Best Super Hero game on a console?

Best Super Hero game on a console?? My interest in this came up upon seeing the Batman thread..

I still think Marvel vs. Capcom series has yet to be topped.... Both versions were superb

There's been a lot of fun ones, and the first choice is the obvious one. But...I'd like to give a vote to X-Men Legends because even though the game isn't perfect, the amount of characters, powers, and type of game make it the greatest use of a comic franchise to me. I cannot wait for the sequel.

Batman for the NES by Sunsoft was an amazing game. Still holds up to this day for me.

Not to mention it had one of the best video game soundtracks ever.

^^ :lol

For real though? Adventures of Batman and Robin on SNES

The best superhero game and the best batman game IMO. Not only does it capture the look and sound of the cartoon, but it's fun to play, with varried gameplay and a decent challenge. Not only is it a good superhero game, but it's just a great game in general.

The Genesis version was a technical marvel with art elements from the shows creators (Timm?), but it's too repetitive.

And yes, the NES Batman game was awesome. I was only able to beat it once. And we all thought it was the most awesome thing seeing the digitized batman logo on the NES.

Batman: The Movie on the Amiga. Incredibly well done at the time, and the driving/flying portions still hold up today. Good stuff.

No love for Spiderman 2?

That was a very fun ride at least for me

I even finished the filler mission (the second day of your life) :lol

Spider-Man 2 was the best for me.

Loved the free form ability to cruise all over New York. Yes, I am a Spider fanboy, but it don't think it clouds my judgment on what is fun and what is not. A lot of other Spidey games have completely sucked, including the first movie game.

I got my Spider-Man completely upgraded. It's a great feeling booking ass across town. The pendulum physics were really cool.

Has Spidey 2 dropped to $20 yet? I haven't been keeping up. I am anticipating having a good time with that one, though. But, my vote goes to:

It's on sale for $15 at Best Buy this week, I believe.

A little off the console path.... but this game needs to get some love just for sheer awsomeness.

X-men vs. SF for the Saturn.... drooooool. A favorite in my collection for sure.

No contest, thread over....

Spider-man: The Movie for Xbox. Better combat then it's sequels, better voice-acting, The kick-ass AERIAL COMBAT, and not to mention a certain secret character which plays completely different from Spidey. Kickass.

Not to mention SPIDEY BOWLING!

Tough call... for me it a toss up between Sunsoft's Batman on NES, Konami's TMNT4 on SNES and Capcom's X-Men Vs Street Fighter on Saturn. Too bad superhero games have practically outpriced themselves from Japanese development... I wouldn't mind seeing Kojima's take on Batman or Kayima handle the X-Men.

I wish that xmen vs. street fighter and marvel super heroes vs. street fighter had been ported to the Dreamcast. I only got to play the former in the arcade... I also dug the xmen:children of the atom game in arcades. I could whoop ass with psylocke in that.

I really like Batman for the NES, made by Hudson Soft. (I think)

Of couse it could be nostalgia talking: but they did have the classic " Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight" line.

Batman on the GameBoy from Kemco.

Damnit I thought I might have been the first one to mention this. I still remember loving this game after I played it at that NintendoCon show or whatever where you competed in Tetris and Mario Bros. and stuff just like in 'The Wizard'.

Sunsoft's Batman on the Genesis:

EA's Multi-Platform Batman Begins:

Those are the three best Batman games ever made.

I can't believe people are saying Spider-Man 2. That game is the perfect example of the "lazy developer syndrome" where they rely on GTA-style freedom and horribly boring missions that you do over and over and over instead of actually putting a narrative story to drive you through the gameworld. Sure, swinging around was AWESOME; but not $50 AWESOME. A game needs more than just that to be a great game.

Thats EXACTLY how I feel. The swinging was great, but after a few hours of playing you start to get the feeling that 95% of the dev time went to the swinging gameplay :lol

If I hear ONE more old lady crying about her purse or a little kid crying about his balloon, I will go CRAZY!

Not so hot side-scrolling segments (same as the Genesis/MegaDrive version), but the driving segments and soundtrack were awesome!

I am beginning to wonder if you guys even advanced the story. It wasn't just about the random events that happened in the game. There was a plot line to further as well.

I will admit, it did get repetitive as far as the random missions went.

As far as a Spider-Man game, it recreated being Spider-Man better than any other previous Spider-Man game.

sunsoft batman for the Genesis.. you NES fans don't know what you were missing by hanging out on that 8-bit past its life machine.

Yup Sunsoft Genesis Batman >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sunsoft NES Batman

I have a lot of favorites. As time marches onwards, a few still stand out because they are still fun.

First, Spider-Man VS Kingpin on Sega CD. It has more levels, better moves & animation, and faster gameplay than its Genesis brother, plus the now-standard 'find all of ITEM X in the levels'. In this case, classic comic book covers!

Adventures of Batman & Robin on Genesis will always hold its place as a favorite -- great tie-ins with the animated show & filled to the seams with fast & tough pattern-based gameplay.

Batman Returns on the Sega CD is an all-time fave of mine. I have always enjoyed the 2D platforming Genesis levels, but the driving levels -- as anyone who experienced it back in the day can attest -- are phenomenally fun. Good CD audio and don't-blink sewers/batskiboat levels and FUN vehicle bosses.

Batman Returns on SNES is a great Final-Fight style game, great effort here & still quite challenging & fun.

Past these three, almost every other one was fun for a while but grew boring quickly. I'm looking forward to Batman Begins, the new Hulk one, and the (gulp!) Fantastic Four one!

Don't make me come over there. Questprobe #1: The Hulk came out the same fricking year as Infocom brought us Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Sorceror. Let's make a quick comparison between the quality of these games, shall we? Like say, looking at the opening scenes...

Hulk:
I'm Bruce Banner, tied hand & foot to a chair.

Command me? LOOK

I see Nothing special

I'm Bruce Banner, tied hand & foot to a chair.

Command me? STAND UP

I can't do that...yet!

Command me? ROCK CHAIR

I fall & hit head! I'm the Incredible Hulk (Tm) now! Rope Breaks! Some gas fills room & permeates my skin! I'm Bruce Banner now!

Command me? EXAMINE GAS

I see Nothing special

I am in a dome. Visible: Mirror. Broken chair. *Gem. Metal Hand Fan. Large iron ring set in floor. Sign.

Some exits: EAST

Command me?

HHGTTG:

You wake up. The room is spinning very gently round your head. Or at least it would be if you could see it which you can't.

It is pitch black.

> open eyes
They are.

> turn on light
Good start to the day. Pity it's going to be the worst one of your life. The light is now on.

Bedroom, in the bed
The bedroom is a mess.
It is a small bedroom with a faded carpet and old wallpaper. There is a washbasin, a chair with a tatty dressing gown slung over it, and a window with the curtains drawn. Near the exit leading south is a phone.
There is a flathead screwdriver here. (outside the bed)
There is a toothbrush here. (outside the bed)

> get toothbrush
You can't reach it from the bed. The effort almost kills you.

> stand up
Very difficult, but you manage it. The room is still spinning. It dips and sways a little.

> get toothbrush
It slips through your fumbling fingers and hits the carpet with a nerve-shattering bang.
