Ben Affleck's Batman Future in Doubt as Warner Bros. Plots Franchise

So Affleck's older Batman is going to die and pass the cowl to a younger replacement? That sucks, I really enjoyed Batfleck.

No DoFP torch passing stuff, just recast without explanation like they've always done.

Recast someone who's younger and less of a star without issues like Affleck has.

Would like to see Affleck in matt Reeves version of Batman before I consider a different actor. Give them a chance.

Just admit they screwed up with the planning and set The Batman wayyy before Justice League. Start the movie with Bruce (Affleck) reading an email from Diana asking how he became Batman. Then he starts typing a reply: 'Well Diana, 20 years ago......' Bye bye Batfleck. Thus coming full circle. It's like poetry.

Lol jk

I hope the Reeves Batman is more grounded, detective movie.

I miss Bale and Nolan's but eh, will probably never be matched.

It's time to introduce the movie going world to Terry McGinnis.

Long overdue for a live action adaption of Beyond. It also gives the studio a way to keep the continuity without recasting Bruce Wayne.

Live Action Beyond would be amazing. They could make it seperate from DCU if they wanted, have Bale or a previous Batman come back to be old Bruce. Neo Gotham would look amazing.

Its time to tell the Batman Beyond story with Michael Keeton cast a old Bruce Wayne. They can pick an slightly young older man to cast as Dick Grayson.

So uhhh suddenly nobody responding on what Affleck said during the panel? Figures. :D

Personally I don't buy it right now. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Batfleck star in the solo film. I love him in the role.

However Ben has already shown earlier this year that his words and his actions don't always line up with one another- and there's still several more months to go before Justice League is released in the theaters. Neither he or Warner Bros will ever announce his departure from the DCEU before that film is out in the theaters.

Hell, even the announcement of a Flashpoint movie today seems to correlate with the report from THR yesterday about Warner Bros trying to figure out a way to "gracefully usher him out."

If Ben's at Hall H for the DCEU next year, I'll believe him then. Right now I'm too skeptical.

I'll believe that Affleck isn't leaving the DCEU when Reeves starts filming with him confirmed as the lead (as opposed to a secondary passing-the-torch role). Until then, grain of salt.

Flashpoint. That is my response.

Personally the big question mark is how that might play into Reeves' Batman trilogy idea.

If The Batman really does come out in 2019, then yeah, I can see that meaning that Affleck will star in the first film as I doubt we'll be getting Flashpoint for awhile- but how would the effects of Flashpoint altering the canon potentially affect Reeves' subsequent films beyond recasting for Bruce?

I feel like it'd just be a smoother process to do Flashpoint before Reeves' films and go forward from there.

Being 100% honest here, I think any Big Comic retcon events being applied to film is a terrible fucking idea.

I dont think its a bad idea.

But its a idea that will need a level of finesse and exaction I am not sure the folks over at Warner can handle. Maybe we will see with what comes next and if Wonder Women was either a fluke or a sign they have finally learned.

Basically he's bats and enjoys being bats

Unless I missed something from the panel, it's a bit of a non-denial.

"I'm Batman and I love being Batman!" (paraphrasing) is not the same as "I'm Batman and I love being Batman and I'm here for the next x films!"

Yeah, on the surface it can be read as "ZOMG Batfleck is staying - suck it, rumourz!" but it leaves plenty of room for him to bow out.

I think he wants to be in The Batman, but there's obviously something going on between him and WB. Ben's attempt at coach talk -- 'I love my job, I love being here.'

It's likely no different than all the asks that Ryan Reynolds wanted for deadpool 2 that resulted in Tim Miller leaving the directors chair.

Ben Affleck is a huge name, and he likely has a lot of demands when it comes to characters he plays (and hell, didn't he co-write the original screenplay for The Batman that has now been rewritten twice?) We've seen this shit happen with tons of big films.

I don't think they pull an MCU and recast Batman (until a proper reboot outside of their Extended Cinematic Universe) like they did with Edward Norton and the Hulk, but They have an opportunity with Flashpoint to establish a batman that isn't Bruce Wayne.

He's done this before.

The announcement of Flashpoint being in the works indicates to me that there's almost definitely some truth to the THR reports that Warner Bros are looking to transition from Batfleck to another take on the character.
Considering Snyder started with a bitter, older TDKR Batman, they could find this Batman doesn't leave them lots of places to go with the character. Imagine making Logan as the first Wolverine film, then trying to build a franchise off of that.
