Gotta say I think he's fucking terrible by himself. There's always a ton of dead air, a ton of "Uhhh's and ummm's" and his overall energy just sucks (and it has for years). He can't carry a show by himself and its obvious.
Nextlander is still the eggshell walking, scared of being actually honest about anything bullshit that they brought directly over from their late days at GB and what's worse is this is THEIR company! They should be freely speaking about anything game related without hesitation, but when the asylum purples basically own your business from paying you every month, I guess some things just won't ever change.
They have zero sustainability imo. I cant see any of them doing this for the rest of their lives. Im actually surprised it's lasted this long They do absolutely nothing that separates them from anyone else. Moriarty actually put in the effort to create a mini empire and owns part of a development company, has multiple types of shows and a whole cast of different people on, including some incredible interviews, like with Levine.
It's wild that Nextlander and even Gerstmann dont have that kind of pull anymore. Pretty fucking crazy. And Jeff used to have Phil on his couch at all of those late era E3s. Would love to know how he burned all of those bridges. All of those guys did it seems.

Well, I do like Colin a lot more after he left Kinda Funny. Greg Miller is just a bitch-ass soyboy, much like everyone at Nextlander. Dragging everything down with him. So Colin is better off without him, at least.

I listened to Giant Bomb on the way to work. 20 minutes and they didn't get to any gaming stuff at all. All talk about Covid and other irrelevant stuff. It's amazing how many members they have and how little content they produce. Occasionally there is a Blight Club, Unprofessional Fridays, and Grubb does his Game Mess Mornings.......other than that there is very little content. Sometimes Dan will decide to show up and do a 'Demo Derby' episode but every since Covid, they have all worked from home and have very little content. Nothing like the Giant Bomb from pre-2020!

I started watching Metal Gear Scanlon on YouTube and oh my God Drew is so bad at this game. I don't understand how people enjoy watching this, he dies to every boss for 2 hours because he can't learn the controls, he always resorts to fighting guards instead of sneaking around them, he can't remember to call people on the codec without being reminded. I would expect this if someone who has never played video games before picked this up, but this guy is a video game personality. I expected him to have a basic understanding of game design and a basic level of coordination required by anything that isn't turn based or for children.

Gerstmanns meal ticket to his Patreon bucks are the Reee types. Doesn’t surprise me at all he’s like that (same with milquetoast Nextlander). If any of them even went so far as to act middle of the road their money would dry up

I've been using Twitter almost daily since 2009, and I use it mainly to read tweets. I don't think a JG video is going to generate much interest. If that was my goal, I would be tweeting more regularly about things that are more relevant/trendy. I don't even know what you're arguing with me about regarding my motives, or how the number of likes a tweet has changes anything.
I haven't been keeping up with JG/GB since around 2017, and I haven't seen much discussion here or anywhere else about his rant, which is why I uploaded this video.
Pretty wild how well these guys Patreons do.
Jeff is consistently ~8-9k and Nextlander at 12k. That’s like 50-70k a month if we’re conservative with tiers. Not sure what Patreon takes but that’s a hell of a raise from what they must have been getting at GB. Obviously Nextlander is splitting theirs, but even then it must be an increase.
Not to mention it seems they all do far less actual work. Jeff does what? A 3hr podcast and a couple 3hr streams in addition to that? Writes some stuff here and there. I’m sure there’s other stuff happening off screen, but still.

That's a pity. Gerstmann and the Nextlander trio just aren't as good separate as they were together, and the Nextlander crew in particular seems to have lost more and more passion for games. (You can see the contrast with Brad's tech podcast where he's way more interested, and way more interesting). But given the money they're making, I can't blame them for continuing.

It's because they aren't all in the same room together. That's like 75% of the problem right there. And I just dont think the chemistry between the three of them is that good anyway. There's no one there challenging them on anything they talk about to get some actual interesting discussion going. It's the safest, most boring shit.

The youtube algorithms have once again led me down the rabbit hole of mid 2010's Giant Beastcast clips, like the various science quizzes and stuff.
Nostalgic but also sad that the GB I loved isn't there anymore.
I know we'll never find out but a part of me is very curious exactly what happened between the crew. The Nextlander and GB crew seem to be good with each other, often appearing on each others shows but all of them have seemingly completely cut-off Gerstmann. He hasn't been on any GB or Nextlander content since his departure.

Their podcast is terrible, like 2 to 3 minutes giving surface level thoughts on each topics. Who the fuck is paying for that.
At least Jeff actually has some insightful monologues on his podcast.

At the very least GB still gets a host of developers in their annual E3 equivalent coverage.
With Dan, they can probably pull some more wrestlers like the one time they pulled Austin Creed and Kenny Omega, but Gerstmann's industry ties like Tim Schaeffer etc are never gonna happen again.

Except it doesn’t, hence the site steadily crashing downhill and missing an identity for years. They got plenty of hate and hate mail whenever they veered into wrestling talk on the Bombcast back in the prime Dan days (2014-2015).

You need laughs mixed in with actual discussion. Like Sacred Symbols to me, while good talks, has zero humor. I know people think Chris is hilarious but he’s a total meh guy to me when it comes to the funny.
Bombcast pre Abby/Ben and GFW Radio are still the best overall for me. Idle Thumbs had its moments too.
