Blu Ray "local storage" ... ?

So I popped in Life of Pi today, and it's telling me I need 'local storage' (half a gig iirc) to play the feature. I hit continue and it seems to be running fine so can someone tell me what that's all about? The internets are pretty vague, some say you need for buffering (this makes no sense to me since Gravity didn't need any) and some say it's for BD Live features. If it's the latter I don't really care about that shit. But I don't know.

halp.

It's for BD Live. Stick a thumb drive in a USB port and the message should go away.

I remember the good ol days when I could just jam a tape in my vcr and hit play >:{

Those days were shit. Rewinding, tracking, image quality that degraded every time you played, media that was actually a heavy, bulky machine with moving parts, fuck those days.

The only good thing about those days was browsing in the video store. Also, VHS was inherently haunted by supernatural forces which is why The Ring worked even for a DVD audience. VHS has built in creepy.
