7.5
ENGAGING

http://ds.ign.com/articles/627/627770p1.html

7.0 Presentation
Weak single player, fantastic multiplayer. If you get it without having an army of DS friends at the ready, you may wind up disappointed.
7.0 Graphics
Hudson kept this one modest in looks, retaining the old-school look and feel. And it's appropriate, if just a little underwhelming in "ooh, neat" effects.
7.0 Sound
Happy, bippy music and cute vocals throughout the game. Nothing special, but nothing hindering, either.
7.5 Gameplay
The game isn't a whole lot of fun in singleplayer mode, but this everything is amplified when you hit the "multiplayer" button and battle against seven other human-controlled opponents. It gets crazy.
8.5 Lasting Appeal
As long as you've got a group of friends ready to go, this game will be one that will give you near-infinite replay. But single player? Eh.
7.5 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

"Bomberman has gone through several iterations since the debut of the Nintendo DS at E3 2004. The whole dual-screen, 2D/3D hybrid idea was scrapped early on in favor of offering a much more simplistic and classic Bomberman design for DS owners. The game was clearly developed for the multiplayer gamer in mind, because the single player option feels thrown together, with a balance that makes the mode just a little too easy to complete. The wireless multiplayer does make up for the weak-sauce solitaire option; the fantastic bomb-battle gameplay is completely retained in this design, only requiring a single cartridge for a group of eight local systems. Tons of options, settings, and arenas are available for the multiplayer fanatic. As a whole, the Bomberman package is a lot like a Whitman's Sampler: a heavy concentration of delicious caramel pieces, but you'll have to deal with a lot of the crappy coconut and orange crèmes."

does Hudson Soft (are they still called Hudson Soft) make any other games besides Bomberman? I know they were huge on the TG16.

They are part of Konami now, and they used to do the Mario Party games for Nintendo.

Soooooo much fun multiplayer.

Plus, single-cart-multi-play for 8 people = pwn.

OMG

Why aren' these being released in the US? I love Bonk's Adventure :(

Nothing beats 8 player wireless multiplayer with one cart. Well, maybe online play, but we'll get that later this year. :D Gonna have to pick this game up sometime this month.

Meteos comes out next week. Bomberman is awesome, but don't buy it unless you have friends to play multiplayer with. Man I wish it was online. :(

Single player is definitely weak sauce... My wife finished it in a few days time, and she is only a casual gamer. You cannot play the game over and over again like the NES version either. Your high score is not saved anywhere to compete with anyone. Very weak indeed.

The + point is that the single player resembles the NES version quite a bit, which brings back the memories...

Bombermans single-player mode is bashed with every single release in the series yet if they took it out the reviews would be even harsher. ~_~

Yep. This game is an absolute must own if you have friends that own DS systems as well. My wife and I have been loving this game since it arrived earlier this week.

From the horse's mouth, it's more like "BOMBERMAN!!" Yes, with the second "B" pronounced. You get to hear that from Bomberman's own piercingly high-pitched voice every time the game boots up.

These days their big franchises are...

-Bomberman
-Momotaru Denetsu
-Tengai Makyo (co-developed with Red Entertainment)
-Mario Party (co-developed with Nintendo)
-Bloody Roar (co-developed with Eighting)

This game really should've been delayed to include online.

Here's hoping for an online-enabled rerelease or sequel.

Inevitable.
