Besiege - Physics based vehicle construction goes medieval

I sure hope they can improve performance a lot going forward. Even my i7 4770K@4,2GHz and 970 can't even maintain 5FPS when it starts to get bigger. It's also really weird how it goes from completely playable to a slideshow when just adding a few blocks, 4 pistons and 4 powered wheels.

I had a big crazy killing machine planned out, when half of it was done my fps was already so bad that I couldn't finish it. The physics also seems to act up when the fps is too low and my thing could just blow up when I moved one of the parts, which didn't happen at 60fps.

One thing I didnt notice for a while is that in the top left theres a "simulation speed" slider, for bigger designs that hit your fps try dropping it down to 50% or so and stuff usually works again. Its slower of course but better than stuttery slideshows. I do agree that they need to work on improving performance its not like its even causing a heavy load on the system when it starts chugging

made a thing that was just 5 rows of 17 cannons each row it kills my frame rate but really fun to just send a wall of death at them

Slow motion is also helpful in trying to troubleshoot design failures. It makes it easier to see what part of the machine failed first.

Amazing.

Does anyone know why I can't put wooden blocks on top of my hinge? Trying to make a catapult and can't seem to get past that step. It gives me an "Intersection" warning.

Are you putting a single block on top of the hinge and then building out from that? Edit: You are probably too close to either the build box, or too close to the thing you want to destroy probably. Try moving it back a bit (or forward).

Just finished my (soon to be reloadable) catapult. I mainly did it to experiment with different keybindings for a lot of stuff.

This is magnificent. Thanks for sharing.

I liked this one I saw online.

The transformer one, and this one as well - the intricacy of some of these is just staggering.

Games like this always make me jealous I don't have more of a mind for engineering. Because I absolutely love this kind of stuff but I'm absolutely rubbish at building things. :lol

Game is so much fun. Doing tthe second half of the first resource mission with half my chassis dragging along the floor was epic.

I am pretty bad at coming up with stuff myself, just start small and work your way up from there. That thing started with the catapult, then I decided to have something deliver the bomb and it all just worked out in the end. I spent like 3 hours messing around with that one trying different stuff.

Now, here's the final result! Too bad it's WAY too big to finish a level with for real. :P

Hoping they add some kind of a spawner tool soon, would make stuff like the revolver, crossbows, and catapults even better.

Also, I think I broke the game and made a weapon that can break through stone(without throwing a bomb at it)

Come the fuck on... I quit, there's simply no catching up to some of these. Is there a way to download user created weapons?
Yes
You can save and share your vehicles with others. Here are steps from the game's forums:

- Your saves are stored in the following directory: [Besiege Main Directory]Besiege_DataSavedMachines
- The game creates thumbnails for your machines they are stored here: [Besiege Main Directory]Besiege_DataSavedMachinesThumbnails

- To use other people's machines simply download the file and save it into: [Besiege Main Directory]Besiege_DataSavedMachines

Is it possible to lock the camera behind behind your vehicle? I've built a helicopter that needs two hands to control and having the camera follow behind would make piloting the thing a lot easier!

You can middle click on a block to have it follow a part on your machine, but there's no auto-rotation on the camera yet

That is honestly amazing. Great work dude.

I was quite proud when I made a weapon that could move forward, turn right and left without falling to pieces.

These gifs are making me depressed. :3

I knew people can do some amazing stuff in this game, but seeing that, I don't even know why bother trying. I just can't wrap my head around it at all, I can barely get something that goes in the right direction, much less anything that can fly.

I can wrap my head around the concepts well enough, it's putting the thought, effort, and time into it to actually build something like that, is what I have a hard time doing. I'm happy to build a little go-cart with a flamethrower on the front, and I come out here and guys are literally building Transformers. Mind-blowing stuff.. hehe.

Like Xyber said, you gotta start small and work your way up. I doubt many of the crazy contraptions you see were meticulously planned before construction. Also, the big complicated contraptions take a long time, and there is plenty of failure that you don't see.

Building something that can turn and drive is pretty easy. This is my go-to template, works like a charm

Map the movement of the left inner wheels to Right - Left, and the right inner wheels to Left - Right.

I find it a bit cheap to just steal the music from the trailer of another highly popular gaming franchise but still props to the almost unheard-of Polish composer, one of the best original music pieces of 2007

as someone who loved Banjo and even Cargo, this game is made for me
Raindrop Prelude is Chopin sir. Almost unheard of? Marty Odonell didn't create it or anything. Its free game.

What the hell does that even mean? I've seen it said over and over, but when I actually sit down and look at the wheels in-game, it makes zero sense.
You can edit the controls
ScreenMap.jpg

On the top of the screen, click the Key Remap icon and then click the blocks/wheels/pistons/etc and you change what buttons control them.

This is an older picture. In the current version, the Key Remap icon is a wrench

Sorry, I just love this picture, I'm laughing too hard right now.. lol. I'll give it a go later, I haven't put that much time into the game so far.
