Best Music CD backup software

I hope this isn't breaking the forum piracy rules or anything (if so please lock/delete whatever), but I am definately inquiring for non-evil intentions.

I like to keep backups of my CD's in my car incase they get scratched/ lost/ whatever, but half my CD's usually end up sounding like cheap + distorted crap. I'm wondering if anyone has an oppinion on what's the best way to backup a music CD? Any program in particular, is it best to rip to a high bit-rate mp3 then burn that? Thanks GAF.

nero + copy disc.....

or get itunes and store your whole library on a computer, then burn a music CD off if you ever lose one. the copied disc will be essentially the original, but I can never distinguish a cd burned in itunes from a real one. I guess I'm not indie enough or something.

Why not just use Nero and the Copy Disc option?

I think I've tried this with mediocre results. I'll try it again since I've already got it... Maybe I screwed something up before.

There's quite a few topics on this. Try searching the forum for "mp3".

I couldnt find anything for specifically making music CD's... The MP3 threads I saw were mainly for ripping music. Although if someone's already discussed making music CD's from mp3's, and I just missed it, go ahaed and call me lazy and point me to it. :)

Also, is there a chance it's your media? Maybe the CDs you're burning onto are subpar and screwing up in your car

EAC is too complicated. : (

I want to encode LAME MP3's into VBR 320, but how the hell do I do that? How do I tag the files also?

Do you mean like MP3 track/artist name tags? If so I use this program called audiograbber... it's really nice for identifying CD's, and ripping. I think you can set it up with lame to do what you want. Also, it looks like it's freeware now (didn't used to be). So see if that's what you need.

Bottom line, if you're encoding to MP3 at all, you are a dumbass if you don't use the LAME encoder. Use it. Love it. It's a free encoder, and there's lots of support for it. Don't even consider using other encoders.

Use LAME v3.96.1 though. Generally accepted to be the best version in terms of encoding quality/speed of encoding.
