Best boss fight themes?

Kiriku

SWEDISH PERFECTION
I'm thinking RPGs myself, but other genres are also welcome of course.

Of course, I'm always up for some Gilgamesh pimping. His theme song in Final Fantasy V ranks high on my list, crazy-high speed tempo and shifting notes to get you all riled up. I tried to play it on piano once, but...well....:(

Another one, perhaps not so obvious is a song I've been stuck listening to for the past week or so. I started listening to the Suikoden II soundtrack recently, it's been a while.
Gothic Neclord. Really. It wasn't that great at first, and I used to skip it...then I realized just how massively epic and omnious it is. It also has this Castlevania style to it that I love. It's just awesome...and the arranged version makes it even better. It's also fitting for that particular boss I think.

Anyway, your favorites?

Not an RPG but it has to be said...

Snake VS The Boss - "Snake Eater", Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Amen. So epic, so touching. Greatest boss fight & music evar.

PSO Ep. 1, De Rol Le (cave boss) theme.

Vol Opt's, the mines boss, is also great (that's actually two tunes).

One Winged Angel. I mean, you KNOW a boss battle music is good when you actually remember the name of the song several years later.

FFIV Boss/Calbrena/Zeromus
FFVI Decisive Battle/Atma Weapon
FFVII Boss/Jenova(regular and final)/One Winged Angel
FFTactics (hell, pick one)
Megaman 2 (normal boss battle)
Megaman 3 (wily stage boss battles)
Super Castlevania Both battle themes/Dracula stage
Megaman X/X2
Sonic 1,2,3
Killer Instinct Eyedol(Especially the Killer Cuts version)
X-Men:COTA Magneto

Final boss music in Metroid, the "Tourian" music. It's not particularly memorable, but god it is fitting.

"The End of a Thought" from Tales of Symphonia, or the
vs. Kratos fight music. I loved how it interloped his theme into the music.

"Deceitful Wings" from Atelier Iris Eternal Mana. I've never played the game, but I love that song so much.

Same with "Tomorrow of Promise" from Neorude 2, which I doubt anyone here has even heard of.

Both boss themes from Ikaruga, "Butsutekkai" and "The Stone-Like". Fabulous.

Can I count "Emperor Breath", the story level 8 music from F-Zero GX? I really always enjoyed that track.

That one, then it turns into like SNES metal.
While I really loved that entire battle, the best part for me was probably when it shifts into the static (part two of the fight) and then shifts back between that and that hopeful-sounding music whenever Paula prays for help, while the static stays in the background.

God I loved Earthbound.

One Winged Angel
Jon Irenicus Theme (BG2)
Seifer Theme (maybe not boss but it rocks!)
Meta Ridley (M. Prime)
...
BOWSER!

Yeah, Sakuraba does that often with battle themes. He makes an antagonist's main theme into his or her battle theme. He does this another time in ToS, deriving It Can Waver and Fight from
Mithos'
theme, and he also does the same with Agatio and Karst's battle theme.

I love it when he does that. :D

The boss theme from Turtles In Time/Hyperstone Heist was pretty awesome. The Super Shredder boss them was even better.

One Winged Angel and Snake Eater...no other choices are necessary, IMO :D

Honourable mentions to Metroid Prime, MGS, Fable, and Wind Waker. But none of those come close to the impact and awe of MGS3 and FF7's music

Man, the ganondorf battle would have been PERFECT if it was an actual battle, and not some kind of interactive cutscene. :(

The rain, the music, seeing Ganondorf pull out those swords for the first time, omg.

Memory is shady, but I liked fighting Bowser at the end of Mario 64. Fun stuff.

And the last boss of Shinobi for PS2. Sure I yelled every explicitive that was in my vocabulary for 4 hours in front of my friends and family but I beat it. Great feeling!

All 4 fight songs from FF4. Favorite regular fight, 'super boss' fight, and last boss fight song in the series.

QFT.

FF4's "normal" battle music is still my favorite to this day.

Other favorite "boss battle music" includes:

- Actraiser (Fillmore boss theme)
- Gaiares (several, but the Grim Reaper boss theme in particular)
- Thunderforce 3 (a few, but the lava stage boss theme especially)
- Streets of Rage 1 and 2
- Castlevania 4 (I forget the name/situation)
- Super Metroid
- Phantasy Star 2 (Mother Brain theme)
- Sonic 1 (main boss theme)
- FF6 (boss battle theme)

Wow, I thought I was the only one :D. You know what was great? This program called Super Jukebox that played SNES music files(.spc)...the latest version I had had a checkbox next to each audio channel, so you could play the tune, and take out/add in channels. I played that tune to death, doing the "minimalistic" thing, then layering in other channels at certain parts(now just the horns! now just the bass&drums!), etc...too bad the damn thing seems to always crash under XP(and no way in hell i'm going back to millenium edition).

Wow, that sounds pretty cool. :) I've only heard about Super Jukebox; I never downloaded it. You're aware of the SNESamp plug-in for winamp, though, right? It allows you to play .spc files. There's a site that has an archive of the original .spc audio files for nearly every SNES game ever produced, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here.

And no, you're not the only one-- my best friend loves that tune as well. "Tellah's theme" is another one of my favorites, as well as the main overworld theme.

Someone finally mentioned something from ChronoCross, but I have a different favorite from that game - the battle with F.A.T.E. I absolutely LOVE the music to that battle!

Yep, I have that installed, as well as nsf for NES files and PSF for playstation files(only got it for tales of destiny actually)...and i know the site you're referring to ;)

Super Jukebox just kicked ass for the channel selection feature though...changing things on the fly was fun as hell.

Space Channel 5: "Giant Evila" to "Blank TV: Ulala's Support Chant".

It worked really well because while fighting (dancing?) Giant Evila the sound system cuts out and completely fucks one up while playing. Oh teh nos, Ulala, what shall you do?!

With the stage set, Jaguar and his Space Pirates come in and begin a capella version of Space Channel 5's themesong "Mexican Flyer", and get Ulala back into the groove. Soon enough, Giant Evila is dead-it and Chief Blank sends Ulala into the Blank Dimension. By this time the instrumentals agument the voices and all of the people thus far rescued join in by shouting out Ulala's counter moves.

One of the most "uplifting" endgames I've played in videogames.
