Yeah, Stone is correct, and these guys, I wait until the move they use is the stationary one where they put the axe over their head (which is the timing). If they do jump attacks or run at you, dodge instead.

Making progress now and I'm really getting back into the groove. I'd say this game is considerably different from the Dark Soul's, at least, where it will take time understanding the core gameplay again and mastering it. Feels like Demon's Souls all over again.

There's a way around the wolves.
Go left in the big fountain courtyard instead of right. Next to the snooty NPC woman there's a path hidden by some wooden debris you can roll through.

Man some of you absolutely suck at using spoiler tags. You don't quote anything, you don't give any hint as to the contents of your spoiler. Do we need a YT tutorial vid on how and when to use them?

I'm seeing a bit of variety thanks to the weapon transformation system. Quick shortsword/greatsword swapping, etc. But I am a bit worried about this too since the build variety was the biggest draw for me in the previous games.

To be fair there's not much there to be spoiled, but I understand your point.
Holy hell, I feel like I'm finally "getting" it in Bloodborne now, though. Took like 2, 2 and a half hours to UNLEARN Dark Souls 2 reactions to combat.
Can't be overstated enough: You have to be an aggressive motherfucker guys. If you get hit, don't dodge or roll or runaway unless you absolutely know you're going to get hit for fatal damage; take it, and get that health right back by using quick attacks. As long as you do this and nail the timing on parry big enemies, you'll breeze through the (early) areas I feel (there are some nasty enemies that don't show up much you have to be wary of though -- steer clear from "unique looking" things until you aren't holding on to too many souls. Or whatever they're called now.

It seems like one of the bigger complains about DS2 was the overwhelming number of humanoid bosses. This game seems to have overcorrected that

You need to die once [or win] at Cleric Beast. Then puppet girl in Hunters Dream will wake up. You can purchase stat upgrades from her.
One side of touchpad is for gestures, the other side for non-combat items.
