Fork 'em, Sparky!
I`ll start:

Nada Surf - Where is My Mind?
Nada Surf - I`m Sick of You
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
Metallica - Turn the Page

These covers made hearing these formerly unbearable-to-listen-to-again songs bearable again.

Wasn't this just done? :P

Anyway, I really like NIN's covers:

Get Down Make Love (queen)
Physical (adam ant)
Metal (Gary Numan)
Dead Souls (Joy Division)

Jimi hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
Led Zeppelin - In My time of Dying
Rage Against The Machine - Microphone Fiend

Gene Simmons - Firestarter (but only for laughs :lol )

White Zombie - Children of the Grave

it almost sounds as if the song was made especially for them

Failure - Enjoy The Silence, Just What I Needed

"Just What I Needed" was actually covered by The Replicants, but the band was made up of two members from Failure (Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards) and sounds almost identical to Failure.

Pearl Jam - Fuckin' Up
Mad Caddies - SOS
Johnny Cash - Heart Of Gold
Ghoti Hook - True Faith

My WORST cover of all time: XIU XIU - Ceremony

Where Is My Mind was unbearable to listen to until Nada Surf did a cover? I don't even have an insult great enough to fully describe your horrible taste.

Urge Overkill: Girl, You'll Be A Women Soon.
The Pixies: Head On.
Anything at all in Dread Zeppelin's catalogue.
Laibach: Sympathy For The Devil.
RHCP: Higher Ground

(I also agree with Mason, May a pox visit your ears and all the ears of your progeny AlteredBeast ;) )

you`ve misunderstood me. I had listened to that song so much my ears WERE bleeding, then I found the cover and it gave the song new life.

Same with the rest. With the exception of AAtW, I had heard way too much of the originals and then the covers came around and THANK YOU!

I don`t know if that`s supposed to be an insult or a slam, but I couldn`t really care. I just am looking for songs to build up a library for when I put up the radio station. I plan on having a weekly covers show, but really don`t know too many covers as I`d like.

It was a compliment, on a great save :P

311- Love Song
Guns N Roses - Live and Let Die
Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends
Johnny Cash - Hurt
Tool - No Quarter
A Perfect Circle - When The Levee Breaks, Imagine, People are People
Zeppelin - When the Levee Breaks
Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World

Furillo's cover of Europe's The Final Countdown. Too bad the band broke up. :(

Flight 180's I Wanna Be Like You from The Jungle Book.

Harry Gregson-Williams cover of the Metal Gear theme for MGS2 still rocks my world.

Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World(I just recently heard the original and now appreciate how good Nirvana's version is)
It's My Life - No Doubt
Stand & Deliver - Sugar Ray
7 Nation Army - Audioslave
Goldfinger - 99 Red Ballons

Isn't Nada Surf's cover of "Where Is My Mind?" essentially the same as the original?

Anyway, here are some good ones:

Kaiser Chiefs- Heard It Through the Grapevine
Decemberists- Bridges and Balloons
Decemberists- Human Behavior
Ted Leo- Since U Been Gone
TV On the Radio- Mr. Grieves
Polyphonic Spree- Wig in a Box
The Futureheads- Hounds of Love
Mates of State- Starman
Phantom Planet- Our House
Okkervil River- Black Sheep Boy
Stars- This Charming Man
Ben Kweller- BK Baby (Ice Ice Baby)

The Pet Shop Boys' "Always on my Mind" is definitely up there for me, and Technova's "Atmosphere" cover would be perfect if it wasn't for the vocals.

The Mountain Goats - Two-Headed Boy

It gets almost as much listening as the original, which says a lot.

Yeah for Mountain Goats love! As good as that cover is, I am still partial to his cover of Ace of Base's "The Sign". Especially live, where he threatens to open fire on the crowd if everyone doesn't sing the chorus...like they do here.

Sonic Youth - Superstar
Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane
The Sundays - Wild Horses
Squarepusher - Love Will Tear Us Apart
Judy Collins - Both Sides Now

Fatboy Slim - The Joker

Listening to the original, although the lyrics are great, I'm not too fond of the off-key sinigng. Fatboy slims is great.

Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night
Loona - Hijo De La Luna (personal thing :))
Marvin Gaye - Heard It Through The Grapevine

Tool - No Quater!!

Best covers I can think of...

Marvin Gaye - Heard It Through The Grapevine
Van Halen - You Really Got Me (particularly when it's preceded by Eruption)
Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends

Marilyn Manson: Sweet Dreams + Down in the Park + Personal Jesus
Stone Temple Pilots: Dancing Days
Bile: My Generation
White Zombie: Children of the Grave
Shadows Fall: Welcome to the Machine
NiN: I'm Afraid of Americans
Dope: You Spin Me Right Round

:)

Bah, they butchered the song, IMO. If you want a good version of No Quarter, try the one on Page & Plant Unledded, technically not a cover, as the two of them were in the band the first time around, but a much more interesting variation of the song than any cover I've come across.

Although, if you're looking for a cover, and want to stick to the Zeppelin theme, try Plant's cover of Hey Joe off his album Dreamland. Best version of an oft-covered tune, if you ask me.

with all the Grapevine love I thought I'd add Roger and Zapp's "Heard it through the Grapevine"

All along the watchtower, Hey Joe, and Vodoo Chile by Jimi make you forget that other people wrote these songs..

The Roots version of "The Show" was hot as well

Camper Van Beethoven: Pictures of Matchstickmen
Dessau: Isolation
The Housemartins: Each and every one of their covers
Innocence Mission: What a Wonderful World
R.E.M.: Superman
Trash Can Sinatras: To Sir With Love

and even though it's a repeat...
Cowboy Junkies: Sweet Jane

Decemberists - Mr. Blue Sky, Wuthering Heights (<3 Petra Haden)
Electric Six - Radio Ga Ga
Petra Haden & Bill Frisell - I Don't Want To Grow Up
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (of course)
The Bens - I Touch Myself
Ben Folds - Golden Slumbers, In Between Days
Ben Folds Five - She Don't Use Jelly
