When I got back from afghanistan I got to not shave for the first time in a while. The results were too much fun, especially the mustache stage. When I shaved it I made this.

I call it. "The Devolution of a Beard"

Pet peeve: Hair clippers that don't come with lengths greater than #4. Once I get past this point I have to even things out manually with scissors and that's error prone as hell.

So I got lazy shaving in last year's mid-year exam period, and decided to keep it. Obviously cleaned it up a little, but now I can't imagine my face without it.

I used to have a terrible case of baby-face >_>

Have you guys ever used gel, or pomade, or hairspray on your beard? Cause I've reached the point where I'll take recommendations to get this thing to stay straight.

cool beards guys. I got a sick neckbeard going on right now

You being an actual person surprises the shit out of me.

I wasn't sure you were real.

Looking good beardGAF. But Treo360, what happened?

Beard GAF, I screwed up my beard and had to shave it further up the neck than I wanted to last week. I'm thinking of shaving it all off tomorrow for the first time in years. My beard is pretty short so it shouldn't be too hard but all i have is a beard trimmer and a disposable razor. Am i going to be able to accomplish this task?

This is it currently. You can't see the neckline and how bad it looks due to the angle.

Yes. No problem. Beard trimmer as short as possible, then a razor shave (if you must).

Alright. I figured it'd be about as simple as shaving the neck every week is. This is gonna freak some people out though considering some of my friends have never seen me clean shaven.

So what's the best way to clean inside a beard trimmer?

I used to have one that I just ran under water and did my best to get hair out of it. That ended up breaking after a few months due to rust so this time I'm trying to not use water on it.

There is a ton of hair inside it now and I can't really get anything in there to clean it out. Any tips?

I don't know about cleaning it after long term, but I always just hit it against the edge of the sink a few times with the guard off after every use. There might be more hair in there than I know about now that you mentioned something.

I use a fine brush, a toothbrush would probably work too, then wipe it down with a rag. As long as you get the old hair and oil off the teeth it should be fine, most designs seem pretty tolerant of hair around the mechanism as long as it is not jamming up moving parts.

Here's a few pics of my first beard a week in. I just cleaned up the neck. So far I'm pleased. I like the look of it. I'm interested to see where this rabbit hole goes.
Edit: Damn you, mobile imgur! They sure don't make it easy.
Getting a haircut today, hopefully will tidy up my whole situation.

EDIT: Hey guys, if I want to maintain a 1/4" beard I should go with a #2 guard? And a #3 is a 1/3"?

The Beard - This pic was just before Christmas.
So, it started in October because I was too lazy to shave.
Then I kept it so I could be Al from Home Improvement for Halloween...
Then came Movember, so it stayed...
As of today (and in spite of a trimming at the barbers - never again :P), it is continuing it's slow relentless journey down and out...

Now that is the beard lifestyle. Awesome pic.
oh, no it's the other way, just too lazy to change the avatar.

I don't think I'm ever going clean again.

Ah, apologies. Good man :)

That's how it starts... nice looking growth there.
Pretty gross looking, but I like it. Fits my odd head.

Looks like you have good density on the chin, the bane of many many a man. Nice one.

That is a proud beard!

I've started slathering my beard with lotion each night before bed, in addition to the normal shampoo /conditioner regime, hoping to make it softer. Anyone else slather on lotion before bed?

Ha ha Silence of the Lambs joke incoming!

Maybe MY face is pregnant now!

'Sup beard gaf!

Never knew this thread existed. You guys got some good beards going.

I rock a full beard, shaved neck. When my GF(now wife) and I started dating she asked me to shave it, and I said no, i thought i looked better with it. Flash forward 5 years to last week, I shaved it before flying out to meet her on our honeymoon. She freaked for like a day, saying she didnt recognize me, but the best part was she loves the beard and thinks i look much better with it.

Any of you guys ever get any flack from women, your woman about your beard?
