The first Bioshock is one of my favorite games ever, in day 1 for this

I retract my statement with the caveat that the slew of recent Remasters doesn't sit well with me. New ideas are the only thing that will push the medium forward.
Bioshock comes awful close to being a perfect game. That last boss is a real trash pile, but then again, so is the Shodan fight in System Shock 2. Aside from that, I don't think there is a better narrative achievement in games than Bioshock. Gripping from the very first moment, and while the twist isn't exactly shocking (again, like System Shock 2,) it's delivered with a storytelling bravado that shames most of the AAA industry. Big Daddies remain a compelling enemy. The weapons are diverse and mostly useful. Great level layouts. Absolutely beautiful game.
Less said about Infinite, the better.

I just don't see how anyone could think that. Disregarding the story and all of the dressing the gameplay itself is so, so bad. There is absolutely no depth to it, most of the vigors do the same thing, you just grab a weapon when you see it, shoot spongey rushdown enemies and then spend the rest of the fight trying to find health packs and ammo until Elizabeth throws you something.

I don't disagree. It was a fantastic game. First game was still the best for me. For many people, they felt the game had far too much emphasis on combat and the enemies being nothing more than cheap bullet sponges.
My only disappointment was that the DLC took us back to Rapture instead of keeping us in Columbia. I felt that city had many more stories to tell.
I personally believe the original to be the best, but I agree that the game too much hate. I loved it, but to each his own.
Free upgrade on PC? Nice.
I have physical of Bio1 & Bio2 as well as Steam copies on PC (thanks to winning a 2K Games Collection Bingo on GAF years ago). I've yet to play Minerva's Den, so this seems like it will be the perfect time to.
Also I'm on the side that I prefer Infinite to Bio1 in terms of gameplay (par with Bio2).
Bio1 still has my favourite twist in any video game though. That being said, I've no intention of ever replaying Bio1. When I beat the game years ago I thought "I really liked this, but I never want to replay it."

extremely unlikely. UE4 is a world's difference from UE3.
Great game, great story. I think Bioshock edges it out on at least the overall qualify of the voice acting, and I personally think Bioshock tells a more cohesive and coherent story.

Finally! It would've been great if this came out in the summer, but at least it's not too far off. I just don't know if I'll have much time to play it in September since it comes out between Deus Ex and FFXV. Still, Day one for me. I've been wanting to play Minerva's Den for a while now but have been holding off just because of the rumors about this collection.

Any info if this will be a port to UE4? That would be a lot of work, but also solve a lot of issues with BS1 concerning 60fps refresh rate.

I think both Infinite and 2 are better than Bio1 but there isn't really much gap between them in my rankings, I love them all so much.
I think a lot of the hate Infinite gets is from the game being pretty different from what was shown during development. I went on total media blackout for Infinite years before launch so I had zero preconceived notions other than city in the sky.

Sadly, EA are being assholes and aren't into remastering.

I do not expect many more remasters to be announced going forward, we are getting the big hitters now in Bioshock and Skyrim.
You'll get It for free. The Steam version of Bio2 came with Minerva's Den added in free.

I don't understand the logic here. It's not just you it's everyone who complains about remasters. Literally every form of media repackages or remasters content to reach a wider audience for various reasons. Books re release all the time, movies get upgraded with every new format. That doesn't mean new ideas aren't being explored.

By the way, is the consensus that these games actually play well? I think Bioshock 2 has the best shooting, but none of them are an example of a great fps. It works fine, but it's not like it's Destiny or Overwatch, or even CoD.
That's why I never had a problem ranking Infinite so highly, it's my favorite one. Didn't seem any worse gameplaywise than the other 2. Not to the extent people say.
But maybe I'm remembering wrong.

That's true. The voice acting is a pretty goofy in SH2, but in some odd way it kinda adds to the bizarre atmosphere. I think the twist was handled better in SH2, and it certainly wasn't as foreseeable as it was in Infinite. I can't really tell about the first one, as I played it a year later, and had heard a bit too much about it beforehand. It definitely didn't felt as mind-blowing as I was lead to believe. All three of them also drag towards the end, and would have worked better with a shorter endgame sequences, unlike SH2. I do love the audiovisual style of the trilogy though.

I've been itching to play Infinite again - never played the DLC for 2 or Infinitie so I'm totally in to play them all again.
It's a free upgrade for PC. If you don't want to download and play that's your choice.
Not 0% chance but EA have said they don't see the point in releasing remasters so it's unlikely.

The pacing of combat was not on par with the other games. The combat set pieces tried very hard to create open arena style battles, but with a few exceptions, they weren't very interesting. Setting up to take downa big daddie was just not an experience you had in Inifnite.
The exploration also felt very constrained. All the games had a some linearity to them, but Inifinite especially so.
I still loved the story and the ending, but I never replayed it, and have no interest in doing so, while Bioshock 1 I've replayed a coupe of times, and will replay now again once the remaster hits.

If you own them on PC, you'll get the remasters for free. Taking the opportunity to replay atleast Bioshock 1 when it comes out for sure.
