Ben Afflecks Batman script is a mess according to fanboys prone to confirmation bias

The wrong thing was bolded in that opening post.

So it's not even a first hand account or a second hand account but a third hand account? People are taking that as 100% truth here?
Seriously. Not even worth discussing. Ellis knows people who know people who know things? Okay.

These the same executives that meddled a ton with Suicide Squad and a bit with BvS? Not sure I believe they've done a complete 180 to not caring about anything now.

They could have given Ayer complete free reign and Suicide Squad would have still ended up a steaming pile. The production was rushed, he wrote the thing in six weeks. The fact that they went ahead with a quickly scrapped together script for a big DCEU movie before sorta leads credence to the idea that they'd do it again.

Affleck is an incredibly mediocre & boring movie maker anyway. Just scrap him and please get a competent director again, goddamnit.

Why should they, to be honest?

SS and BvS sucked and brought in 750MM and 850MM respectively. A new solo Batman - even with Affleck as Bruce Wayne - will bring in 800MM - 1.1B, easily. As long as the money keeps pouring in, the execs will be happy.

We know batman v superman and suicixde squad were a mess, so I'm not sure why this will be any different.

I've read terrible scripts that somehow look amazing on screen and amazing scripts that fell down when accurately filmed. Movies can be about a single aspect like photography but more often they're the sum of their parts, and everything in the credits contributed or corroded the end result.

Like this entire statement is literally "I heard from a friend who heard from a friend who hear friend". So you gotta forgive my skepticism against a proven great script writer who is still drafting the script.

Isn't that kind of a racist remark? Why would people who see the movie localized not care about the bad script?

American blockbusters, especially effects driven ones tend to do well overseas regardless of the critical reception domestically. Kinda like how nobody gave a shit about Warcraft but it did well in China. Basically go back and look at any of the effects heavy films that got critically savaged in the US and didn't perform well, they probably did perfectly fine overseas. That's why you're seeing more of these projects include foreign locales, especially for the Asian market.

If this is true I can't say I would be surprised at this level of not giving a fuck. Sad because I definitely do not want a trash batman film but if it is then just another mark against DC

Well my uncle works at Ben Affleck and he says the script was great.

I'll wait till I see the movie before I pass judgement. Plenty of movies have been saved in editing. Plus there'll no doubt be reshoot and rewrites.

Yeah let´s all dive on in and believe those magic third-hand overheard conversations. I would seriously take this shit with a grain of salt, and at least wait until reviews shows up.
Furthermore...Ben Affleck himself wrote Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Good Will Hunting. I´ll take his earlier written work as a positive thing until further notice.

* Executives make script changes *
Internet: EFF U!!! LET THE WRITER AND DIRECTOR DO THEIR THING! EFF U!

Well, I mean...WB studio meddling led to BvS, so who cares what they have to say? Also, Geoff Johns is spearheading DC Films and from what I understand WB really doesn't have much say in the creative process, so who knows what's going on.

I also don't put much faith into anything Ellis says.

What you or someone else thinks about those films is not the issue here. The source and validity of the information is and it admittedly has gone through a game of telephone. The "I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy that said" is not a valid source of information for anything. Just because it fits a narrative one wants to push still doesn't make it valid. Nor should it be used.

why should they care about story? it's obvious from the financial success of BvS and SS people watch these things based on trailers alone.

plus you can later sell addicts on "Ultimate Edition" cuts, monetizing both completionist tendencies and your lazy editing/writing.

It doesn't matter if it's good or terrible, whichever way it comes out I'll enjoy the outcome. One way I get a decent movie, the other I get to see a giant shit show. Silver linings everyone.

This rumor is pretty unreliable to say the least, but given WB's track record with these things I wouldn't be surprised if this one turned out to be a dud too. Everyone over there probably has no idea what to do with Batman. Make it dark, which everyone apparently hates given that BvS underperformed? Or fuck with the script to make it light-hearted, which worked out so well for SS?

At this point, I'm not planning on seeing any DC super hero movie that doesn't have Lego in front of the title.

So someone heard something from someone who heard something from someone who heard something from someone and it's being reported as truth? And people have their pitchforks out already? Oh, DCEU thread in the OT. Nevermind...

This makes me wonder: how many people with parents/friends/relatives who actually work at Nintendo or wherever have gotten shit from others because of that.

Shhhh, why you letting common sense get in the way of a good story?

My take on this:

Affleck will never be happy with the script, but is allowed to change anything he wants. He always talks like with big respect for the character ans his history, he doesn't want to fuck this up.
