Then neither is Link...
wrong. Link has nothing more than grunts and screams, no actual articulation of words. Mario says many things.

So Super Metroid isn't a real METROID game either?
exactly. samus speaks at the beginning of SM. I completely forgot about that to be honest. so i guess I'll have to scrap my nomination of her from my previous post, heh

"The last metroid is in capativity. The galaxy is at peace."

and even if that isn't meant to be Samus' voice, it's most definitely her written dialogue soon after that.

NESS. Although recently its come to my attention that Ness may have spoken one line of Dialog in Earthbound. Shocking if true, I must research further.

Edit: NOOOOOOOOOO Much to may dismay, Ness does say one single line of dialog in EarthBound. DISQUALIFIED!!! The line can be easily missed. Randomly, when Ness calls his mother, he interupts her and say something like "wait, I know what your going to say. its greay to have such a wonderful son" his Mother replies" oh, yea honey, you're a hero, gotta go CLICK"'

Which Breath of fires did Ryu speak in. I know he spoke in 4 and 5, but not sure about the rest.

Really? I am just replaying EB now, but I don't think I've seen him talk yet. There's the part in Lumine Hall where his thoughts show up on the wall, but that's it so far.

Samus talks in Metroid Fusion.
Most of the stuff Samus says could be interpreted as internal monologue (elevator and most of the ending). And the bit of voice at the beginning of Super Metroid can be counted just as narration. Whoever thinks Samus should be voice by Dan Owsen should be shot. :p

And Link says two things in Adventure of Link:
"I found a mirror under the table" and "I can enter this fireplace", though neither of those can really count.

And it's obvious that the portable Links are the best:

I prefer the first one myself

Ryu is silent in 1-4 and has a bit of dialogue in Dragon Quarter. 4 and 5 are the best Ryus as well.

My personal favourite silent character (other than the ones already listed):
Simon Belmont

I can't for the life of me remember if he had any text in the ending of Simon's Quest or not but I don't care. And the changing of day in SQ can be interpreted as either internal monologue or narration :P
