Before Elden Ring was released did you know it could be a 10/10 game?

Well, Bloodborne was kinda one of the best games ever so...

I can't recall how I heard of it, what I heard about it, or why I bought it (aside from it being From's new game).

I do remember while playing:
1. This is essentially a bleak, adult Zelda. Pretty sweet!
2. Eventually realized it's like 4 Dark Souls 3's stitched together, in size and scope, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The one knock I would give it, which is subjective, is that the final boss was way too hard on release.
Took me an extra 10-15 hours to get and upgrade better weapons, and 2 years later they patched the final boss to be able to use Torrent
Being able to use Torrent there seems like a no-brainer and an overlooked bug, whether it actually is or not.

I don't think I'd ever play through it again, but I completed every dungeon and cave and boss and area I could find.
Got like 150 hours of enjoyment out of it, and aside from the final boss I do think it deserves a 10 if you like this type of game.

The initial run through a new From game is some magical shit, and ER almost dethroned BB for the top spot in that regard.
While many find fault with the open world, I found ER's map more engaging than the most recent Zelda's.
Unfortunately the sheer size of it, plus the expansion almost guarantees that I'll never play it again.

I remember reading/watching all of the pre-release impressions, with the general gist of them being "Elden Ring = Dark Souls + open world." On paper, this sounded like the best game ever to me, as I loved the Dark Souls series and greatly enjoyed open world games in general. So I was definitely expecting a personal 10/10, yes.

I didn't stop to ponder about how an open world Dark Souls would actually play, how some of the series' best elements such as its dense, hand-crafted level/dungeon design and tight pacing would be preserved in an open world setting. As it turns out, not all that well. :(

I played it 4 times and it's still not a 10/10. The story if you can even call it that is shit, so it automatically loses 2 points by default and don't get me started on some of its technical aspects. Love replaying it, but calling it perfect or 10/10 is simply stupid.

A high track record prior to it's release?

I would consider it a strong 9 due to various small issues, but it is still worthy of being mentioned in the top 10 of it's generation.

Imagine the game Fromsoft would create if they could somehow team up with Bluepoint on the graphical/technical end of things.

It would be the perfect trifecta of graphical art, technical prowess, and gameplay.

Mauricio de Sousa, easily the biggest name is brazilian comic history, told in a interview that comic industry needs two types... the crazy one and the mechanical one. I believe that this is the exact/dream scenario.

This is still one of, if not, the best looking PS5 game so far. I loved it. Bummed we haven't gotten more of this quality.

Chromatic Aberration, Vignette and bad optimization automatically make it not eligible to a perfect score. I know the technical side isn't everything, but it IS something, and it has its importance, a game can't be perfect, with a perfect score, if its technical side is terrible.

Base game is a 8/10 due to Torrent double hop and modding (mostly allowing you to use Torrent and skills practically everywhere). Without those it becomes a 7/10. The DLC is 5/10. It has some really crap boss designs and the big set pieces and level design fell short.

At this point (actually a lot earlier) these games have had a free tax on them that automatically give them a bump in score before release, and after release they have this journalist invincibility that makes them immune to the amount of criticism the games truly deserve. It is similar to Nintendo products.

I loved the original Demon's Souls and Dark Souls and hold them levels above Elden Ring. Ive said it before, Elden Ring was not very good (to me) and from the trailers, it did nothing to show any evolution in the series that would have a meaningful impact, so from a personal stand point, it was never going to be a 10/10. (I genuinely thought it was tied as the worst in the series)

I expect it to be successful, I mean it's from studio that produced bloodborne and dark soul series.

I never expected it to become enormous phenomenon with over 30 millions of sales and destroyed almost any other jprg in this era.

Quality wise, back then I always think it will be a great 9/10 games like bloodborne; and personally form software delivers with elden ring, some poor optimizations but story and gameplay is almost second to none when it was released. Not a popular opinion, I know.

I still blame Jim Ryan's 'everything gaas' plan which set everyone, including bluepoint, back years because they were all working on multiplayer projects where half of them ended up being axed anyway.

Such an insanely tunnel-visioned idea.

I was excited because it was From, but I watched as little as possible beforehand because I knew it was day 1 anyway and didn't want to be spoiled. I had no clue it would be my favorite game ever, and still is.

And, yes, it's absolutely a 10/10.

Unpopular opinion but I honestly never liked the open world, I feel like it really didn't add anything other than wasting time on mounting around.
The world is just way too empty.
It was cool finding new places and all the first time but on replay especially I just wish it had the traditional formula you spend so much time just mounting from place to place.

The dungeons also have terrible rewards especially the ones that reward runes there's like zero reason to do them.

don't you dare to make me want to play it again : ))
dang, i need another playthrough, but the time consumed to another NG is too long

i really like it, but i'm working with cyberpunked and ninja theme right now, cannot playing something that different sadly

Yes. At the point, FromSoftware was absolutely crushing it. (And still are). I had no doubt it was going to be excellent.

(I still liked Dark Souls and Demons souls better)

Thought it was a 10 seeing the first trailer. Thought it was a 10 when I first played it. The two times I've tried replaying it since, and I've gotta drop it down to a 9. It lost a lot of its appeal after that first explorational playthrough. I had more fun with the linearity of Dark Souls 3 when I last replayed that in comparison.

I had faith in the game since he reveal trailer. FROM has never missed when it comes to Souls games, even DS2 is better than 99% of games.

Thanks for posting these gifs. Great reminder that it's still one of the most graphically impressive titles of this gen. Volumetrics, lighting, textures, all so incredibly well done.

As far as ER goes, it's probably the worst souls entry by far.

I had a ton of fun with the game, but it's not perfect by any means.

Reused bosses, very samey mini-dungeons, the usual from-jank, spirit ashes which I didn't like at all and lack of armor variety, at least for my build lol.

Could have been better but still, amazing experience.
