Sony announces that it will officially end production of recordable Blu-ray discs in February

I'm sorry for taking the article at face value, that Sony were ceasing production of discs in a month's time.

I know now I should have done a comprehensive search and researched the topic before contributing a comment to the discussion of the article.
Not sure why you're taking it so seriously. Was just letting you know this was said to be happening back in June.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's a big deal to anyone but you. Not everything is war.

I hope you feel better soon.
It's not a big deal to me and I wasn't referring to you. I was talking about the people mentioning pressed physical media which has nothing to do with this consumer recordable media.

Been gaming a looooooong time.

45+ years.

Been through it all & seen it all.

Even did my part in the scene (small part).

Glad I did too.

As I refuse to support ANY system without physical media. Be it disc or cart.

NO MEDIA ~ NO GO.

PERIOD.

I don't spend my hard earned money to buy $#@! for it to become vaporware or inaccessible due to time or lack of support.

If companies wanna play stupid, then I will go back to my old ways and hack the ever living F@&% out of any & all systems that don't offer physical media.

THEY WON'T GET ANOTHER DIME FROM ME.

I have amassed & collected DAY ONE release consoles since the 80's. All of which I can pop on and play WITHOUT permission or restriction AS INTENDED.

They better not play around.

I do not take this lightly....

It's really gonna suck when physical media goes away. I don't consider myself much of a collector but it's nice to see movies or games on a shelf that have memories attached. Whether they were presents or midnight releases or whatever.
Yep. The death of physical is when I leave console entirely.

Its like the death of blockbuster- loved going to rent movies and get candy. My kids will never be able to experience that now 😢

I mean,

  • 2x international wars going on

  • Inflation

  • Civil unrest at extreme levels

  • Fires

  • Floods

And now... THIS?! WTF is this world coming too?!

But for serious, I am a physical exclusively guy. I will move on from consoles if there is no longer physical media in the future (and I know it is inevitable). I'm already fairly jaded with the industry in its current form, anyway.

I am building my 4k UHD BR collection too. What I find interesting, is they keep saying physical doesn't sell - but new releases at Walmart on 4k sell out stupid fast in store, but they don't get a lot of stock, which in turn allows them to show low sales amount (because stock isn't available), even though most releases in my area sell out quickly for anything worth a crap.

And I know this thread isn't about that, just commenting on the overall state of physical as much of this conversation has went to.

That's the point of conversation ~ there is a lot to discuss & factor into what is coming in the foreseeable future.

The decline of physical was planned and it was never going to be allowed to stay just because anyone wants to buy it.

The overlords have spoken and informed us of what we really wanted. They simply reacted to us...of course.

IIRC Sony sold this stuff to an outside manufacturer, they just aren't the ones making the disc but they're still doing physical media. Hell, they're in charge of Disneys physical stuff
