Boehner: Nation on the path to default if Obama doesn't give concessions for ACA

I always hear that the Republicans used to be like modern Democrats if you go back far enough. That things started on this current path about 30 years ago.

From my understanding the parties used to be geographical rather than ideological, or at least much more than they are now, before the Civil Rights act. That put the country on the path to polarisation.

The thing with the tea party too, is that they come from bleach white districts, districts not affected by national demographic changes, districts that still live in the sixties. They think they're winning this battle because they are... In their districts, comprehensively. People talk about the conservative bubble but these literally are bubbles.

If anyone is truly curious about what's going on in the heads of ultra-conservatives, I recommend a visit to godlikeproductions. It's both comical and frightening. It used to be a conspiracy forum, with interesting topics such as aliens or John Titor. Now, it's Tea Party headquarters jam packed with the most intellectually challenged bunch of gun-toting, freedom loving, anti-communist, god-fearing simpletons who vote.

Just pick a thread and try to make it through without futile engagement.

By far more frightening than comical. Even the conservative FB pages I like to (s)troll through don't have his much mindless rhetoric.

Haha, GLP is the most batshit crazy forum out there. Every single current event, earthquake or meteor shower is a conspiracy created by Obama/the jews/alien overlords.

I think this is half true. Remember that, in America, a geographical party is fundamentally a civil rights party, because the geographical divide is between "Confederate" and "doesn't like slavery that much".

It's not that oppressing people of color wasn't still a major focus of the Southern party. It's that there was general agreement on the "oppressing people of color" question up until the Civil Rights Act, so the political parties were divided on other topics. But it's true to suggest that the polarization we're seeing now is a result of the divide between people who are attempting to overcome America's history as a slave power and the long-term oppression created as a result of that and people who would really rather embrace it.
