Boba Fett spinoff film may have major ret-con

Has the Latino Review been right about anything? I remember getting needlessly excited over their rumor about Christopher Nolan producing the Justice League movie...

Were the clones purged? If they weren't, I don't see how he'd be able to accomplish that in a single lifetime considering they cloned Jango thousands of times to create an army.

Boba Fett was the only unaltered clone of Jango Fett.
Jango got his head chopped off.
Boba fell into a Sarlac pit.
The end.

Ii can be argued that this technically isn't a true retcon, it was never said or shown as 100% fact that the Boba Fett in the OT was the clone from the PT.

Of course the intent is that this is a retcon so yeah, it's a retcon.

It's a retcon because Lucas (IIRC) changed his voice in one of his more recent revisions.

So they're not even asking me to take interest in Boba Fett, who to someone not immersed in the EU has no real identity or personality, but actually this movie just features his clothes? That's going to be the hook for existing fans? Why even anchor the concept to Boba Fett if a helmet and a jetpack are the big payoff for that?

You could just make a film about a cosplayer.

Aha someone urgently needs to see or read regular Dragon Ball!

Yamcha literally has exactly 2 victories under his belt in all of Dragonball, DBZ, and DBGT

Goku in his first appearance, and that was because Goku was starving.

The invisible man, AFTER he got help from Krillin and Roshi.

Why do they need to have someone kill him when he's already dead? (Fuck that weak EU fanwank.)
If it's going to be another guy, then just have the Sarlacc spit out the empty armor and have someone find it. Or do a straight copycat. Or do what's in the OP, but while the guy is patting himself on the back for beating Boba Fett, cut to a flashback showing that he actually killed some random asshole who found the armor.

Maybe it's because I saw the movies 90's, but I always thought Boba Fett was kind of stupid. I remember hearing all these things about Boba being this badass bounty-hunter. I hyped myself up only to come crashing down in disappointment when I found out that this supposed badass only utters a few words, can't shoot a blaster, doesn't kill anybody, and ends up dying because a blind Han Solo couldn't keep his balance. Why is this character so loved?

That said, I wouldn't mind the retcon Kasdan pitched. It sounds fun.

He's popular because of his design, (by Joe "GAF fucking hates me." Johnston) and because they released his action figure way before the rest of the ESB toy line. Simple as that.

I'd rather they'd just introduce a new bounty hunter with a different name. This is useless retcon to cover up another horrible retcon.

Love it, sounds like a great idea to me. No one will care if he's not the annoying little kid from the prequels. Separating him from the whole prequel debacle is great.

Edit: Well now I'm wondering at what point in time will the real Fett be killed?

It would be cool if they just made a straight-up spaghetti western.

A poor town on Tatooine is overrun by a crime family, and some locals scrounge up the cash to put out a bounty. Several bounty hunters show up and fight for the prize. Boba's cape thing even kind of looks like a poncho.

Now I'm picturing the armor being like the Elder Wand from Harry Potter, where the owners don't live long because someone is always trying to kill them for it.

I'm fine with this as long as the new Boba Fett is a badass. And now we can all ignore the redubbed Boba voice in the re-release of the original trilogy.

Didn't the prequels show, that he wasn't a boring, ordinary clone?

He was raised by jango.
Wasn't like he was a normal clone, that never meet his father and found his helmet by accident after he got killed.

But imo they shouldn't ret con the prequels, they should simply ignore them.

But like I said, don't have a problem with clone boba, because he wasn't a clone like all the others.

More important is, that they don't set the film after rotj.

Just one small step to the eventual reboot of the entire prequel trilogy - complete with a different story that does not involve Midichlorians in any capacity whatsoever!

I can dream, can't I?

I really do think this is going to happen.

Just ignore the prequels and reinstate this as Boba Fetts background

He should be this super elite assassin, but he falls into manhole covers, ditches, and pools all the time as this tragic foreshadowing.

Christ, this is longer than the wiki for George Washington and dumb as all hell.

Fuck it, just get JJ Abrams to write it, I don't even fucking care anymore.

Dengar and Fett would become good friends, the infamous Fett even serving as Dengar's best man during his wedding to Manaroo. In return for this rescue, Fett allowed Dengar to accompany him on a labyrinthine mission involving the Bounty Hunters' Guild and Prince Xizor's ultra-secret Black Sun. Fett learned of Xizor's involvement with the deaths of Owen and Beru Whitesun Lars, the uncle and aunt of Luke Skywalker. His search led him to Neelah, who knew about the conspiracy. With so many potential leads, Boba eventually found out the head of the serpent was wealthy industrialist Kuat of Kuat. For the mission, Fett stole the freighter Hound's Tooth from his rival Bossk, leaving Slave I behind drifting in space. After arriving in the shipyards, Kuat wired the entire construction docks with explosives. Fett flew the Hound's Tooth into the exploding construction area, where he found Kuat inside one of the larger ships waiting for his imminent death. After a series of questions about the bombing raid on Jabba's palace, Boba made Kuat leave the ship. Fett managed to pilot the ship into the vacuum of space. In the aftermath Kuat was killed by the explosions, but Fett managed to save the shipyards from serious damage. At approximately the same time, word spread that the Rebel Alliance had defeated the Empire in the Battle of Endor, an event that would change Fett's life forever.

Oh, according to the wiki, he also got into a fist-fight with Vader apparently.

The prequels established that OT Boba Fett was a clone of Jango.

This rumor, if true, makes it so that OT Boba is not the Jango clone, but rather someone else who killed him.

Therefore, retcon.

Well... I think it is never stated in the OT that the person in the armour is the same person does it (ignoring stupid voice retcons)?

He should be this super elite assassin, but he falls into manhole covers, ditches, and pools all the time as this tragic foreshadowing.

What the fuck? Man, that EU stuff got pretty crazy.

Maybe it isn't stated, but the voice change makes it pretty clear that that us what Lucas wants.

Btw. If the killing takes places before the ot, it would conflict with Lucas vision. But after the it would be possible.

I still think the Boba Fett fandom is weird. I mean, this is a guy that shows up for max 15 minutes in the OT only to capture Han Solo and afterwards die in an anticlimactic way (though the EU reversed this, but fuck the EU) and yet he is remembered as the biggest badass in the Star Wars universe.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. The clone stuff wasn't exactly great (especially with him being a kid in that movie) but if you're going to make an entire film centered around Boba Fett they kind of have to work with something, and furthermore the material surrounding mandalor and such isn't actually bad.

I feel like just 'killing' what we perceived Fett to be is a cheap out. So the guy we all liked in the OT was just some guy that killed the real Fett and took his name, but we don't learn this until decades after learning about Fett in general, and not until after we basically learned his origin and the backstory of his people.

I don't know, it just comes across as hollow and sloppy, and StarWars has had enough of that already.

Also these two posts
