Hey GAF, I feel into a hole recently and started watching long form build projects.

As I spend most of my days slowly atrophying away in front of my desktop computer, I find these sort of projects quite fascinating.

So I wanted to share some of the channels I follow in the hope that someone here could share cool stuff to further my new addiction.
Something that Bob the builder would be proud.


People with the can do attitude, that value Hard work intrinsically and that make you feel lazy watching it and want to do something of yourself.

Tally Ho



A young man and his many friend rebuild a 109-year old English sailing yacht called Tally Ho.

Project Binky, the quest to create a 2 litre, turbocharged, 4WD Austin Mini. A lot of Bristish Humor and a lot (a lot) of brackets.

Scrappy



Scrappy is an extreme Bush plane and the brain child of Mike Patey, someone that works in his sleep and has the most can do, hard work attitude you can imagine.
It's really hard to hate the Guy as he is as knowledgeable as he is resourceful.

MMX


The Marble Machine X is the perfect mix of Music, Engineering and Innovation.
You follow a crazy Swedish guy reinvent the wheel multiple time, and learn everyway an idea can fail.
And then you learn to admire the grit it takes to keep going, no compromises.

Wintergatan is really nice, been hooked before the started MMX and i don't even care about the worldtour

I'd love to get into woodwork, but for now I just look at /r/joinery every now and again (one of the few good subs on that site)

I've been meaning to watch Project Binky for a while so thanks for the reminder.

Channels I like.

Vice Grip Garage. Guy does all kinds of car revivals but this series about rescuing an old Chevelle and turning it into a burnout car has been excellent.


Jonathan W. Fixes up all kind of junk, old steam engines, hotrods.

Ive always had a fantasy of building my own galleon

I had the chance to visit a shipyard where they were building the Hermione.
It was an really cool project from France and the USA where they totally rebuilt Lafayette's ship when he came to the US.

That's impressive. I can't believe they can cut out such precise shapes and make such flat planes and perfect joins without using power tools, just using simple hand tools and eyeballing everything. I'm guessing that can be learned? Tons of ancient knowledge in the world, I'm realizing, before electricity showed up.

Yeah, he does all kinds of crazy shit oldschool which is why I like it, its just someone who is really good with the basics.
I don't shit on people who uses powertools, they can make equally impressive stuff, but there is something about the mindset of picking the harder route that I like.

Forging in all its forms is another thing I never get tired of watching, but regardless of how nice that sword looks and the time and effort behind it, the "old ways" of forging katanas is on another level and I never tire of watching "the tech and lore" behind it.
