I don't know what to believe at this point. CVXFREAK seems pretty convinced. Frankly, I felt better about the story when it didn't seem like it was connected to anything that took place in the past RE games. I'm this is some kind of joke or a stab at other games that try to pull the rug out from under the gamer and only succeeded at being cheesy.

Good thing I don't plan on playing RE4 for the storyline. That bunk I just read makes Paul Andersons RE movies look like a stroke of genious.

Wesker being a robot is sort of good. The explination for his return always bugged me. One of the worst ever in a game.
Umbrella being part of the government doesn't surprise me a bit. I've been saying forever that they wouldn't really be dead and you'd get a non-ending where they set out to destroy umbrella for good this time!!!! Just like every other RE game....
Barry being a traitor makes no sense and worst of all, they already did that in RE1 and then resolved it. How are they going to explain this? He must have turned after RE3, but I don't see why he would.

Well Steve was a corpse by the end of Code: Veronica, Wesker took his body back to H.C.F just to extract the T-Veronica virus
As for Umbrella Inc, each title after RE3 has depicted their gradual downfall. The last title, Resident Evil: Dead Aim, took place in 2002 that concluded with the US & Chinese Governments about take action against the company after the incidents that take place within the game. So in effect, RE4 would be the conclusion to that event.
I can understand Mikami wiping them way and starting with a clean slate. That way the mystery is back in the series, which has been lacking since RE1 as every title has been predictable as the last that always involves an Umbrella lab that leaks the T-Virus infecting it's employees and having the player fight countless zombies and B.O.Ws before reaching the lab and having the ever resourceful self destruct mechanism finish things off and the character vowing to "make Umbrella pay!".
It's just lame that we had like 60 games where the ending was you escaping in a chopper saying "Umbrella won't get away with this! LEt's go finish this once and for all!" and instead of FINALLY getting that they've gone and had Umbrella get theirs off screen. Basically they built to something since 1997 and are not paying it off.
And what I mean by Wesker's revival being lame is that it's hard to buy that he had it all planned when playing RE1.

Probably because it wasn't originally planned. Wesker's revival seemed more like a gimmicky effort to attract the attention of RE fans towards, and purchasing Code: Veronica for the Dreamcast...and it worked.

Uh dudes, I have no idea what has gone on, but I haven't posted anything on PGC since my last review (which was Paper Mario RPG). I've been on a bit of a holiday, as it were.
So while I go and sort this crap out (and read the thread) I can tell you right now two things:
a) I haven't posted anything on PGC, in anyone's name let alone my own
b) I haven't even played Biohazard 4 yet
