I'd take this as well. Would probably be a better role for him actually.

Hmm I like him but that would be a downgrade to me.
The more I watch that gif the more I want Gyllenhaal to be Joker. Also Keaton as old Bruce and Taron Egerton playing Terry McGinnis sounds amazing.

I actually like Batfleck.

Why ??????

I hope this is bullshit because Batfleck is incredible, the best Batman

Bale is very meh, his combats are shitty, always had a problem with his mouth too ...
He had just the luck to be in the Batman movies made by Nolan, that's it

I did not know this was an opinion that existed. Everyday the universe provides you with new wonders.

You know, that isn't a terrible idea.

Have the Justice League get wrecked by Darkseid and Flash can go back in time. Meet a younger, less disillusioned, non-murdery Bruce Wayne (a younger actor) - maybe just after the death of Robin - and have the Flash coach him into being a better person. "There's an alien from another world coming - he'll define the future - help him be a good person" or something.

Then you can pick up the next Justice League after that timeline's Man of Steel. Gal Gadot still being Wonder Woman, due to her being immortal and all. But with them being proactive, with an alive Superman and a heroic Batman taking the fight to Darkseid with prep-time. And you might also get to have a Joker who doesn't have his teeth bashed in. All the good films could be set in this new continuity.

Damn, now I want this to happen. It would be the most comic book thing ever put to the big screen.
Yep do something that never really has been done before and end the movie in defeat. Have the idea that Flash didn't go back far enough in BvS, get him to go back further and get the gang to meet up earlier. Obviously Flash and WW could stay the same. Sort of how New52 made all the heroes younger again.

I would be down for a one off Burton sequel with Keaton reprising the role as an old ass Batman, after seeing him in Homecoming.

And in regards to a Batman of the Future film (yes please!), I think it would be an ideal oppertunity to finally cast an Asian superhero. Terry always looked a bit Asian to me anyways in the cartoons. That said, Egerton would be ace undoubtedly.

Also, you don't have to spoiler tag you like Batfleck, because that isn't that much of an out of the ordinary opinion. I like him fine, but think it is better than WB heads into a different direction at this point. I just wished they had Snyder do a Batman Returns two parter or something, it would've made for two decent/good Batflicks I am sure.

This is what you do as the studio. You get the best makeup crew to make the best"old man affleck" face mask. You get a good actor like Daniel day Lewis to west it for 20 minutes in the next Batman film and have the star be just him handing the mantle to someone else and you move on cause batffleck was garbage.

Why wouldn’t you just recast and not say anything? Bond and Batman are the two franchises basically already accepting of this

They should do Flashpoint and by the end have something like this with the new Batman:

Except the letter is from Baffleck asking the new Bat not to give hope, or something.

Dear Son,

When you do an interview don't stay silent for 5 minutes so that Betty can add a Simon and Garfunkel track on your ass.

Signed Dad

Aww but I like grizzled, swole Batfleck! And unless they do a total universe reboot, which is highly unlikely, a recast is just gonna be awkward.

If they do go through with it though, I'd rather they just replace him without messing with the story and coming up with some weird reason why there is a different Batman.

Because of the cinematic universe they're building. It was pretty lame when the MCU did it with War Machine and Hulk (and Fandral lol), but this would be worse because it'd be like recasting Tony Stark.

They could still do it the way you're saying though. It's totally an option.

It's a shame because the problem wasn't with him. Does this mean after the Justice League movie they're going to reboot the DCU again?

I think Wonder Woman and their financial success with the panned films will stave that off for a while. However only aquaman is in the works right now as far as post justice league movies go. They've announced a bunch of titles just no firm dates or production schedules. So I wouldn't be surprised if they had just one or zero come out in 2019 as they sort of re gear

With CryptiK's suggestion they could probably do that moment without Flashpoint.

If it were up to me this is how Justice League would go down, broadly:

Justice League happens, assemble the six blah blah, it's called a Mother Box blah blah, I'm Steppenwolf blah blah. The League assembles, and they defeat Steppenwolf. Then they find out he was just a messenger for things to come. Darkseid arrives, with a revived Superman as his new right hand man. Maybe he kills Cyborg right off the bat, to acquire the Mother Box within him. It's a big scramble to survive action scene.

Then you cut forward several months, and Darkseid has taken over the Earth. His Omega symbols standing where cities used to. And you see Batman, in a trench-coat meeting with the remaining Justice League. Aquaman has one arm, with a hook, because why not. Batman explains his plan - he needs to kill Superman. He's going to attain some Kryptonite he's been tracking, but it might be a trap, but it's the only chance they have. Maybe he says something to Wonder Woman about Pasithea. Then he pulls Flash aside.

"You were the one who warned me about this. I need you to go back".

"But it didn't work"

"You have to go back further. When you met me... I had lost someone... it - it broke something inside me. I pushed Superman to become what he is. When you meet me - give him this letter. Let him know that no matter what happens there's still good. He can still strive for good", or something better written than that.

Then you can have a final scene with Flash gaining speed on a thrown together cosmic treadmill, while being protected by Aquaman and Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman calls on Pasithea to give Bruce Wayne of the past a vision of his present. Then Flash finally picks up enough speed and rips through the time barrier, and it's basically the BvS scene with a younger actor as Batman - you see him startle awake from a bad dream, then Flash shows up in a burst of light. You know what, forget about the letter. He just straight up tells Bruce what future Bruce told him. And Bruce looks up at him and says "My father. That's what my father used to tell me". Or something more poignant than that.

Then Flash is pulled back through time and it's this somber moment where Darkseid shows up, flying upright, and just eviscerates them. You see Batman get cut in half by Superman's heat vision too.

Then you cut back to past Bruce. He walks up to the Robin suit with renewed determination, walks over to the Batsuit then cut to credits. Or a more interesting scene than that.

The DCEU repaired!

Eh... I agree that it's a bummer whenever it happens. But, I can't agree that you can't you just recast and move along. It's like how the comics work. Eventually a new artist comes along and the characters look kinda different, but people accept it.

That sounds good, but would traumatize every kid forever.

I really hope this isn't D.C. Or warners thinking Affleck is the problem. The problem is warners not letting people make good films and giving stewardship of the D.C. Cinematic universe to Snyder.

That's not it. Neither WB or Affleck is at fault, the man is simply going through a rough patch in life.

No one can predict these things, they just happen.

Yes! I've been wanting Bats to get recast.

I thought Affleck was a terrible Bruce (even more so when you start comparing to Bale's rendition) and his Batman wasn't anything special.

About the only thing going for him in BvS was his costume.

He had just the luck to be in the Batman movies made by Nolan, that's it

Bale's shortcomings as Batman are, ironically, also due to the movies he's in and have nothing to do with his performance. It's especially evident in his portrayal of Bruce Wayne. Affleck isn't half the actor Bale is.

Affleck is a good Wayne. I liked his broodiness. And his build and look as Bruce seems kind of untouchable by any actor imo. He looks like Cary Grant on steroids in BvS.

But Bale was the better Wayne, he had more given to him too sure, but it was a dope performance. It also helps that he's one of the best actors out there right now whereas Ben Affleck is charismatic but just aiight.

As for the batsuit and fighting and all that shit, that's on the people behind the camera. And Snyder hired a great choreographer for Batman so you can put Michael Cera in that suit and would still end up with equally good fight scenes as the one with Batfleck.

I hope he does stay on though. And if not him then Jon Hamm or something. I want him to be in his 40s and have that Don Draper-esque machismo

It's a shame that DC handled their universe so poorly. How great would it have been if we got a standalone Batman movie, the standalone Wonder Woman movie, and THEN BvS, and then Justice League.

But no, they had to rush and fumble and fuck it all up. BvS would have felt so much more solid when we knew the characters better and they had more history with us.

The first time Batman is on screen in BvS is so good. A whole movie with that look and tone would be great.

I mean, if this happens, it's not a result of BvS or anything, or WB having issues with Affleck. If they did have any issues, it was with Affleck directing after Live By Night bombed out, but that was taken care of.

If this is true, it honestly sounds like Affleck is just going through a rough patch in his life. Similar to the reason Snyder dropped out of the JL reshoots.

He also dropped out of a Netflix movie recently. Though that project has had like 10 different actors drop out before so it's not immediately a sign of a problem with affleck

But I imagine if this rumor rings true it's because of Affleck being currently disillusioned and having some personal troubles. Man needs a break. Anyways we'll see what comes of this

Yea this post nails it pretty much. As someone who grew up as a "DC kid" it sucks to see that Warner Bros just keeps screwing things up when it comes to the DCEU. Kevin Feige and the folks over at Marvel had, many many years ago, they had a plan. And they have executed it very well and the movies have all been building up to a crescendo and it'll all culminate with Avengers Infinity War.

Over on the other side at Warners aka as Chump Street, we're looking at their stable of films, Man of Steel, BvS etc. And regardless of the content, and of Snyder I just feel like there is no "grand plan". Kevin Tsujihara has no plan and frankly, the folks he's signing off on to work on these films have no respect for the source material, save Geoff Johns.

It all feels reactionary to the success of Marvel studios. It all feels like "wait a minute, we have a stable of universally loved comic book characters, and Marvel/Disney is making money hand over fist. We need to get in on this before the bubble bursts".

I like Batfleck, but if he truly is on the way out then I want Armie Hammer as Bats

I approve. It allows for Ben Affleck to return as Old Bats later, should WB choose, but also allows WB to recast whoever they want (save for Wonder Woman, where that movie becomes the only canonical film in the new timeline). It also builds up Darkseid and lets DC start fresh with individual films.

I like batfleck but I still know a lot of people that are pissed about him playing the role (for w/e reason), so I don't think it's as bad of a situation as some people are painting.

Personally I would flash point it, or atleast provide a instory explanation rather than a raw switch like they did with Norton in the Hulk or Keaton in all the Batman films. I think it's way too early to be doing Dickbats, and I don't think the reception would be that great without building Dick up on his own.

Why is everyone saying it's stuff on Affleck's end? I'm assuming they mean besides age...

Obviously his battle with the bottle isn't helping.

It's kinda the reverse RDJ where he kicked his shit before starting IM, Affleck is trying to do it while doing Bat. That's rough.

It's a shame because the problem wasn't with him. Does this mean after the Justice League movie they're going to reboot the DCU again?

Nah, they'll just make the next 5 movies prequels to BvS and JL, so Batman stories don't have to work around the post apocalyptic hellscape undoubtedly being CGI'd to life by Snyder.

Prequel = easy to justify McAvoying the Batman.

No, they won't, or maybe they will, but we don't know. I think it's time for us to stop spouting out speculation as truths and just wait and see.

Since his divorce he has had a rough go at it

Even was in rehab earlier this year. It seems his passion may have died down a bit. And I don't think the stress of writing/directing/starring in a major Batman project helped during those times.

Also I don't get people calling for or suggesting a reboot. Like what sense at all does that make for WB? And we're seeing with Spider-man just because you reboot doesn't mean you gain renewed interest

Of all the things they could get rid of, Batfleck is pretty much at the bottom of that list.

Get rid of Leto as Joker, get rid of Will Smith as Deadshot and hell, just forget that Suicide Squad as a movie exists and try again after the next Batman movie has been released and we have a better idea of what direction the solo movie will be going in.
