Best tennis game on PS2?

OT, but is Top Spin for XBox any good?

Anyway why would you want anything else besides Virtua Tennis? :P

I just thought that there's most likely a better game out by now, Sega Sports Tennis came out when, 2002? And that was just a minor update on an even older game... Whoa.

Smash Court 2 is first, VT is second (roughly even with Smash Court 1 for me).

SmashCourt series and VT are also the ONLY tennis games worth playing on PS2 (and I've tried quite a few others).

Ok, arguably, if you're into that kind of thing, Love Smash might be endurable, for looking at the skimpy dressed clones of DOA girls. Although you are probably better off by getting Love PingPong instead, it's same kind of nonsense just that the graphics got about 100x better.

In terms of pure playability, Top Spin is the best tennis game this generation. Just make sure you have friends and an Xbox Live account.

Sega ppl will not agree but Top Spin is the best Tennis game this gen. This is coming from someone who was the huge Virtua Tennis fan.

Okay, Top Spin has better graphics and 10x more realistic ball physics.

Top Spin lacks any fun modes to go through, however.

Top spin is terrible and ugly 30fps. Smash Court 2 is where its at with 60fps goodness. Better anamation and control too.

Well the Actual Tennis is more fun but i agree VT has much better practice modes.

Top Spin is shit. Since when was adding 10 buttons and a meter to everything, good? :lol

VT2 is the best on PS2.

Has Sega said anything about VT on the PSP? Only it's just that GameCentral (UK teletext daily gaming pages), had a news thing a month back saying Sega had confirmed it. Now usually GC are usually careful to distinguish between news and rumour, but I haven't heard anything anywhere else about this.

I think it would be a very good move, seeing how VT combines pick and playness with a deeper career mode, and is made for WiFi mulitplayer, but, well, it's Sega.

It's all about the unlockable Namco characters to play as in Smash Court Tennis 2.

Which Namco characters? *intrigued*
-Cassandra Alexandra
-Heihachi Mishima(sorry no Jin Kazama for you :P)
-Ling Xiaoyu
-Raphael Sorel

I'm not sure if Klonoa and Pacman are still unlockable characters.

And previous SC featured that recent MotoGP Race girl as unlockable character. You know, the one that actually looked cute (in a robot kinda way) as opposed to the well... that one... from RidgeRacers. :P

Playing as Raphael is pretty funny too.

VT2 is the best on PS2.
Don't forget about the horribly long load times on Top Spin. Since were not talking just Ps2 games, how is Mario Tennis?

Those are some awesome Namco characters to unlock in Smash Court! Surprised Klonoa didn't make the cut. I figured he would be standard by now.

I hate to say this at this point in time, but come on EA. This is one genre seriously lacking. How about a tennis game that has at least the top 15 in mens, a deep career mode, and International Series, Masters Series, and the Majors for every calendar year. I think the Rugby genre gets more love here in the US than tennis.

Whats up with virtua tennis anyway? I think I heard a long while ago that, Sega was working on a sequel?

No news?

during one of the recent team reorganizations within sega, when Mie Kumagai was named CEO of Hitmaker she said she wanted to continue the line of tennis games... but that was about it I think. I think this was late 2003 or something.

I was hoping Top Spin would be a significant improvement over Tennis 2k2, but I came away very dissapointed. Added some things I thought was stupid, and ruined the gameplay, so 2k2 is still my fav. But I'm a "Sega ppl".

Wrong. Top Spin is 60fps. 30fps only during cut-scenes. I would have thought a racing fan like yourself was more familiar with framerates.
