Big Warp Pipe Tech/Demasked changes?

So in browsing the Warp Pipe forums today I found some interesting changes.

The smallest of the two is the addition of the DS' Two Window design to the Warp Pipe logo banner.

Nothing huge on its own...

Then add the fact that the "Warp Pipe is not endorsed or affiliated with Nintendo" disclaimer has been removed from their website.

The only place any disclaimer still exists is in an old Terms of Service for the forums, that may or may not be an oversight, as the disclaimer was recently removed from every other page on the site.

So has WPT been aquired by Nintendo?

Is this a licensing deal?

Is Demasked Nintendo's ONLINE experiment to pave the way for Revolution, and try to make up for the HUGE folly that was GAmecube's lack of an online program.

I spoke with their project lead a while back. He said they were independantly funded and would continue to be so until they began to seek out some venture capital in early 2005. He wouldn't give me many more details than that, but I got the strong impression that they wanted to remain independant. It should be obvious they're working on DS wireless connectivity, but I want to quash rumors that Nintendo has scooped them up right now.

What gag? They;ve had the disclaimer ever since opening....long before any hint of Demasked.

Not sure I see your connection.

EDIT:

I've been in contact with Chad Paulsen on and off as well and can confirm their claims of independance. But why else would they purposely lose the disclaimer? Its not like they had a site re-design beyond the new logo.

Exactly, they're aren't being funded by Nintendo... but they are making an online something for the DS.

No backwards lyrics? I'm dissapointed.

I hope that this demasked thing turns out to be golden, but I wish the ilovebees shit would stop.

I hope chad can make demasked live up to the hype he created :/

I'm still curious as to what this is.

Maybe they just didn't need to have the disclaimer anymore for any legal reason, so they just dropped it?

What would have changed to allow for this? You could very well be right but I can't come up with any way for this to happen. They make a product that only works on Nintendo products. Hell they have a Warp Pipe as a logo. They need to let people know they are not Nintendo, for Nintendo's protection, right?

Hell I'm not a lawyer, who knows?

Maybe nothing changed. Maybe they had the disclaimer there to be safe, and now they've learned they don't need to?

*shrug*

Or (shock), maybe Nintendo does actually endorse them now. They can still be financially independent, but if Nintendo approves the project, they will be able to put official DS / GC logos on it somewhere down the line.

This sounds plausible. People were speculating (me included) that chad and the rest of the warp pipe team created some kind of software (this could be warp pipe itself) that impressed Nintendo at E3 or after and that is why they are now working on this DS project.

I say give us the facts instead of this mystery crap. It got old the first time around when it was hyped to hell and then Warppipe failed to deliver any other news than a shitty Demasked logo design.

Actually that was old. And doesn't have date in it anywhere. Its a listing of Pings and game connected/disconnected.

I ran out of patience for mystery as well long ago. This post is an observation. Not part of the "great mystery"

+1

I still don't even fucking understand what their gah-damn role would be in some kind of online stuff. Can't Nintendo and third-party developers run their own servers? And even if they didn't, they could easily get someone else to do it.

just to clarify, they can drop the nintendo disclaimer if they are licensed by nintendo. they don't need to be scooped up by nintendo, they just need to apply for and receive official licensing from them. Hence they are affiliated.

If we foot the bill, then yes.

I can make a Nintendo site without a disclaimer. Really, I can. And I won't be sued, believe it or not.

And how exactly would this be any different? It's not going to pay for itself.

And if it's paid by advertising, there are PLENTY of services out there like that already.

you could be sued... someone could make a claim against nintendo using your site as the reason and nintendo could sue you under all sorts of ip protection laws. I mean they could do it other ways but that would be the most common. hence why sites have the disclaimers.

That's one of the interesting things that is part of this project. It is free.

There are a few ways to make this possible, but it has been speculated to death in the past.

Free...with advertising. Or some other catch. It's not even worth speculating, because there's GOING to be a catch. Services aren't free, and Nintendo has already said it's not putting up the cash, so that's why I don't understand why people are excited about this at all.

I'm sure there is a catch, too. I just want to see what it is now since it was hyped as the second coming of christ for awhile there.
