Don't forget.

I'm not really into live albums, but this is an incredible one, probably my favorite Metallica album. The only other live album that came to mind is Nirvana Unplugged.

Daft Punk is obvious choice, but I really love Matthew Good live at Massey Hall.

Motorhead - No Sleep Til Hammersmith

They do an amazing version of the song Motorhead, but all the songs on that album are great

My 2 picks are:

Dream Theater: Live Scenes from New York - My favourite DT album played live, with the 25 minute Epic "A Change Of Seasons" (complete with "Simpsons Theme Song" thrown in for good measure)

Dream Theater: Score - Totally bias, but I flew out to NYC from London just for this concert

Indeed amazing on both.

I was at Score as well. :)

He's got tons of other live albums in that achieves series, but this captures Neil at the end of the 70s at the height of his powers. Not a bad track on it, and Crazy horse are on point.

Given the time when they played this concert, the track list couldn't be any better. It's full of energy, and Grohl breathes new life into the Bleach tracks they play. Oh, and it's just a blast to listen to.

I love live music. Most times they're more impressive than any studio album by the same artist.

90% of live albums are re-dubbed/re-performed in the studio (especially in the 70s-80s) to correct mistakes and make them sound "like the album".

Hardly the best, but I always enjoyed this one.

Almost every song on here is better than the album versions.

The Who - Live at Leeds
Pearl Jam MSG (also available on dvd)
Neil Young - Live Rust
Modest Mouse - Baron Von Bullshit Rides Again

My absolute favourite is a band that doesn't get mentioned by music-gaf enough:

Wilco - Kicking Television

Jealous! I've yet to see him, but hopefully next time he makes his rounds, I need to hear Weapon live before I can die happy.

I came to post this. I wrote half of my MSc thesis listening to this album on loop. I prefer a lot of the live versions on this record to the originals on Yankee Foxtrot Hotel and A Ghost is Born.

Now that I have seen The Arcade Fire in concert, Wilco is probably the top on my list of bands to see in the future. Also, new album this Fall!

Off the top of my head:

Johnny Cash - Live At San Quentin
Johnny Cash - Live At Folsom Prison
Otis Redding - Live On The Sunset Strip
Otis Redding - Live In London & Paris
R.L. Burnside - Burnside On Burnside. (It's literally a 75-year-old black guy and his grandson and his neighbor making the blues sound like proto-punk.)
The Clash - From Here To Eternity
The Pogues - Live At The Brixton Academy
John Lee Hooker - Live At Cafe Au Go-Go/Soledad Prison
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - The Live Anthology
Captain Beefheart - I'm Going To Do What I Wanna Do
Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Live At Acton Town Hall*

*I know it's technically a pro-recorded bootleg, but it's half of a Clash reunion and it's just spectacular.

Mono - Holy Ground: NYC Live with The Wordless Music Orchestra

Underworld - Live in Tokyo 2005
