Black Desert Online finally goes full Pay-to-Win

Technically it was already possible to convert real money into in game wealth through the Pearl Shop, but the rates were so abysmally poor that it wasn't much of a problem in practice. They have announced an update for August 29th that will introduce a pretty massive new p2w mechanic to the pearl shop.

When crafting, you spend enormous amounts of resources for a chance to upgrade one item (weapon or armor piece) and if it fails the resources are lost. Gear has 20 levels, which are called 1-15 and then the last 5 are PRI, DUO, TRI, TET and PEN. Chances to upgrade decrease as the level goes up and last I checked there is no player in the world with full PEN gear. There is certainly no one in NA realm currently.

What is changing, is that when you melt costumes (you buy costumes from pearl shop with real money) you will gain somewhere around 70 cron stones. It takes around 1000 cron stones to prevent a downgrade on a PEN attempt. The cost of getting your item back to TET after a failed attempt can be pretty massive.

You're still at the mercy of RNG in the end but the practical impact of this is pretty huge. This is a game where competitive PVP is considered the endgame, and until now the NA server has specifically distinguished itself by not having the p2w options that other realms had. That's the whole reason they charged for the game, to keep this stuff out.

Lets also not forget the inclusion of AFK leveling.

For a while now Pearl Abyss has been everything it possibly could to destroy Black Desert. I cant think of a more incompetent developer.

But, hey, atleast its got pretty graphics right?

I remember when this was a promising upcoming sandbox MMO.

This is a weird change.

The whole shitty enchant/upgrade system is what they need to change. I give up enchanting once I get into the grind failstate nonsense. I imagine most are like me in this.

They should put a lower cap on simple +1 power increases and offer horizontal mods.

It always been... MMORPG are done.

The last time Black Desert was a good game it was during the 2nd Korean beta late in 2015, no cashshop, no instance, no channel, free and balanced PvP, no bullshit skill effect, teamplay oriented, player driven economy, no auction house etc.

I wish mainstream people first encounter with MMORPG were not WoW and that cancerous themepark standard, playing a game while missing the whole point... And talking about "achievement" after using a cashshop.

There's something like this in a couple of MMORPGs I've played. Only there, basically all item enhancement was cash shop. So you could pay $50 and end up worse off than you started. Either a lower plus or even a broken item.

How about the remastered version of the game? Any thoughts about that, guys?

Remastered trailer

What about it specifically?

For me it made the game playable again for the first time since a summer 2017 update that made my game run single-digit fps and choppy (30+ before the update).
Some of the remaster effects are (imho) turned up to high, but it looks nicer.

have not really played the game anything though since it haven't really run that well before.
