Is there any chance DEM will compromise in this case? I hope not.

Obama can't compromise even if he wanted too. Because doing so would effective neuter the rest of his presidency and all future presidencies. It would also break the democratic process to a dangerous degree.

So what you're saying is that even though the executive has been totally hacked, nerfing it so hard will break the whole game.

The Republicans are Paladins in WoW vanilla.
They're overpowered but still suck and when things get too hard they just bubble hearth.

I dont believe that at all. Perceptions change and old cranky white people die

There kids think the same way. The whole south including this big metropolitan area in FL I currently live in is full of brats and millenials who think Fox News is a real news network and just repeat the same shit those old whitey's repeat over and over about Obama and democrates. It's never going to change. The only hope is that these people get snuffed out by more vocal groups.

That isnt true at all. People aren't mindless drones who follow their parents political beliefs. They are certainly influenced by them, but the wider world does as well, especially when they go off to college and then enter the adult world.

I mean, honestly, just think about it. If we all had the views of our parents nothing would chance. There certainly wouldn't be gay marriage.

LIving in Florida, i am sorry to inform.....

As someone who is in college in FL and volunteered for Obama I can tell you that most of these people's view of the world doesnt change. Like I said before it doesn't help when Fox news is established as like the primary news source in Florida and literally every TV in a public place is set to that channel as default.

This is true. My parents are diehard Republicans and actually support what is happening right now. When I was in highschool I followed in their footsteps. I was a diehard WASP to the core. I never thought that the nation could be "stupid" enough to elect Obama over McCain. I thought that Obama was a secret Muslim.

Then I went to college and within my freshmen year I completely shed all of that thanks to a combination of tenured labor history professors and actually looking at things critically for once (something kids aren't taught to do in high school anymore). Now I am a Social Democrat for practical purposes and a Utopian Communist for idealistic purposes.

My fiancée is exactly the same way.

someone save me for the love of something up there!!

Saving? there will be no saving. For Your soul belongs to him:

Obama still eeked out a win in Florida. As more non-Cuban Hispanics get the vote Dems should be in even better shape. It isn't going to be easy but you still have to think we're in better shape that the other side.

The absolute truth is this: If the ACA is bad policy then it would be proven just by going into effect. For example, people would get unhealthier, more people would get sick and not get treated, people would drown under the burden of medical expenses and debt, the deficit would balloon, and people would drop out of exchanges and protest government.

But this isn't true. If fully implemented, the American people will benefit and realize that the democrats were right. This is what republicans fear which is why they are trying to fuck up implementation as much as possible. If the ACA succeeds the republican party loses. And if implemented fully, the ACA will succeed. Despite all the compromises, and not being ideal, the ACA is still sound policy.

I'm sorry but this is quite likely the soundest perspective in this thread.

Florida went for Obama in the past two national elections, and even though we elected Rick Scott in 2010 because lol midterms, he currently has a 33% approval rating and will likely lose the next election to the gayest man in politics, Charlie Crust. Cut us a little slack.

The gayest man in politics?

I think Boehner needs a hug. He looks like hes about to cry in every interview.

Well he is destined to go down in history as either the most ineffectual speaker in history or as the man that brought about Financial Armageddon 2.0. I'd be sad too.

Which college are you going to? If you're going to UF, that's in Gainesville in North Florida, which is predominately white. Central and South Florida are much different.

Charlie must win. But I don't know if he has the money behind him.

Is there a chance their end game is to have Obama use the 14th Amendment then try and impeach him?!

My wacko uncle says this is what he hopes happens.

Guys....

I'm obsessing over this issue. I'm not even one to be into politics very much but I can't help but think that the world is ending in about a week and a half. I can't even think about things I normally interested in because I feel like I'm not going to be able to do anything ever again when this is all over. I feel like my financial future and my personal well-being are being destroyed right before my very eyes and it's killing me inside.

I honestly think I'm starting to feel depressed about this whole thing. Is there anyone else here that feels this way? Or am I just being to doom and gloom?

BOEHNER: My goal here is not to have the United States default on its debt.

that's a good goal considering that we really can't

it makes as much sense as people running out to buy bread when news of a snowstorm breaks out

The problem with Obama invoking the 14th is that he has already backed himself into a corner by saying he won't do it - and specifically because he and his advisers don't believe they have the legal right to do so.

It's not doom and gloom yet. However it's pretty fucking scary.

Hang in there I still think the good guys will win.

Great New York Times article outlining the Tea Party strategy and how long ago this has been planned:

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2013/10/0...hs-in-the-planning.html?hp=&pagewanted=print&

Shortly after President Obama started his second term, a loose-knit coalition of conservative activists led by former Attorney General Edwin Meese III gathered in the capital to plot strategy. Their push to repeal Mr. Obama’s health care law was going nowhere, and they desperately needed a new plan.

Out of that session, held one morning in a location the members insist on keeping secret, came a little-noticed “blueprint to defunding Obamacare,” signed by Mr. Meese and leaders of more than three dozen conservative groups.

It articulated a take-no-prisoners legislative strategy that had long percolated in conservative circles: that Republicans could derail the health care overhaul if conservative lawmakers were willing to push fellow Republicans — including their cautious leaders — into cutting off financing for the entire federal government.

Big article more at link. Make no mistake, they WILL take this all the way, and the Speaker and moderate Republicans are terrified of losing their jobs/districts.

For people that rely on the government to pay their bills, they're already pretty doomed.

Oh I agree 100% I have friends that are furloughed and it's sad to see what they are having to do. In regards to the poster I was responding to its not the end of the world yet.

Seems like most Democrats found a long-lost cache of great big ol' goat balls somewhere because surprisingly they haven't "compromised" already.

Part of it is that Obama doesn't have to worry about being re-elected. Dem's are basically calling the GOP bluff and seeing just how far the GOP is willing to take it before they blink.

The GOP is just piling on now in hopes to get Obama and Reid to cave. I expect things to get worse from the GOP before they get any better.

This might do it.... This might finish the GOP if they keep pushing this issue. If Obama and the democrats crack under the pressure this would set a dangerous precedent basically if your party doesn't like a law just defund the enforcement of it by holding the rest of the country hostage.
