The first NES Turtles game was great as an action/adventure, but for sheer "OMG!" factor, the best one HAS to be the original TMNT: The Arcade Game. Awesome graphics and sound to go along with 4 player action. Was there ever a truly faithful home port made?

the NES conversion of the original arcade (the second NES TMNT game) was incredible given the massive, massive difference between NES and the board that drove the arcade game.

there was no truly faithful home port made, as far as I know, unless the original arcade was unlockable in one of the recent turtles games for PS2, Xbox. but I think it was the Turtles in Time arcade included in the recent PS2, Xbox TMNT, not the first arcade game.

edit: I was wrong. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus for PS2 and Cube have the original 1989 arcade game as an unlockable. I imagine its pretty faithful to the actual arcade game, if not exact.

I heard they raped it of it's original music and replaced it with something crappy. Can anyone confirm?

Last boss fight vs. Shredder in TMNT Arcade is one of the most awesome battles in old-school beat-em-ups. There's a small homage to it (or, should I say, the NES version of it) in the recent TMNT1 for PS2/GC/XB.

I agree that the arcade game is the best. However I cannot BELIEVE there's no love for TMNT Tournament Fighters on the SNES!! That was a kick ass game by Konami!! I didn't see it mentioned anywhere.

I really dont understand how people are posting TMNT 2 for NES. Maybe they never got around to the arcades..but this thread ends with this..

Well the arcade version I played was a couple of levels shorter than the NES version. For me, the arcade version was quite a disappointment.

Arcade 1989

Yup.

And the arcade version is shorter..they added those boring extra levels to the NES version while taking at least 1 level out of the arcade (unless the NES one had the skateboard level..been a long time).

That Fall of the Foot Clan one was fun too though, but too short.

The NES version had all the arcade levels, skateboard level included. And the extra levels in the NES version were at least as good as better ones in the the arcade version imo.

Yeah, Tournament Fighters was a great SF2 alternative back in the day.

NES TMNT1 gets my vote, if only because it used a fun, relatively unique gameplay system that for some reason nobody has ever tried to rip off.

Yes... for... some reason. Unfathomable, really. Nay,

Inconceivable.

agreed, loved the arcade game and I'll share some of the Tournament fighters love... many an afternoon was spent playing it with friends... Aura Crusher... Aura Crusher...

Heh, TMNT1 had three gauntlets you had to survive in order to beat it. The dam which isn't really THAT hard once you learn it enough to complete it with just one turtle getting trashed up from the kelp screen. The two rooms at the end of Stage 4 you had to fall down through with insta-kill spike walls that close in.... *shudder* Then pretty much all of the technodrome, but especially one corridor where you had zero room to maneuver and spaceman after spaceman get sent after you... there's a trick though so it's not as bad as Stage 4's hell.

...and Shredder's a pansy if you have tons of scrolls on hand.

EDIT: Oh yeah, there was also the rope crossings... haha that game was a bitch. :(
