I'm looking for a good Chess game for the PC so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Fritz is known to be good and it's cheap. The presentation is sub-par, but the engine is one of the best out there.

Unless you are master-ranked or higher (in which case you probably already know this), there's no point in paying money for commercial software, since there are a number of freeware programs that will easily wipe the floor with you.

I'd look at this page for starters. (If you have a Mac, I strongly recommend Sigma Chess.)

For sheer fun, you can't go wrong with Battle Chess. An oldy, but a goody ^_^

Chessmaster is amazing... the tutorials by Josh on it are second to none and not only teach you a great deal but are very entertaining.

You can get an older version of it incredibly cheap and they are just as good as the new 10th edition imo.
