Spice Girls 'Dropped from Live Aid Follow-Up'

By Anita Singh and Alison Purdy, PA

The Spice Girls will not perform at the follow-up to to Live Aid because their music does not “fit in” with the event’s political theme, it was reported today.

The group have been dropped from the line-up because their music is incompatible with the serious political message the event wants to get across, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.

In the song Beware of the Boys, Jay-Z speaks on the iraqi situation and on a freestyle, makes mention of 9/11 since his LP, The Blueprint, came out on that same day.

Diddy was a very staunch opponent of Bush getting re-elected. He was on MTV saying, and I quote, We need to get Bush's ass out of office. Can't speak for the others though

But what does Bush have to do with people Starving in Africa, that is what the concert is for, it has nothing to do with Bush .
Those artist, I have mentioned have never tried to do anything for the people starving in Africa, it is all for free publicity

The Spice Girls are still performing?

What the fuck?

Any by the way, if anybody involved in booking this event were an elitist to any degree at all, there might be four acts from that list at absolute most.

I guess I'll try to go just for Bon Jovi... but damn, the Philly lineup looks pretty shitty for a non-rap fan.

Really? I thought all the particapants in the Get your ass and vote campaign were supposed to be neutral, publically anyway. I think the Spice girls lost any political clout (from the left) when Gerri declared Thatcher as the original Spice Girl. Dont think that went down with the 2 Mels, who are from blue collar towns.

I've got a lot of respect for Geldoff, but that isn't right. If they're willing to perform, I say let 'em...who's it harming?

I guess some would argue that the reuniting of the Spice Girls for this one show would somehow overshadow the event (I doubt it myself), but considering there are rumours that Bob's trying to get Pink Floyd to reunite for this gig, that doesn't make much sense.

Sir Bob yesterday confirmed he has spoken to the Spice Girls about them reforming for the gig — and said the signs were looking good.

It had been wrongly claimed that Live8 promoter Harvey Goldsmith had banned them because they “weren’t rock and roll enough”.

But Goldsmith told yesterday’s press conference at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel: “The Spice Girls are not banned — we would love to have them on the show.”

Sir Bob added: “I spoke to them this morning and it’s looking very good.”

Hell, we somehow managed to organize the "SARS stock" concert a couple years ago that sold 400,000 tickets in less then a month, so in some ways this'll be cake in comparison. :lol Local promoter Michael Cohl is heading this one, who arranges tours for some of the big rock acts in the world including the Rolling Stones. Incidently they rehearse here in July for their upcoming tour, and are rumoured to be the main attraction for Live 8 Toronto.

They also have shows on tap for Tokyo and Johannesberg (sp).

I thought the point of Live8 was to get pop stars on stage which then brings publicity. And its that publicity that can drive change (as the politicians won't do it off their own bat).

Yeah, that's the point. They wanted to hold this on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, but that area will be busy with Canada Day celebrations.

That's a shame...but hell, they'll be here in a few months anyway.

Also hearing that Molson Park in Barrie is gonna be the venue, since Downsview Park won't be ready in time (plus I think a fuction is going on there at around the same time). So if I somehow lucked out and got a ticket for this, I'd be SOL with no car.
