beets, who the hell eats this, and it ends up bleeding and staining everything else on the plate. its a new addition to the top of my worst food list. Along with brussels sprouts.

They are not my favorite but I don't hate them. I hate that momentary panic when you forget you recently ate them and think you shit out a pool of blood though.

Speaking of brussels sprouts, if your opinion of them is based on a childhood memory, they actually taste much better now. I remember them being universally despised when I was a kid, but I had them as an adult and found them surprisingly good and not at all like I remembered. Turns out I wasn't imagining it - brussels sprouts got patched

They're nature's candy, don'tcha know!

My mom made us eat beets when I was a kid. I didn't hate them, but I also haven't eaten them in over 35 years.

I love pickled beets!
Shepherd's pie wouldn't be the same without them.

Brussel sprouts are also great with butter.

My momma raised me to love all kinds of good food 😃

I remember eating them as a kid. They were like candy!

And I love Brussels Sprouts!

You gotta learn how to season foods, bruv!

Go a trendy restaurant or bar serving crispy brussel sprouts and you will be suprised at how good they are.

Hated them growing up but over the last few years love them. Roasted or simply boiled beets are super nice. Still tatse earthy to me, just like baby corn.

Brussel sprouts are great too. The way to do them is to start with a lb of bacon cook it till it's about 75% done. Then pull it but keep the drippings in the pant, then turn up the heat a bit a drop in brussel sprouts that are cut in half. Add salt and pepper. Once the sprouts start to blacken you toss the bacon back in and complete cooking it. Serve while it's still hot. It's amazing beside a steak and mashed potatoes.

It's meh the next day though.

After growing up, I've even learnt to like spinach :)

I wouldn't say beetroots are my favorite food, but borscht/barszcz soup is f---g fantastic, pickled beet salad is a must when having a roasted duck, and you can use beet slices in hamburgers as well.

Last but not least, for the brave ones, there's fermented beet juice.

Boiled brussel sprouts are rank.

However, coat them lightly in olive oil, then cover with salt, black pepper and garlic, then oven roast them for about 30 minutes.

Do that and they'll be your favourite side dish.

Beets have a ton of nitrates it's a natural vasodilator and super helpful in colder months when cold weather constricts your blood vessels it'll help open them up and get you moving. It's a very powerful food. Brussels sprouts too cruciferous veggies are anti cancer

Beets and brussies are incredible, I legitimately have no idea what you're talking about.

In fact, most veggies kick ass if you simply cook them and season them, don't even need salt really, just some good pepper and a decent blend of herbs, and you're off and running. Beets in particular are naturally very sweet, they're incredibly delicious.

Youre doing it wrong.

Try again: cold (ideally fresh but pickled is fine too) with mature cheddar cheese.

I love them as my mom made them.
As a salad, shredded, with some olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, a bit of mayo and for the extra touch a bit of horseradish paste.

Guessing that's what we call Beetroot. Beetroot is great, I have the pickled slices with cold meats salad and potatoes and I had some roast beetroot with my Christmas dinner.

Fun fact, certain stem cell treatments smell like beetroot.

Kids were getting it on the oncology ward when I was young and the smell repulses me. Someone can open a jar on the other side of the house and I can smell it in seconds. I seem to be hypersensitive to dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Though strangely it only bothers me slightly with sweetcorn and not at all with garlic (which I love); both of which also contain DMSO.

I can barely be in the vicinity of beetroot, it's like my kryptonite. I can't imagine having to eat it.

Brussels and beats becoming a staple in my diet was when I knew I was finally becoming my parents. But God they were right- these things are delicious.

Brussels, hacked up beets and bacon fried in a pan together with salt and pepper, fuckin awsome. Or just hacked up beets and onions and hacked up potatoes from yesterday and some meet from yesterday fried in a pan with alot of butter.

They're super healthy (detoxifying) and have a unique taste, but need a proper cooking time.

Once spongy soft I'll cut them up in small cubes together with stuff like carrot, cucumber, celery, apple, and mix everything with a simple dressing made of mayo + mustard + lemon juice.

Also, I've found it's a great ingredient for gimbap ("Korean sushi rolls") when cut into oblong pieces and simmered on the lowest fire in a layer of water with some soy sauce and mirin (or rice wince + sugar) until all liquid is evaporated. Beetroot is great at absorbing flavors.

If a gun is held to your head and you are given a choice: Eat some pussy(vagina) or some beets. You have to choose or you die. What option will you choose?

Not a fan of beets either. Been a long time since I had one but I don't want another one.

This is true. I had frozen boiled Brussel sprouts out of a bag once and they were horrible, like giant boogers. Avoided them for two decades.

But then recently I tried some that came on a side dish that were roasted and crispy and they were significantly better. Still not my favorite taste but it went from the worst food ever to a decent side dish.

This blue haired writer sitting close to me at work had beet chips and the taste was awful I'll give you that 😊

The taste is fine, but the texture and the absolute bloody mess they make with that color mean I don't go out of my way to have them.
Brussel sprouts are excellent.
