make hair grow under my lip to fill in those gaps?

It's scary just how much that facial hair (the first photo) comes out exactly like mine. The sticky-out bit under the lip, the mustache that starts to curl into my mouth... maybe it's a red/fair-headed thing.

Have you guys tried a good wax? When I wash mine it curls under, but I can brush it aside and with a little wax it stays there.

This video shows basically what I mean (although my 'stache is nowhere near his).

Hahah, then you have seriously picked your hunting grounds wrong since with all honesty, there is plenty of those around on certain part of the woods. :D

I really like that photo. Also both your hair and facial hair looks splendid. :D

Hey man, your beard and hair look cool.

Figure I'll ask for honest opinions. I've been at work for like 10 hours in this pic, so it's not a best possible version. But I am at work so, does it look clean enough? I work in the field at a mine but would like to know if I should do something trimming wise with it.

Should I trim it more under my chin? Currently I shave the hair within about an inch above my Adams apple. And let everything else grow beyond that.

Looks really well-groomed to me. I wish I had that much control over flyaways tbh.

That looks like a pro photo!

I will try to post a picture of mine here as well for the first time. Trying to decide where to go from where I'm at.

I have had a beard since maybe grade 10, because I had facial hair starting in grade 9. However, I don't let it grow too, too long, and it usually curls when I do. Family members bug me about it until I get it trimmed, but it doesn't look that good anyways.

Honestly, I'm not very good at trimming it myself, and find it a pain in the ass. I do a bit here and there, especially the neck beard part, but I never shave. I usually get it trimmed when I get a haircut, which is like a reset and makes it look a lot better than I could.

That said, I'm starting to become sickened by what some places charge for beard trims. Thankfully, there's a local place that is offering ten dollar haircuts and free beard trims, so I may just take advantage of that next time. I'm just wary because it's in someone's house and that may be awkward.

The best I'd previously found was $10 for the haircut, $5 for a beard trim and then the obligatory $2 tip.

Thanks, both of you :)

Thanks, yeah, we've got a photo studio at school for use by our program, some friends and I were messing around in there the other day and got this shot out of it!

Have not considered it. I've been doing the whole no soap / shampoo thing for 6+ years now, and hairdressers have told me that my hair has been healthier and fuller ever since, so I've been trying to avoid putting things in my beard / stache but I guess the waxes are all natural so I'll give it a shot. Firehouse Moustache Wax is the recommended brand, yeah?

This might be a dumb question. I'm 29 and have very few facial hairs. Do you guys it's possible to be able to grow one eventually (some tips on what might help would be welcome). I've always wanted one, but it's never happened. Wonder if I just can't grow one.

You might not ever get one . . . or you might be like my dad and never find out you can grow one until you wind up in the hospital for a few days, unable to shave. His is still a bit thin, but my mom digs it and that's all that matters.
