Ok, so I used to play BF all the time. I just re-installed BF1942, Road to Rome and Secret Weapons. Then I went to the official site and got 2 updates/patches. One was like 7.8 megs or something, and the other was 270 megs or something. Version 6.01 or 6.04 something like that...

Now when I go to play online... almost EVERY single game is greyed out and tells me to update, and then there are some, like 5 that I don't have to have the updates for. So here is my question. Did I install the right updates patches? If so or if not... either way... can somebody please lead me in the right direction as to what update I need?

I downloaded and installed these patches...

battlefield_1942_incremental_patch_v1.6_to_v1.61b.exe
battlefield_1942_patch_v1.6.19.exe

Are those the right ones?

1) Make sure you downloaded the right patch- there's one for users and one for people who run servers. They're right next to each other, so it's easy to mistake them.

2) Make sure you don't have any other patches installed (ie you didn't re-install older patches after you re-installed the game). Then make sure you open the large patch first and then the small one. Also be sure that the big patch you downloaded is not an incremental one, but the pure/full version.

I just re-installed BF1942 a week ago, so I know what you have to go through.

No, see, you don't want the incremental patch. Incremental patches are for people who've been downloading every new small patch that's came out over the years. Since you uninstalled all your BF stuff, that means all the small patches were wiped.

You want to download this one:

Battlefield 1942 1.6 Download Links (274 MB)

Then, after you've installed it, download and install this one:

1.6 Update

Just make sure you delete anything you've installed before you do this and you should be fine.

But still... those are the same ones I downloaded... you basically linked me to the same things. Right? Because when I went to download, it says I already have them, and if i wanted to replace them?

But I'll install the big one first again, and then re-install the small update...

Hm. You should be good to go if you downloaded the 1.619 patch and then the incremental 1.6-1.61b patch. Try reinstalling those two patches. Also you did install punkbuster and everything right? I just reinstalled BF1942 as well and I'm not having any real problems. Well I couldn't get DC to work but then I realized I needed to install the DC 1.7 patch then DC final. Full client my ass.

Dc and DCF are actually 2 different mods if you go do some research about it, or just look in your mods folder and you'll see something interesting.

Bleh just the way on fileplanet lists it as, Desert Combat Final Client [Full], threw me off. I sat here for 10 mins wondering why the hell I was crashing to the desktop everytime the game was trying to load. =(

Ok got it all working...

Another issue...

I just play Secret Weapons because it's the latest, but I cannot see any maps from Road to Rome in the map list at all... yet I have Road To Rome installed and everything.

In fact, I don't think I even saw any Secret Weapon Maps... maybe like 1... I'll have to check out the map list online... I thought that if you played Secret Weapons... you could use all the maps... guess not...

I play on ATF's Hump em n Dump em. Tends to cycle the best maps, good clan operates from there. Occationally locked.

Dont think that all those maps from Secret Weapons and Road to Rome are backwards compatible. But anywayz, maybe time to start off playing Desert Combat 0.7/Final in preparation (bad english??) for Battlefield 2 ????
