ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Reviews are out and it's getting panned, mostly because it's disgusting, exploitative, and it's all over the place. Some say it's one of the best movies ever, some say it's the worst. Grosser thing is people are reviewing it and haven't even seen the movie.

The book is actually like that, and it was one of Joyce Carol Oates' best books (the book really jumps timelines and it's artsy).

I had a feeling it would be controversial though, still watching it anyway.

*Hears someone mention "Ana De Armas NC-17 Marilyn Monroe movie"*

*Bursts through the barred iron door as if it were made of tissue paper, already taking off pants*

Well just so you know, she does get naked but the movie won't make you feel good about it.

Anyone watched the movie?

Here’s my take:

To be honest, this shouldn’t be approached as a drama biopic (because this isn’t a biopic at all since it’s a fictional novel) but rather a horror auteur film.

It’s pretty tame for an NC-17 film in my opinion.

I liked it for what it was. It was different from a lot of movies I’ve seen. My favorite parts were the recreation of the MM movies (All About Eve, Don’t Bother to Knock, Niagara, The Seven Year Itch, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Some Like it Hot) and how a “horror” story was wrapped around them.

I admittedly zipped through it just to see the NC-17 stuff. Gotta say, unless i flashed over it, it's mostly just lots of ADA topless (always a nice sight) and "that scene" with Kennedy that seems pretty tame these days. So that NC-17 rating was probably something they could have removed with a few small tweaks but they wanted it for publicity.

Not that I watched much of it, but it does look very stylish and the few bits of dialogue I heard, AdA does a pretty good "breathless MM accent" I'm sure there are plenty of slips but she doesn't seem to be just using her normal voice.

Actually here’s a question:

Those who hated the movie because it doesn’t give justice to Marilyn, isn’t this movie a reflection of the those who hated the movie (so the movie itself is meta)?

The movie is also basically about… Throwing away your humanity to the Hollywood horrors for what the people want that will make them happy.

Basically those who hated it don’t want Marilyn’s image to be destroyed and trampled on but aren’t they also contributing to her legend aka image that they want to see from her as a positive, bubbly, beautiful, perfectly constructed and funny character; a perfect image of what a Hollywood star should be. We are familiar with the Marilyn we know so if we are presented with something cruel or bad about her, we will get angry at it, or even ignore it.

It’s kind of like the story Those Who Walk Away from Omelas: in a perfect city, there is one who has to suffer from it and people can choose to ignore it and continue on living in a perfect life, or they can choose to leave the city.

The movie is definitely miserable and cruel, but that’s what the movie and the book is really about anyway.

Anyway, just sharing a thought.

Can I get some timestamps on the JFK BJ scene? Do we get to see something or is it just shot from behind her back?

We need penetration in movies now. CG is a thing and Hally Barry and Billy Bob literally had sex 20 years ago.

It's shot right in her face. She is clearly sucking on something, but she is giving it a good porn handjob as well so you never really see anything.

Must have taken A LOT of practice to get that right, I'm guessing she was dating Affleck during this time so he probably received all the benefit of rehearsal :p
