I haven't shaved in like 3 weeks, expect around the neck. It started kind of out of laziness, but I have to say that I like it. I am still 18, so I imagine it's normal that it's not growing everywhere at the same pace. Should I just let it grow now?

Tried a new moustache wax. It's totally different to others I've used (more like a cream) and it has a more natural hold... but frankly it smells like slightly sour milk. :-x

Haven't tried Firehouse myself (I've been using Murdock's since I got it) but I might give it a try next. Although I want to try out the BOBO's stuff as well.

If you like it, and it's acceptable in your life (work or whatever) then why not give it a try? Just make sure you're patient and let it grow in as much as possible. I think with most people different parts will grow at different speeds - my 'tache for example not only grows a lot slower but is coloured several shades lighter than my beard. At 4 months now and I really like it, although I still wish my 'tache would fill out more!

Getting beard envy reading this thread.

I haven't wanted to try going full beard except once in my life, and results were just eh, but seeing some epic beards here have inspired me to maybe give it a go by the winter.

Ok guys this is what I'm working with:

Should I stick where I'm at or attempt a longer beard? My cheeks don't fill in any more than they are in these pics, so I'm afraid a longer beard might make my whole head look too long.

For my first few months of beard growing I was trimming the mustache at the lip line. Now I've been letting it grow and trying to turn it away to the sides regularly.

First attempt at a beard in my life, been growing for maybe 10 months with regular trims.

Guy was pretty much a total shit as an autocrat, but Nicholas II's beard always makes me a little moist:

tsar-nicholas-ii.jpg

One day I aspire to having a beard even half as awesome as that.

I shave my neck to just below my jawline. I think that'll look pretty good on u.

Yeah, I am torn.

It looks fine in pics etc... I think I start looking and I see things where it's uneven on one side, or it feels fuller, but most people would never notice. Last time I tried to take care of the issue I messed up my beard. I went up a little on my neck already, about an inch. Maybe I'll go a bit higher.

Since the hair on my neck grows faster ( and there's generaly more hair there) than the area around the cheeks and moustache, I figured I had to make it even. Am I doing this right?

The anti-beard movement on gaf is getting out of hand.
To be fair, all of the examples in that thread are of people who definitely shouldn't be growing a beard - or should still be in the hermit phase, where they don't go out until the beard is full. More than enough examples in this thread of good looking beards!

Lol why does it matter, not everyone likes beards but that's their problem. There's probably quite a few that are just jealous because they either can't grow one or their genetics works against them and they have a weak looking beard if they try.

Let the haters hate, their scorn just bounces off my luscious beard lol.

Guys, Salsa made that thread, lol. And he's right - as with most things, not everyone looks better with a beard, and that should make you guys feel special instead of threatened! :P

Haha too true.

Lol I was just joking around anyways. They're all just peanut butter and jealous.

Well said!

I'm going to start a "let's post arguments against hair" thread and post photos of people with shit haircuts.

Looks like it could just use a trim to tidy it up man. Any barbershops that specialize in beard care in your area?

Help me beardGAF, I feel like I have come as far as is sensible on my beard journey and either need tips on maintenance or I might get rid of it entirely for summer. Thought I would get some opinions from you fine people.

You might do what?! D:
Don't even think about it. Just go to a (good) barbershop around you and ask for a trim. It looks good now, but cutting it here and there to make it look clean won't hurt.

Yup, I'd agree with this. A good trim is in order, but otherwise it looks fine! If there are any particular styles you've been going for, maybe take a picture in as reference?

I don't think there is unfortunately but definitely worth a look, I have mainly been trying to follow online tutorials.

A trim and tidy up is definitely the first stop before making a decision on whether it stays or goes don't worry :D

Internet superstar Jeff Buoncristiano is probably my go to for inspiration at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback though guys!

There’s No Shit in our Beards, but the Mainstream Media is Completely Full Of It
By Nathaniel Beard

Over the last couple of days, a tide of articles has emerged claiming that a “scientific study” has found some beards contain more faecal matter than a toilet. It always amuses me to watch the now-redundant beardless overclass and their increasingly desperate attempts to discredit beards. It should come as a surprise to nobody that the multitude of articles covering this story in such dubious publications as The Mirror and news.com.au contain little to no truth.

Let’s take a look at the actual study shall we? Oh wait – we can’t because it doesn’t exist. After trying to get our hands on the data unearthed in this alleged scientific experiment, it quickly became evident that no proper scientific study took place and no poo was found in any beards. As was reported in The Guardian, the only thing that happened was that a reporter from an Albuquerque news network (yes a reporter and not a scientist) swabbed a handful of beards (the number was unspecified) and then talked to a microbiologist about what the swab-results revealed. They found that “while some contained normal bacteria, others contained bacteria similar to those found in faecal matter”. That’s right – similar, but not the same. The bacteria in question are called “enterics” and are also found in the human intestine. While it’s true that human faeces is partially composed of this type of bacteria, it is wholly inaccurate to claim that the two are one and the same. Further to this, none of the levels of bacteria found in the swabbed beards were high enough to pose any threat to human health. The microbiologist interviewed also pointed out that if you swab anything that we touch regularly – be it your toothbrush, kitchen sponge or the hair on your head, you will find tons of germs. In fact it’s not unheard of for human skin to contain the same kind of bacteria normally found in the gut. This information was omitted by most of the articles, which were more concerned with scare-mongering and hyperbole than accurate, fact-based reporting.

We the bearded are used to these laughable attempts to undermine the beard. The multi-billion dollar shaving industry has reported huge losses on men’s shaving products globally and will do anything they can to manipulate the masses into shaving. This recent swathe of bogus articles should serve as a lesson to the public not to believe everything you read (although the bearded members of the public will already be aware of this, as they’ve been scientifically proven to be smarter, more astute and more well-read than their beardless counterparts). Having said all of this, it should be noted that even if these allegations were true (which they aren’t), even if this was a proper scientific study (which it wasn’t), even if it had a decent sample size (which it didn’t) and even if the results were published in a reputable scientific journal (which they weren’t), I’d still rather have pieces of shit in my beard than be a beardless piece of shit.
Cross-posting from the beard shit thread.

looks great, a trim seems to be all it would need

It's a red blonde mix, and honestly think it looks great. A dense beard looks good like 95% of the time. Me, I'm just trying to let the mustache grow to match the rest myself, but it doesn't come in as dense as my jaw area. I'm not sure if pictures represent my self as well but I want to keep going length wise.

Should I stop and just get it trimmed by a seasoned beard Barber? Or keep going to get more length.

I run into the same thing you're running into where you hit an invisible wall about an inch from your chin outwards. ideally you want to grow outward as well as downward but it's a matter of perspective. for a length like that I bet a pro would help a lot.

not that it doesn't look sweet now but when you're at that point it's all about control.

Is my beard long enough for a Barber to shape it at all, or will they just trim it up.

I honestly don't know what I want it to look like. Should I just keep growing it for awhile and clip off the stray hairs?
Well, it is majestic and certainly looks good to me. :p

That is sexy as hell. Especially loving your side profile. Holy hell.

I am so going to spank your ass if you dare to get rid of it. Just saying.

A wee bit of trimming is all it needs.

kind of really hate the color of my stupid beard.

what good's a blonde mustache anyway
From what I can tell that is one fine example of strawberry blond beard.

I think the beard looks great but you need to match the hair with the beard. Now, your hair is a bit too flat so shake it up a bit. Wild and manly beard needs a wild hair with it!
Edit: especially the colour is great. Wear it proud.

I can't do a beard as good as the most here, you included, so this is my two cents from a semi-good beard camp.

Does anyone else not smell beard oil after the first time they've used it?

I'm using Ricki Halls Booze & Baccy Oil atm and was suprised at how strong it was the first time I applied it (I could smell it pretty much all day), since then I've not been able to smell it when I've applied it though.

The two I've used (mentioned above) I can smell constantly, which is both good and bad based on which one I was using at the time.

Well, I was just in the process of bumping this thread to show you what my fool of a barber did to me on Tuesday:

media

Fortunately, I didn't have far to walk to the car! He used the most sickly sweet smelling wax I've ever smelt - three showers later and I swore I could still smell the stuff. D:

(next time I go in I'll probably have him remove the 'tails' completely, bored of them now)

I'm no Chris Millington, sorry. :'(

Ye gods, I need to get my beard cut like that. But I have a round face, so I have a feeling it would look like arse.

Is that fresh from the barber?
Never been to a barber for my beard. I just use a #5 clipper and go against the grain on the cheeks and with the grain gently about half way down the jaw line, mustache and chin then groom the mustache outwards. If that makes any sense..

So Im leaving it a lot longer from half way down the jaw line to the tip of the chin.

Totally makes sense. Think I'll do that tonight, I usually go with the grain the whole way but that leaves so many stragglers it's ridiculous. The idea of going against makes me a little nervous, my trimmer tends to get hairs caught in it all too often.

I hear that. I need new clippers.

I make sure to do a nice shampoo and condition before I hit it with the clippers. Makes life a bit easier.

I also hit the stragglers with just the blade with no clipper on it. It takes a steady hand hot to fuck things up but makes it look a lot cleaner.

Ps. Im going to take a wild guess and say that you're Irish.
Is your name Shane by the way? Mine is.
Looks badass
Thanks :-)
