Blizzard just gave me a free copy of WoW Battlechest

Will you want thousands of people running around in dark souls?
No, but if it's Dark Souls you would never have thousands of players all running around. At most I can imagine maybe three players being "instanced" into a world, likely using similar summoning methods to those that are used now (or placing players at different starting locations and having the world have Player Character encounters be randomized throughout the game world). Or perhaps a hub to facilitate it in some way (aside from invasions, which would be ad hoc). You could bring back world tendency too, where being darker means a greater chance for invasions and being lighter means a greater chance for friendly summons. Etc. etc.

Like I said, a Dark Souls MMO would not be like current MMOs.

Blizz doesn't give keys, they usually associate it directly to your account. Though I wonder if the link in the e-mail is "universal" (that is, not tied to an account). I know I had an old "free month of play" sent to my wife, but I used the link and logged in with my account and claimed it there.

That email in first post though states you can enter the key provided below?

No way a newcomer will go through the first two expansions in one day.

Billions and billions of people are new to World of Warcraft.

...Who already own a blizzard game (See Starcraft 2 and now Diablo 3 who got this promotion)? I'd imagine that pool is pretty shallow. Most people who buy blizzard games I know of are fans of blizzard games, and nearly every blizzard fan has at least tried WoW before.

(edit) KMD: So it does! That's weird... I thought Blizz stopped using CD keys for it's promos a few years ago.

(edit 2) Important question to OP... are you US or EU?

I have every battle.net game except wow, and didn't get this :(

I got one as well. Just clicked on the "Claim" button in the email, logged in, and it was added to my account.

EDIT - North America.

You're most certainly incorrect. There are countless of people who own another Blizzard game but not World of Warcraft. For starters, check the responses directly below your post. Didn't take many minutes for just a few people to prove my point.

Also, you never mentioned that criteria in your first post, so my "billions of people" statement is in that case incorrect, since there aren't that many people who have played Starcraft or Diablo either.
