There's no evidence of any big floppy ears...

It does look like Fone Bone...

I posted the second link because for some strange reason there's a link to boneville.com on the Telltale site. :)

The limbs are too long for it to be Fone Bone though- unless they changed the character around (or maybe it's Smiley).

So what was the Samurai Jack getting canceled rumor about? The recent batch of new episodes were not conclusive to the series, nor was there any indication that there would be no more... they seem to have been advertising for the show a lot lately on the network.

Maybe Genndy got the network to try and drum up some support to see if the franchise is really dead or just forgotten. If people watch the series now and the ratings are good, maybe the final eps will be shown.

ordered. i've got high expectations for it...
since this forum has recommended so much great stuff before. :)

Wow, well I hope it doesn't disappoint you.

It's not a rumor. CN dropped their support of it. Those episodes were finished ages and ages ago and CN just sat on them for forever before cramming then in on a Saturday a couple weeks ago. The first of those four actually aired last December in the UK, so CN has been sitting on these for ages. They just aren't interested in the series. Here is an interview with Genndy where he talks about CN dropping Samurai Jack, about Clone Wars and about his upcoming Astro Boy movie. CN has basically expressed no interest in doing more with Samurai Jack, unfortunately. I hope they at least release the rest of the episodes on DVD.

They'd have to written and produced first... and Genndy's moved onto other things, like Clone Wars and making a CGI/live-action Astro Boy film. The show is pretty much dead. All we can hope for is a one-off film that wraps it up.

this book is pretty friggin' awesome so far

i love its sense of humor & the art is also great. There's a page where Rock Jaw goes to the farm and sniffs around that's just really really well "directed".

oh and the
Omen
is hilarious :D

:D Glad you enjoy it. Is this thread the first time you've heard of the series?

Yar, pretty much. I don't read Western comics [not that there's wrong with them, it just wasn't a part of my culture]

I'll definitely recommend this to all my friends who liked LotR. It's a very cinematic and comparable comic series.

Cool.

I should notify Jeff how many people this thread has influenced to buy the OVE. :lol

Finished it last night.

Things I really liked
Roque Ja's cat personality
Tarsil's death. Loved that sequence.
The foreshadowing
The Red Dragon's design.

Things I didn't like
I know it's like 1000+ pages, it still felt kind of short..
If you think about it, none of the Bones are dynamic. Sure, they went through a lot, but it still doesn't seem they have grown at all. It's probably intentional, since the ending enforces this idea so much - but it still seems strange for such a character-driven story.

Overall, how would you rate it?

Tarsil's death surprised the hell out of me. Not sure what to say about the ending though. I think the story was about getting to know the characters rather than watching them go through a drastic change. Not sure if there was a message Jeff was trying to get across there. I might ask him about it and see if he'll respond, since there are hidden meanings in the book anyway.

I would rate it very highly. It deserves the praise that people give it.

I think it manages to do a lot of things at the same time - cinematic, grand, personal, cute, humorous, exciting... while having some really good artistic choices. I also enjoy how it's also bursting with messages (ideas?).

Well I'm glad we all could sway you towards buying it and that you enjoyed it.

Telltale Games has announced that it will produce a PC-based videogame on Jeff SmithÂ’s Bone, a move which will raise the profile of the property again, following the recent release of ScholasticÂ’s first volume of the collected Bone under itÂ’s Graphix imprint.

According to Telltale, the game will start off in the first pages of SmithÂ’s epic. The gaming companyÂ’s announcement reads:

Lost in the desert and dying of thirst, the Bone cousins are separated by an angry swarm of locusts. Now Fone Bone, armed only with a mysterious map and his well-loved copy of Moby Dick, searches a strange valley to try and find his lost relatives. Along the way he will come face to face with its unusual denizens and begin to be drawn into the greater intrigues that surround the valley.

Telltale Games brings you all the humor, charm and mystery of Jeff Smith's acclaimed comic book series Bone. Fans of the comic and adventure gamers alike will find a new home in the valley, as they explore familiar locations and interact with its residents in this character driven adventure.

"Detailed rich characters and incredibly immersive story telling are everything to us," said Telltale's CEO Dan Connors in a press release. "We are proud that Jeff Smith and Cartoon Books have decided that we are the best partners to bring Bone to life in a series of PC games. The Bone world has so much texture and depth and combines a unique blend of superb adventure, mystery and humor – it is a great first license for Telltale."

"We are very impressed with the work the Telltale team has done in the past. WeÂ’re confident they can bring the fun and adventure of the Bone story to life. Bone has been a big hit with comic book lovers everywhere and reaching the PC market will allow even more people to boldly go where no Bone has gone before." commented Cartoon Books' publisher, Vijaya Iyer in the same release.

No release date for the game is given.

Today Jeff was at a book signing about 3 miles from my house. So I went down there to have him sign my One Volume Edition (they told us that we were supposed to buy something else, so I got the colored version of Out of Boneville for my sister).

He said that since November, since this Scholastic deal, that he's been getting movie offers from different studios, and that he's talked with Pixar a few times (formally, it sounded like). Interesting. :)

check out boneville.com. Ya live in the middle of nowhere or something?

It was so cool. He drew Fone Bone on the title page of my OVE copy (as well as everyone else's books). RAWK!

I didn't know there'd be Q and A, just signing. We got there 40 minutes late because the place was damn near impossible to find (plus we didn't leave the house until the thing began anyway).

>>>I ordered the hardcover version so mine won't be shipped till November. <<<

They're making more hardcovers? Are they just leaving out the signed/numbered book plate on the first page, or is it different in some over way?

Pixar making Bone would really sweet, but again, it couldn't be done in one movie. A trilogy maybe? That'd be intense, and Pixar would be dedicating a good majority of their resources to pumping three out in a timely fashion, and likely without any other films in there. I'm not aware of any significant expansions at Pixar, so one film a year is pretty much maximum capacity. Not sure Pixar/Jobs would want to dedicate three years to basically one project. Maybe one film every other year, giving them the opportunity to do other movies at the same time, perhaps so as not to alienate or lose the totally family friendly market.

Hmm, that'd be exciting though. Risky on a few levels, but exciting too.

I have the original comics from way back when. Definitely one of, if not the favorite series of mine. They also did a Bone trading card set as well. I don't remember how many boxes I bought (but it was at least a couple). I ended up getting a Jeff Smith autographed card (1 of 500) out of one.

But back to the series itself...one of the best for sure and worth every penny.

AWE YEA-UH!

*twists arms up like some fucking retard*

Jesus shit, Bone may be the greatest comic in the world - but working a comic shop back when it was fairly popular, in a town desperate for fucking recognition - I came to hate it.

All the hoodrats and wanna-be's would come in - see two dopey white cartoon characters on the cover, and ask if it was about Bone. The You Got Served for Staying in Cleveland, dumbass - rappers.

DOES IT LOOK LIKE IT'S ABOUT PEOPLE RAPPING ABOUT A WELFARE CHECK?

Would you like a fist quiche?!

It's good to see Bone is still doing relatively well, while Bone has since disbanded and it's fragments are desperately seeking representation and support from Cleveland's sorry bitch ass "hip-hop community".

On second thought, can I just buy a couple of tactical nukes off of eBay? =_=

I think the way he worded it, it sounded like Pixar contacted him. I asked him about the video game, and I guess Telltale wanted to do Bone and contacted him as well.

I think back during the deal with Nickelodeon (probably mentioned in this thread), it was going to be a trilogy, the first ending with the Great Cow Race.

Just finished the One Volume Ed. and all i can say is WOW. I enjoyed it from start to finish, although it got pretty heavy at the end.

The whole world would be a better place if more people would read Bone. One of my fav's of all time

The author of Bone is making an appearance at Chicago Comics sometime this month. I don't think it has passed yet (I hope not anyway). I lost the little flyer I had, unfortunately.

According to the Bone site, that appearance was on the 21st, and his other two Chicago appearances were the following two days. That's all he's got scheduled, thus far, for the US besides a couple conventions in the summer, and then a couple appearances in other countries.

Maybe it's because I'm a total Pixar bitch, but after reading the preview they have on Amazon.com, and reading about the movie, Pixar was the first studio that popped into my mind to do it. And if they make it, you KNOW it will be perfect, because it's fucking PIXAR. I dismissed the idea at first because I thought it'd e better as 2D, but you never know. Plus, Pixar has said that if they have a story that would work better in 2D, then they'll make it in 2D.

I'm gonna order this as soon as I cash my check this afternoon. :D

Just got the One Volume Edition yesterday, started reading it thismorning. I'm in Book Three, Chapter Three (Road Trip). This is good. This is REALLY good. I haven't laughed out loud this much reading a comic in a long, LONG time.

If Pixar does make this into a movie, they'd have to do it in 2D. There are just so many classic, traditional-animation moments in it. (Things like eyes bugging out, jaws dropping, etc). It could work in 3D, I suppose, since it's Pixar we're talking about, but I think it's much better suited to be 2D. I hope Pixar gets it and puts those animation tables they bought from Disney to good use. :)

It was on the first page, but check this out: http://geocities.com/SoHo/4643/flipbook.html

Yeah, I saw that, but for some reason FireFox can't download whatever's needed to play it.

SO I opened it in IE and DAMN. That looks awesome! It totaly rips off the movements of a car chase I've had in my head for years, :lol but it's exactly as fluid and lively as I'd hope the Bone movie ends up.

By the way, have you finished it yet?

I finished it just a little bit ago. That was truely fantastic...really really good story, and the ending didn't let me down like another epic series recently did.... (Dark Tower)
