After landing the fully charged R2. wait for the enemy to crumple to the ground. Then walk up and R1. You shouldn't be mashing R1 after the R2 or you'll just knock them out of the crumple animation.

That must've been what I was doing wrong, I'll try that next chance I get. Thanks!

Spoilers on leveling up:
So, I just found out that you don't have to even encounter the boss to be able to level up! The trigger is getting your first insight, and there is a mad mans skull on a body somewhere in the first area (dont remember where sorry!). Pick that up, use it to gain insight, and just head back to the Hunters Dream.

The key to avoiding the load times is simply not to die. Something I am currently not achieving

Exactly.

The true genius of Bloodborne is that in addition to losing your echoes when you die, you are subject to 45 seconds of silence to think about how bad you fucked up.

Without any spoilers, can someone tell me when I can start using my blood points to level up?

Can't tell you without a very minor spoiler:

reach the first boss and die/win, then you can level up and upgrade equipment

Why can't I restore blood vials from lantern?

Because this isn't dark souls

Edit: troll tweet from Sony Europe "how to survive your first 24 hours with Bloodborne" except the game isn't out today in Europe :/

can you guys please spoiler tag your shit ffs

just made a lot of progress from the beginning and then died. definitely gonna be a rough journey. good stuff

I have a question about the second area:

When I first went through the woods, I was in a large, open wooded area that was filled with nothing but dogs and gun grunts. Where was this? I've been trying to find it again for hours...

Good morning GAF!

Today is the day... do I refresh the page and see the hell that I've missed? (review thread)

I'm gonna be using the load times for drink/bathroom breaks.

I do really hope the future patch they're talking about comes sooner rather than later, and that it improves the load times significantly.

You're gonna love what you see, Yoshi.

MOTHER FUCK! 8,500 souls gone because I found the first boss but didn't realize it was leading to the boss.

EDIT: Suck a dick game. I JUST NOW got the ability to level up my stats after that death.

Managed to take down the Cleric Beast on my 2nd try.
I had the tiniest sliver of health with no vials and one blood bullet(?) left at the end. Nearly gave me a heart attack.

I love this game.

1st boss strategy spoiler
After hitting him a bunch with the light attack he goes into a "down" state you can get 2 off right there. Also in the second half he does big 3 hit combo, the last hit leaves him wide open.
If you instead
smash his big ugly face, you can do a critical "finisher" on him for a few hundred damage.

The loading screens get in the way seriously bad. 1 minute or so per death. 1 minute or so every time you visit the resting area. I hope a thing like this can be patched.

Seriously how did FROM SOFTWARE overlook this?

I mean I know the hardware inside the PS4 isn't high-end, but if a somewhat mid-range PC can load Dark Souls 2 in 2-3 seconds, there is no excuse for this on PS4.

What gives?

I wonder why they didn't do item descriptions like in the Souls games

Part of the problem with the souls games with hub words was that you were forced to look at a loading screen back to your hub everytime you leveled up. I miss leveling at the camp Fire.

2nd boss down. 2nd attempt. Hands actually shook - wow. The side quest item is a gigantic help, and if you haven't learned how to parry yet you won't get past it.

YES!

YES!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you GOD!

So no one from BloodborneGAF got banned?

What else did I miss in the past 5 hours? 30 pages has gone by while I was sleeping

ALSO WHY CAN I NOT PRE-LOAD EU YET?!?!?!?!? It says 16 hours left until the game is released FFS!!!!

That feature is locked behind the Hunter of the First Beast DLC, sir.
vv The controls took me all of 5 minutes to get used to. You'll probably hit L1 (transform weapon) a few times when you either want to shoot (L2) or heal (Triangle). Not sure what games did that to me, TBH. I had to consciously not hit square (use item) for attacking, and I can blame FF Type 0 for that.

How is the button layout? Is it any confusing? I don't really mind dying, but I won't be happy if I am dead just because of a simple mistake like pressing wrong button (From what I know I can't cancel my attack once I start it).

I know absolutely nothing about this game other than the E3 trailer from last year.

So is it just another Souls game? (in a good way I mean)
