Blim does it again PDZ Video

Thanks Blim!

The bottom half of her shirt is a ripple texture. Not modelled, not even normal mapped.

I'm dissappointed.

:P Don't mind me, I'm just choked that they went with this design rather than the other more realistic looking one.

Did anyone else notice all the Batman Returns Batmobiles all over that garage?

kameo on the other hand is gorgeous!

Quoted for effing truth! Xboxyde's videos have well and truly impressed me...where's the "official" media from MS though? How about some official 1280x720 screens for all of these games hosted by MS? It's a shame but MS aren't even interested in media that shows the games being played...they'd much rather enter a dick-waving contest and PR handbag fight with Sony and Nintendo.

Awesome Blim, fuckin come through every time! I dl'd that off your site at 1.2MBs I don't think I've ever gotten that fast of any other site ever!!

First of all, thanks Blim.

Secondly, that looks incredibly dull... if this were any other franchise there would be a chorus of Meh's.

I say Meh to the shittiness of the player, not the game.

That doesn't look good at all. Awful animation, garish use of specular, lots of shader aliasing, no shadows etc.

Well, the game looked pretty bad to me. The character models were... uhm, not good. The control looked very touchy/twitchy (I think this is why the player seemed so bad, contantly trying to recorrect his overcorrecting due to overly sensitive control- a common problem in console FPS till Halo came along). The cars in the garage all looked stupid. The only cool thing I saw were the barrels exploding and the physics of that... although they all looked the same, so that would get old quick.

Overall, this showed me that I absolutely do not want this game in any way shape or form. But that's kind of good b/c there are so many other launch titles I really want, something had to go anyhow. ;)

The bad aiming is most likely due to inverse or non-inverse Y axis controls (depending on how the player's used to aiming.)

Yeah, apparently that's a global setting across all games, and it couldn't be changed on the kits at X05 because they had the dashboard locked. Folks had the same problem playing Oblivion if they were used to the Y axis being the other way.

Y2Kevbug11 said:
It looked like the player sucked to me. When you can't figure out that the axis is inverted, I'm not going to lend any credence to the idea that the game is off when it comes to sensitivity.
He probably did realize it was inverted; have you ever inverted your control and tried to play? That's exactly what happens... even though you know it's reversed, you still constantly make that mistake of going the wrong way.

And you can't attribute touchy control to him. Even when he's just going left or right with the reticule, trying to get his aim on an enemy, he is constantly going to far, back and forth to the left and right of his target. That is a CLASSIC symptom of overly sensitive control in a console FPS. Games like Unreal Championship on Xbox had this issue. The control range does not progress in a linear fashion through the analog range... it's too fast or too slow, making the jump between the two to quickly; and before anyone says it, this has absolutely nothing to do with the speed of sensitivity. If you were to turn your sensitivity down, it would only make you too slow to aim. Analog ranges need to have a linear progression upward through their entire analog range for it to work right. Halo was basically the first title that ever got this right and imo is one of the big reasons it hit mass appeal... finally, people could aim properly in a FPS without a mouse.

I think it looks really, really fun. Sure I wish it was prettier but man, between this video and that co-op gameplay vid I am stoked.

Is this what I want visually from an Xbox 360 title? No. Do I care about how "next-gen" it looks if it plays great? Hell no!

Huh, how someone could not get away impressed graphically from this video is something is beyond my comprehension. It blew away my expectations by a long way as i wasn't really expecting much, after all the negative comments. Sure the characters could do some work, but all the rest screams next gen.

hey, pd zero looks pretty decent. excellent footage, and it really gives you a sense of the game's detail and solidity. gaudy colors and ugly characters, but hey: it's rare.

Yup, it looks good, but the character models with low polygons, crappy texture, and bad art SUCK!. it's almost like the characters are out of place compared to the environment...

Okay, I've had just about enough of the same crap worming it's way into every 360 thread the last 2 days. Allow me to be the first to say: GIVE IT A FUCKING REST.

Seriously, bud, you could just make a macro that seeks out the words "Xbox" "360" and "launch", and save yourself the trouble of actually looking past any of the posted screens/videos on the way to the reply button. You don't like 'M$"? You hate the 360? You titter with glee at the thought of more microsoft congressional hearings? More power to you. Here's a thought--can we stop being reminded of it? :lol

Edit: edited for tears. Tiny, tiny tears.

Is Cybermerc, Drinky Crows "other account"? Or was that already revealed?

For those that attended X05, was MS running games on the 23" Samsung LCD TV that they will be using in the kiosks. I am seriously considering buying one.

Seriously? I noticed that the displays in the store near my house seem to have lost their color and resolution. I wasn't sure if it was the signal source or the failing monitor. That is discerning.

What is the model # and how much will one set you back?

mind you mine is the previous years model but afaik it's identical sans the HDMI port and different styling... it's been excellent so far.

it cost me $1200 cdn (about $1000 usd)

Do you use it as a PC monitor as well?

i do a couple times when i want to run HD videos or whatever. I'm afraid of burn-in so I don't use it for general use :s

Yep. That's it. I'm about to receive the 40'' one, but after X05 I'm not sure I did a good thing. I'm actually scared about games looking "better" on a non-HDTV. I mean, sure games look crip and crystal clear, colors are vibrant, but upon close inspection is soo easy to notice graphical shortcomings that you wouldnt notice on a standard TV. Bare in mind I've never experienced HDTV before (just got a glimpse at E3). What bothers me is that console games tend to look PCish to me now. It's the very same impression I got when I first plugged my Dreamast to a VGA monitor and run Sega Rally on it. I didn't like that and went back to standard definition TVs. Am I the only one with the same concerns?

Current gen stuff often does look worse on HDTV, but the next gen products will look fantastic due to the native high resolution of the games combined with antialiasing and ansiotropic filtering.

I remember a few years ago when cybermerc used to delude himself that the Gamecube was more powerful than the xbox. Does he still do that?

Have to say though, some of his comment on the X360 graphics we have seen so far are warranted. This video of PDZ is the first semi impressive to come out.

To appreciate HD graphics, it needs to be at a proper resolution. None of this 320 x 240 shit.

nice vid blim, turned out very nice. as for the player, haha...yeah he sucks real bad

game looks very good too

i would get a HD tv just for the widescreen gaming experience.

Yah, it amazes me Cybermerc has made it through this un-banned.

I unfortunately must agree with him though.. this latest video from, Blim pretty much confirms it. PD0 looks pretty disappointing graphically. The only thing that looks impressive at all to me are the explosions and how they effect the environment. I also liked the way the gun fired and recoiled in those screens. The graphics overall are really subpar.

btw, I clicked like 7 google adsense ads! GO BLIM! Also, I'll keep seeding this overnight.

I watched those huge ass vids of Kameo and DOA4. That shit looks great. Thanks. Hope to see more

IF everyone could stop quoting cybamerc the ignore function could do its work. Stop quoting the git dammit!

Anyway, from this vid, PD0 looks alright, graphically. It's certainly nothing special, and the character model of the bad guy is terrible, but it looks like it could be fun. Until it's released though such speculation is pointless, and I'm getting really, really sick of these PD0 threads tbh...

A PDZ thread without Prine? It can't be. :lol

Wow, that guy was pretty bad. He couldn't get a lock on a single enemy. Still, the game is looking pretty good, graphics wise. It most definiltey has improved. I still don't like Joanna's look though, and for that matter the look of the enemies, but that's besides the fact. What's imporant is that the game seems to be shaping up, in some form or another.

Finally saw the video (my work computer would not play it) and it was definately the most promising so far. Good framerate, awesome explosions and a good amount of carnage going on; animation was suprisingly good to boot.

Too bad my toddler could have played a better game. :lol

You have GOT to be kidding me. Maybe of PDZ, but man, the other shit has been nothing but impressive (save for some admittedly minor nitpicks from a few people, myself included). People here have a knack for being pessimistic no matter what--but seeing the high-res vids of DOA, PGR, Crackdown, NBA 2K and Live, and now PDZ, I have nothing but confidence for the final product(s). This vid has all the hallmarks of excellent visuals--it seriously needs maybe a bit more tweaking, but this vid was still nothing if not impressive (shader effects, blur, animation, and much better modelling).

No I am only talking about PDZ, not the other games. It looks like the cartoony graphic approach they took does not translate well into screenshots. These last few videos Blim has put up are the first decent look we have had at the game.

This is a very impressive video, and debunks a lot of complaints that were levied against the game. The physics are quite impressive (the amount of debris flying around with the explosions, and at 0:53 mark the door that comes flying, watch how it comes to a rest), the explosions look great, the AI has some intelligence (they don't rush the player, and at 0:47 watch the guy run behind the pillar), and the animation looks fine (though that wasn't a big complaint).

Really, the only complaints that are left are purely stylistic choices, such as the shininess of the environmental materials, and the look of character models. I would like to add that I find it very interesting that given the Xbox fan's supposed demographic of techno-nerd guy, the two key games of launch have femalte protagonists.
