Black Adam - Review Thread

I have a lot of criticisms about this movie but I will focus on the main team for now. Guy with a literal falcon mask looked goofy AF. The guy who was an amalgamation of Deadpool and Giant Man just didn't work for me. Dr. Strange guy and the Cyclone girl were fine in the grand scheme of things. Still no explanation how any of them got their powers as far as I remember except for Dr. Strange guy who was wearing the alien mask and that gave him his powers.

I think some people are saying the movie is good due to lower expectations for DC movies. Was it better than Thor 4? Yes, but that's a very low bar. Movie sucked IMO. And whoever said Superman was a 10 sec cameo lied. More like 5 in the post credit.

Just back from seeing it.

It was okay tbh not amazing but not terrible either.

Felt like they didn't really know what they were doing with Adam though idk just felt all over the show.

Oh and what's with all the slow mo?

Oh and what's with all the slow mo?

It was mostly to show how fast Adam is. Like Superman, he's almost as fast as The Flash. The bedroom brawl scene drops the slow motion for a bit to show how Adam appears to zip around like lightning when watched in real time.

That said, I felt like they relied on slow motion a bit too much for the action scenes.

That kid might be the worst actor I’ve ever seen in anything.

Movie was a pretty fun watch . Definitely enjoyed it more than the last few marvel outings .

I’m down to watch Black Adam and Superman have a DBZ battle .
At some point they literally carried the kid. And every scene he being Carried by the actors around him. I wonder if they got him because he could skateboard.

When he rides in the fight on his skateboard I laughed.

You also have to look at Man of Steel in context... He was Superman for like a day BEFORE Zod and company come ... He hasn't trained to fight people as strong as him. He hasn't trained, PERIOD! And even if he tried to direct the fight elsewhere, Zod was hell bent on killing people... Clark's weakness. Clark had no other choice but to fight Zod in the city and he DID try to mitigate the damage. That was the beginning of Superman. He wasn't a finished product yet.

Superman: The Movie... Clark spent YEARS training with Holo-Zor-El at the fortress of solitude. Man of Steel Clark was only there for a day or so.
That's a screenwriting non-issue. As the writer/director/producer you get to decide the tone of the movie you want, and you then make it work with any story you come up, changing the details as you see fit. Who dictates what situations your characters get into at what point of time in their life but their creator?

You trying to piss off comic readers or what? Lol. Atom smasher predates Deadpool and the falcon dude is literally named hawkman.

I'd like to think any 80's kid like myself knows Hawkman has some history , I mean aside from the race swap (which is fine because the actor was great IMO)

Hmm. I never thought about it that way. Good point.

He did the bare minimum to mitigate any damage. He wasn’t the finished product - he was still petulant as a adult. I hated MoS - no colour as well. I liked the Snyder cut of the JL but everything else he did was crap. We don’u need deconstruction of our childhood heroes.

There have been countless renditions of these characters before that have been 1000X better across the board, but somehow this image just clicks with that part of me that remembers being a little kid watching that show on Saturday morning in 1983 or whatever. What do I have to do to get them to make a film that lives up to the simple joy that this pic conveys?

Saw it this weekend. it was alright. the kid sucked. would have liked the movie much more if it just focused on the trio of kahndaqians. Should have had a backstory for the villian besides the expose of (oh yea, remember that evil dude from the beginning of the film, i'm his ancestor) #1 being someone's ancestor doesn't mean you have to do the exact same shit they did and #2 maybe set that shit up a little better so it comes off as a good reason to do what you're doing instead of 30 minutes left in the film. Give backstory for the mother, dr. fate, and hawkman. Hawkman and Dr. Fate from the comics never work with Waller (at least i can't think of any time they did) so maybe give us a little reason why they and waller know each other and are working together.

i enjoyed Adam's arc. i don't see why they tried to hide his face in the backstory, though. like we couldn't tell it was the rock's body...

action was good, though but thought setup could be better (and oh yea, zombies show up for some reason with zero explanation as well).

i'd give it a 6/10.

As big, stupid, cgi soaked superhero bash ‘em ups with zero character development and crappy plots go… this was one of the better ones.

6.5/10.

….and congratulations for killing the best thing in it, you idiots.

The Imperious Rex now reigns in the DCMU.

Great movie, glad I avoided all the coverage and reviews. Fast paced and entertaining throughout.

Good further buildup of the DC universe with good showings for Dr.Fate and Hawkman. WB strategy of forgoing the slow world introduction and just presenting a world already full of marvels(no pun intended) works great. I now have a more positive feeling towards the DCMU than the MCU.

Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed the first 2/3rds of this movie. It was clever and charming at times (except for Atom Smasher - fuck that guy). But then the bog-standard 3rd act followed the Disney Formula to a T and completely took the wind out of the sails. You can literally fall asleep once the 3rd act starts and wake up during the credits, and you'll still know exactly how it played out.

Also, this movie had some really bad/noticeable ADR, like when the kid was trying to rally people at the end.

5.5/10

I thought the movie was great and I expected crap. The dialogue was funny with only a few cringe lines about black Adam being the real hero or true champion *barf*.

Hawkman was done SO WELL. And Dr fate was fantastic. Those two made the movie for me. I’m stunned we got a non cheesy believable Hawkman. Wow.

The first 2/3rds of the movie just flowed and were a great time. Main villain was entirely forgettable but the kills in this movie were fantastic.

Everyone I was with loved it A- for me. It’s just a great time of a movie.

Saw this tonight. Loved Doctor Fate. Hawkman was PERFECT and glad they went with that one instead of the one they did in the CW shows. The JSA was better than Black Adam, and I could see the guy playing Adam Smasher as He-Man after this movie (he was going to be He-Man in the new live action movie. Didn't like the tan color palette.

We need a Hawkman movie ASAP.

More signaling out Dr.Fate and Hakman. Happy to see it's not just me.
I think it's the right time now for DC to start tying the movies in an arc.

You mean you agree with 6 out 10 critics. 4 out of 10 liked it.

Yep. Actually if I was to rate it, I’d give it a 5/10.
I liked some of the fatalities and the effects, and Black Adam’s bombastic appearance after he was freed in the modern world, but the writing was pretty awful stuff. I couldn’t stand the JSA, with the exception of Dr. Fate, and was hoping Black Adam would smash their faces in which he kinda did so there’s that.

it was a ok movie. Like everyone said the kid was annoying.
Feel like the movie could have been over when he was submerged
.They did Fate dirty.
The movie had so many moments where it could have been great but they just dropped the ball.

Why does Black Adam fly at lightspeeds, then suddenly fly slow? why not be fast all the time when fighting?

The hawk guy with the corny mask, is he as strong as Adam? I thought Adam was supposed to be super strong, but he gets punched around by almost all of them. He punches the hawk guy full on, and the hawk guy takes it like nothing.

I don't understand the logic of these superheroes, why doesn't the fate guy just lay it all out if he can see the future?

The box office for this is now headed into flop territory. Tracking only about 20% ahead of Shazam, which cost half as much.

If it tops around around the 400 - 450 million mark, that’s a probable loss of 50 - 75 million for WBD. Oopsie.

Yeah, that was absurd.

If I was a superhero fan I couldn't accept this sort of nonsense, where every superhero is on the same level when it's convenient. Suddenly they wreck cities, then in the next scene, they are a bunch of pussies who can't beat a guy in a cape.

To be fair JSA new they couldn't win. It was stated they could only slow Black Adam down because his hangover from a 5000 year sleep. And that they needed to convince him to say SHAZAM! voluntarily. IMOO the movie tried to make it as plausible as it could be. It could be argued Hawkman's tech and invincible metal helped him survive, The mace helped him get in a few hits. And in the apartment fight B.Adam was just trolling Hawkman. That's why Dr.Fate was just sitting on the couch. The only real match was Superman as they showed in the end.
